November 1st Bandsters -- Can you believe it's been a week already?
Mom of Chuy replied to Longhorn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
By the way, my doctor was trying to clean up the tape a little for me. He suggested to remove it with nail polish remover with acetone. I tried it last night and it works great. Another thing, I am pretty bruised up and he said that the meds they use during surgery causes bruising. Never knew that one. -
I did throw most of my clothes out before surgery. I am staying positive about the loss. I spoke to the support group last month about the swap, we may start it soon, we will talk about it tonight.

I went to the docs yesterday for my first check up. He took the steri-strips off and told me to wash with Lever 2000. He said I could introduce other things now such as cottage cheese, cauliflower mashed potato stuff, etc. I am back at work and feeling great! I just need to start drinking more water, I can't get the hang of that. All in all, life is good! -

Now, this is not fair!!! Y'all are hurting my port site, I was just banded on the first and I will now never forgive you. I am LOL too hard and I think my stitches are going to pop and I will have to see my doctor tomorrow . . . -
GasX Strips - Kept them with me for a couple of days, I love them, worked really, really fast! No more gas for me!
-
It is now Sunday, three days after surgery - I woke up feeling great! I think my gas is gone, can you believe that? I slept in bed all night. I did keep a heating pad on my left side where the port is and that helped the only pain I have left. The only thing is I don't think I am drinking enough water, I need to get on the ball today. I get hungry a little but just eat a little SF pudding or SF jello and the hunger goes away. I am sooooooo happy I got through it so good. I hope everyone upcoming does as well as I.

Forestcat, Glad you are feeling good with no major problems. I too had my surgery on the first. I was the last one for the day and the only person that did not have a hernia repaired. What a hoot, huh? Good luck in your recovery! Bobbi

You should wait at least 1 hour after a meal before drinking is because it will essentially flush all of the food through the band. This defeats the whole purpose of the band, which is to restrict your intake and make you full on less food. If you've flushed the food through your band, you're going to get hungry sooner than you should. I just got my band Thursday so I don't know the answer to your other question.

Well I like parrots- my parrots talk to me. Do your pets talk to you? -
Hi, I have been extra sleepy today and a little more gas than yesterday. I have found that I have to have those GasX strips around me all the time. As soon as I get a gas pain (mostly in my chest) if I take a strip it goes away fast.

Glad you sound like your doing well Lizzie. I thought about going to a bird show today and walk around a bit but it is clear across town (Pasadena TX) but the pickup truck ride there didn't sound all too keen. Well congratulations on your speedy recovery.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Damn, I just got my picture taken for my license in September. Maybe after I loose the weight I can go down there and tell them I lost mine so they will have to take a new picture. LOL

I see your point now, I guess if I was keeping it a secret from most of them it would be hard. I am keeping it a secret from a lot of people but my family knows. And yes, I will be eating a little by Thanksgiving. Maybe you could just put food on your dish and move it around a little and talk a lot. Move yourself around the room a lot too and toss the food when no one is looking. I don't know your situation but you will figure it out because you know how good you will feel after you start dropping that weight.

I feel the same as Nessa. Even in the past, I would always start a diet right before Halloween or Thanksgiving so I wouldn't pig out.

Thank you Nessa and a speedy recovery to you too. Bobbi

My surgery was yesterday, Nov 1, and went well. I am finally awake enough to do this. I didn't get home until 6:30 last night. There were three or four people before me and I was the last person. Everyone else but me had a hernia repair. I guess that's more common than I knew. I have very little pain and it is just at the port side. Very little gas which I have taken the GasX strips for, no gas in my arm. I too got a heprin shot in the belly before they took me to the operating room where I got my margarita. After it was over they put me in front of a xray machine and gave me a little cup with barium (not bad at all) told me to drink it all and we both watched it go through my new buddy (band). Went to the pharmacy on the way home and my DH went in to take care of that. The pain medicine kept me pretty sleepy last night. I haven't taken any today, don't need it. They also gave me supositories in case I get nauseated which hasn't happened yet and I don't expect it. I called the doc and set up my next appointment for Nov. 7. I had half a cup of coffee this morning and since then I have been drinking Water and chicken broth. The doctor said I can graduate to jellow, pudding, etc. tomorrow. I get to take a shower tomorrow too, that's when I will really feel like a human again. I think that covers it, if I think of anything else I will report again. Hope Elizabeth did well today and anyone else I missed. Please excuse if I forgot, my mind is still a little foggy. Bobbi

Good luck Longhorn - I am at 11:00 a.m. I too will try and post tomorrow when I get home. Good luck to everyone Thursday and Friday this week!

Thanks for all your prayers! I am going out today to get final stuff. I am more excited than the nervous I expected. We will see tomorrow morning how nervous I really am.

Had my first appointment with Dr. Collier yesterday and today I set the date for November 1. Still have to go get lab work and final approval from my primary doctor (hope she goes for it with me). I guess I will go out and buy a Magic Bullet soon. I hope I'm not moving too fast but was afraid I would change my mind. I am excited but nervous too! What I'm afraid of most is not chewing enough. Hope to meet other November people here.

I am worried about a headache on the morning of surgery - no coffee!!!!!!!!!! I should have scheduled the surgery earlier, I could have but didn't want to get in early morning traffic. I actually have had a stomach ache all day, I guess from nerves.
