Want the Sleeve, NIH suggests DS - Help!
vanessak8 replied to Smye's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My starting BMI was 58...5'6" at 360 lbs. I had the sleeve 7/14. I have lost as of today 134 lbs. My current BMI is .... 36.3. If you want the sleeve it can work for you. As the previous poster wrote you have to be willing to put the work in. I stay on plan and I exercise. The surgery will only help you so much and then it all you. That is true of every weight loss surgery type. Do not do any of it if you are not committed to a life style change because in the end that is what will make you the most successful. Good luck on your journey!! I would not qualify for the sleeve today because I wouldn't meet the criteria. That is a wonderful feeling. -

Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery
vanessak8 replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went Ice skating with my boys... A major calorie burn and it doesn't make my foot or my hip hurt. It's a win win!! I have not worked with a personal trainer but I watch them a lot at the gym I go to. There is not a lot of assistance from them when their clients are doing CV work. When I got piriformis syndrome when I was pregnant the PT said it was from squatting. It started after I was cleaning, painting and preparing a nursery. That muscle is a short pear shaped muscle that sits deep in your hip joint. It's the swelling and spasming that irritates your sciatic nerve and if your one of the unlucky few that the sciatic nerve runs through the muscle instead of under the muscle...ouch. This time it started after the planter fasciitis, which I'm sure did nothing to help my form when I was running. I have started a generalized stretching routine because I am not flexible at all... Been doing that for a few weeks and can already tell such a big difference. -
You can google this... It's hormonal and metabolic. With as little as a 10% weight change you have hormonal changes that will make you colder. It does get better they say.

Why are you eating such a limited amount of things....variety is the spice of life. Isn't the monotony of a diet why we always fail... Stop dieting and find a way if eating that can be a life long lifestyle change for you. Why no eating out? I amJust a little over six months out and I eat out. I just make good food choices. I have lost 133 pounds as of this morning. I have not felt deprived one single day since I started eating regular foods post op except I do often buy donuts on Sunday mornings for my boys and I have not had one since I had surgery. Having said that I am usually ok with that. You need to stop acting like you are in a diet and find a happy medium that you can live with and succeed. Good luck. One of the youtubers I watch made what I think is a very profound statement... I did not do this so I couldn't eat. She has also lost more than 100lbs and has been at her goal weight for a few months. -

I have had piriformis syndrome twice in my life once while it was pregnant and now. It sucks, but I find the stretching exercises help a lot. I also sit on a frozen water bottle on my way to work to deeply massage that muscle. I have to add that I also have plantar fasciitis on that same side. Stretch, stretch and more stretching. I know it's from doing interval training on the treadmill but I refuse to stop. I have cut back some and use the elliptical sometimes which puts less stress on those areas. I am just a little over 6 months out from surgery. I started at 360 and currently weigh 226. I am not going to let this derail me. Exercising for me is one if those habits that is easy come and easy go. -

Totally forgot about EMLA, which is ironic since we use it all the time in the NICU on babies. Anyway, I would still talk to both your surgeon and anesthesia prior to surgery.
-
I am a nurse and they can numb you for an IV start, but they do that with a needle albeit much smaller than the IV will be.. You could ask them to give you anti anxiety med before they do the procedures. My best advice is discuss with your surgeon. Also, you will meet anesthesia prior to your surgery talk to them also... They do not want you to act a fool so they will more than likely give you something, but they won't know unless you tell them.

How did your weight loss affect your marriage/relationship?
vanessak8 replied to majorsmama's topic in The Gals' Room
My husband met me thin and loved me fat... However in all fairness, I was checked out. I worked and I did the things necessary to keep things in order at home, but I was unhappy and tired all the time. I never wanted to leave the house because I hated to get dressed and it made me down right angry at everyone!!! Yet, he loved me inspire of all that. He never made me feel bad and as a matter of fact he often told me how beautiful he still thought I was. Now 122 pounds less I'm happier and I know that impacts him in a positive way, but since he never uttered a negative thing before it's hard to tell.... So I asked him. He said its hard not to notice the physical and emotional changes and then he said to me I didn't realize how much I missed wrapping you up in my arms... Like all the way around you. ❤️❤️❤️I am sure that I am married to the most wonderful person in the world. We have been married 18 years. -

238--- I'm not going to make my goal, but I will get close and it was a lofty goal. My six month surgiversary is jan 14.... I'm only 24 lbs away from losing 100lbs since surgery and would be down a total of 146 since the start if my journey which was feb 6, 2014. Mind blowing to be so close. Keep my fingers crossed and my hands away from the holiday goodies

vanessak8 replied to deftonestiffany's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had nausea right after surgery and I after I went home about 4 days after surgery I woke up out of the blue because I was nauseated. I took a zofran and I have experienced none since. -

I think they do that because our hair is important to us and our protein intake is important to them because it's important to you overall health and recovery. It's vital to everything we do and what better way to keep people on track... Tell them their hair will fall out if they don't. The problem is that it usually does anyway and then people are like what the h$&&!! It makes you think you are doing something wrong.
