I'm in the same boat as @@friejenn -- last NUT Aug 27 and estimated DoS Sept. 10. But I think it will probably end up being later Sept. due to the time it takes for ins approval. @@Ms. Nika I am in MD! Where are you in VA? I grew up in Richmond.

Steph, I don't get my surgery date until after everything has been approved by insurance. It's just how my surgeon's office does it. Thanks for all your responses. It helps!

So, with the reduced calorie intake, is it exhausting to work out post-op? I don't mean like 6 weeks out, but more like a year out or more, after you've lost all the weight. Not having a big calorie intake for energy and not being able to slug down Water worries me. Part of the reason I want to do this is to gain the ability to exercise more easily (not hauling around all this body weight) and with less risk of injury to my joints. It would bum me out to learn I couldn't do serious exercise anymore.

Oooh! That's great! How long did it take you to build up your water-gulp tolerance? Does it stretch the sleeve?

I STILL don't know how long it's going to be for me, and the waiting is killing me. I had my first mtg. on May 2. I have since collected all the documentation I need and visited all the docs I need except for psych (even had my endoscopy already). Psych eval is June 11. I start NUT counseling on May 28. SO! With my insurance, I can't even submit until the end of August. Then they have to approve and schedule the date. Earliest possible for me, I'm guessing, is mid-Sept. That'd be a total timeline of 4.5 months from the first visit, and that's a best-case situation. I'm thinking it'll be more like mid-October. But I wish I knew for sure! I hate all this waiting. Congrats on making your first appointment! Hang out on this site a lot if you're nervous -- it helps!

I start my 90 day physician-supervised diet that is required for insurance next week. Right now my BMI is around 41 or 42. What if I lose enough to drop below a BMI of 40? With no other co-morbidities, will I not be approved? Has anyone had this happen?

I am expecting to get my sleeve done in Oct or Nov. I haven't even started my 90 day nutrition yet (there's a group session at the end of this month that will start my 90 day clock), so I'm thinking late Sept. at the very earliest. I'm in the process now of gathering the documentation to send to insurance. I have an appointment with my primary care doc today to get a recommendation from him. Anyone else with me for fall? It seems like most posters here are Spring/Summer sleevers.

Best case scenario for me is mid-September, but I'm thinking it'll be more like early to mid October. Can't wait. Just got my endoscopy done yesterday. Now all that's left is the psych eval and my 90 days of nutrition and I'll be ready to submit to insurance! I can't believe a lot of you already got your dates! Congrats!

I know it will vary, just looking for a sampling of answers. How long was it between the time that you submitted to insurance (before approval) to when you had surgery? My understanding is that it can be anything from 2 weeks to several months. Just looking for some real-life time frames. Thanks!

I think right now I'm just going to tell my parents and my husband. People are so judgey and I don't want to hear it. I think post-op if they ask questions, I will just say that I am following a calorie restrictive diet and working with a doctor. Who are you telling? Did anyone react badly? Better than you expected? I worry that it won't be a keep-able secret for long...

I'm planning to keep it pretty quiet -- just my husband and my parents. I agree that lying feels wrong to me, so I'm just not going to lie. If someone asks me, "Did you have bariatric surgery?" I'll say that I did. But I can't imagine that would be anyone's first guess. So if they ask what I'm doing, I'm going to tell the truth, which is that I am working with a doctor and restricting my caloric intake pretty significantly. All truth, without inviting the peanut gallery to judge me.

I'm also curious about this. I now have a 19 month old who will probably be turning 2 right around my surgery date. She's old enough to talk and understand me (which is a major help) but she'll be about 30 lbs by then and several weeks without lifting my baby girl will be tough. To the original poster, I broke my arm when my daughter was 12 mos and I couldn't lift her for a couple of weeks. I had help from my husband and mom, and I also found work-arounds. If your child can crawl and do a little climbing, that will ease your work a lot. You'll figure it out. A good friend of mine had a gastric bypass when her daughter was 3 (this was 5 years ago or so). She says now that her daughter doesn't ever remember having a fat mom, and she feels good about teaching her healthy eating. It's worth it! The thought of teaching my child how to be fat and the thought of embarrassing her when she's older just kills me. This is the right thing.
