Can't tolerate artificial sweetners
Kissifur replied to Cody's mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dumping Syndrome – Few people who have vertical sleeve gastrectomy experience "dumping syndrome" after eating sweet, sugary, or fatty foods. Symptoms of dumping syndrome include gas, cramping, diarrhea, and sweating. Usually sugars are digested slowly in the stomach and are passed into the small intestine. Because your stomach is bypassed the sugars are instead being flushed rapidly into the small intestine, causing the symptoms of dumping syndrome. Although dumping syndrome is unpleasant, it is not dangerous and usually goes away in about one hour. For me dumping is limited to rapid heart beat only. http://www.mmc.org/mmc_bariatric.cfm?id=8741 -
Can't tolerate artificial sweetners
Kissifur replied to Cody's mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes and it causes dumping in some people. Personally I use sugar just a lot less and avoid artificial sugars. Why get healthy to put that crap in your body. -
I am very lucky. My mom has been supportive since I first told her I was considering having surgery. Now after she tells me how pretty I am almost every time she sees me.

How much calcium were you told to take?
Kissifur replied to fezik23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1500 mg through out the day. I take 3/ 500 mg chewables about 2 hours a part. -
sleeve doesn't mind sugar- oy!
Kissifur replied to tiredmama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My sleeve can handle sugar as well. Although I don't have large amounts at once. Small amounts just slide right on down. The only thing that helps is that I don't crave it anymore. -
That's a good idea to try and make their favorite snacks homemade. You should have them help you that might make the transition even smoother. I hate cooking/baking so that would never work for me By punishment I meant how they may perceive it if their favorite foods are just snatched away, mommy is on a diet so I can't have my favorite foods. There is the occasional push back from my husband and kids because there are things I refuse to buy or make

I have four kids as well 18, 15, 5 (twins) all boys. I made small changes over time and I didn't make them feel like it was a punishment and they are handling it really good. I also had remember that I had the surgery not them so I still by them things they like just not as much. I no longer buy soda and they don't even notice.

Why are we overweight, anyway?
Kissifur replied to BarnGirlWK's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me it was poor eating habits, lack of exercise and pregnancies. My last one really did me in, twins that weighed 6'14 and 7'3 my body has never been the same. The sleeve has not reinvented the wheel it just helps me to do what I should have done on my own, eat less, no junk foods and exercise. It was hard for me to accept but I have no one to blame for my condition but myself. -
I saw that online as well but it seemed to be more her saying she was doing fine and not giving any details. Hopefully she is.

What do you consider a bad day? How did you give in to sweets?

I had a spoonful of butter pecan ice cream today. It was actually underwhelming. Ice cream has never really been an issue for me so I don't see it becoming a regular thing.

11 days postop, not feelin so hot
Kissifur replied to tangerinetrees's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes there is. I'm two months out and I am back to normal. I have no pain and I can handle any and all foods I have tried. But for the fact that I can only eat very small amounts of food I would probably forget I had the sleeve. Hang in there we have all been where you are and it gets better every day. You got this! -
I found that the early stages (clear liquid and liquid) were the hardest. There were two times that I had an actual melt down with tears flying everywhere because I wanted to eat. However once I moved to soft foods I realized it was all in my head. My taste had changed so much and I didn't have an appetite so the idea of eating was more appealing than the act itself. For me the emotional part came and went really quick maybe over 2 weeks at the most. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Need Comebacks For "easy Way Out" Crack
Kissifur replied to gmanbat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
In a day and age when everything is designed to make our lives easier (cars, microwaves, modern medicine) why is it that only WLS is frowned upon. For me it has been easy. I failed miserably at past attempts mainly because I could give up when things got to be too hard. Where as the sleeve makes it harder to give up. I haven't heard this yet but my comeback is going to be "What's your point?" -
I agree with your husband. They talk about you now right? However you handle it now continue what you are doing. The only difference is you are taking control of your health. Girl give them something to talk about.
-
I have to agree with you. I have decided that if I want something I'm going to just have it in smaller amounts and avoid fat free, low fat and diet foods. They are not any healthier just offer less calories and often are less healthy. I came to this conclusion after comparing the ingredients in mayonnaise with light mayonnaise.

Thank you for the visual. I have found my long lose twin!
-
I agree it is nice to dream. Keep up the good work!

Hey that can be a last meal man why didn't I think of it lol fortunately or unfortunately my doctor didn't require any special diet prior. Although I managed to lose a little over 20 lbs leading up to surgery.

I am currently looking for a personal trainer. I read a post from someone who choose not to tell their trainer they had WLS. While, others do not mention if they told or not. So did you tell? Why or why not? Is there or should there be a difference in how the trainer handles the workout?
-
I meet with a trainer tomorrow. She has worked with "obese" people before which was important for me. Thank you to everyone for responding. Now wish me luck.
-
Because WL patients lose weight at a much faster pace than someone who has not had WLS. I was interested in knowing if that played a part in how often or how hard others worked with their trainer.
-
Thank you for the response. I have no problem telling . I hadn't given it much thought until I saw that someone didn't tell and it made me curious because most people who post about having a trainer don't mention it at all. So I'm hoping someone who is working with a trainer can shed light on it for me.

I have no reason why you did it other than what was previously mentioned, you are human and made a mistake. I know about that all to well. I recently went to my favorite Chinese restaurant and order their lemonade, which is the bomb(I know I shouldn't of had it). After I took a few sips it washes over me that I can't eat for 30 minutes. Needless to say that was a total screw up on my part. I have learned how much I don't pay attention while out. So I know that's an area I have to pay close attention to. I have decided that if I have only 100 days that I mess up on for the rest of my life I will be happy I am no longer going to feel guilt or shame when it comes to food. What did you learn?
