How the heck do you keep your carbs under 50 when a banana is 30 carbs?!
MistyAnnMoon829 replied to kclaws's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Beans? They have a lot of protein. There are quite a few soy-based products out there as well that are very good for high protein/low carbs (sadly, I'm soy intolerant, so need to stick with meat as much as possible). Do you like eggs and egg beaters? That's good protein as well (I'm assuming you're looking for sources of protein other than meat?) My NUT said that soy is a biiiiiiig nono and it isn't really good for you. She encouraged me to drop dairy milk and pick up almond milk, when I mentioned soy she laid it on thick to avoid it like the plague... -
Anyone getting sleeved in July or August? Looking for buddies!

I don't mind at all, if I can't talk about it with my fellow VSGers who can I?! It is a parasite/bacteria that lives in your upper GI (if you have them). It can cause ulcers and in severe cases stomach cancer. About 20% of americans under 40 have it, and the percentage is higher for those over 60. I think that was what I read. You can get it from food or Water. It's pretty common, they check for it when they do your labs. Most people live with it for years and never even have a symptom! It's treated with 14 days of 3 different types of anti biotics and then is checked with an endoscopy, or a breath test since it takes so long for the trace of it to leave your blood. I didn't even have any symptoms and no idea where it came from. I just hope that the pills kill it because I hate taking them and feeling sick for 2 hours after. Sounds like everything is moving along smoothly for you!! I was really nervous about talking with a NUT but she was really nice and informative and gave me a lot of alternate foods to eat that I already love. I bet you are easily going to have your surg in July!! If i'm lucky me too, or early August, even though my birthday is in August so I may not be recovered enough to eat anything at all! -

Just got the call today from my surg's office and they have a consult appt open for tomorrow at 12:30 rather than me having to wait until June 12. I barely let her finish the sentence before I said yes! I am so excited. After this I should be about 80% there towards making my surg date! Well my appt was great! The only drawback was I have H. Pylori in my upper GI so fun stuff. On anti-biotics for 2 weeks (they make me feel like vomiting) then an endoscopy to make sure it is all murdered and gone, then finally I should be able to get my surg date on July 9th. My surg and his entire staff were wonderful! I have a take home machine that is a precursor test for sleep apnea, it will determine if I actually need to go in for a sleep study or not, I'm really hoping not, I woke up a lot last night to go potty and I started to worry that that wouldn't look good, but then I realize that it is just testing whether or not i'm breathing. I'm a bit of a worrier, but at the same time I can talk myself down! Where is everyone else at in this process? Any other H. Pylori sufferers out there? -

Everyday feels like it takes forever as I count down the days to my first appt (June 12). I keep hoping I'll get the call that says they have an earlier opening. Once I decide to do something and then I have to wait I go crazy!!

Hello! I have my first consult on June 12, and with my surgeon on the whole it takes about 2 months (it did with my co-worker anyway) so I'm looking at an August date, maybe Sept. I'm 27yo, 5'8", and 277 lbs. If anything, keep us all updated on how it goes for you!! -
Great job, you look amazing!

Oh man, this is the post that never ends!! I thought I wasn't going to find anything from this year. Hello! My name is Misty, I'm 27. I'm waiting very (IM)patiently for my first consult appt on June 12, and lurking throughout the forums. I fall under the category of B in LGBT, but have been exclusively in (2 seperate) long term relationships with women. I married my last gf in 2009 (kind of seperated now, boo) and have sort of fallen out of the community. I look forward to getting to know my family here on BP. -
Holy...You look AMAZING!!!! I'm a little in love, I can't even lie. Nice job!! I think this will be my gift to myself when I hit 100 down too! (still pre-op, sad day) This was a great idea, it will be super good motivation to keep it off. Well done, super model.

I come from a fat family, on my moms side, and my dads side was always slimmer including my younger sisters, so when we would go to things with my dads family I always felt awkward and ugly even though I am beautiful (in the face, lol). I've always been bigger and I finally hit 300 and I looked terrible. I managed to lose 30 lbs and then gained back 10 and I hate the way I look. I watched my mom lose almost 100 lbs the natural way and she looks amazing! I have been looking at this surgery for years and finally decided that since 2014 has been such a tough year for me in my marriage that I was going to do something completely for me to feel better about my life and my health. I'm tired of being the fat daughter, and the fat sister and I have such a bad history of health in my family, I want to live for a really long time and live well.

I wanted to say that I am stalkerishly following this board. I plan to do the same type of thing when I get my surgery date, so I wanted to thank you for doing it too! It is super helpful to see what it's like for other people in almost realtime! Don't stop now!! You're doing amazing! -
Body Dysmorphic Disorder. An individual with BDD has perpetual negative thoughts about their appearance; in the majority of cases, an individual suffering from BDD is obsessed with a minor or imagined flaw. Afflicted individuals think they have a defect in either one or several features of their body, which causes psychological and clinically significant distress or impairs occupational or social functioning. BDD often co-occurs with depression, anxiety, social withdrawal, and social isolation. Per Wikipedia, lol. I think we all have this to a certain extent.
