The yo-yo effect?
I will what I want replied to ngoycoanaya@gmail.com's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had a 3.5 week stall and it finally broke a couple of days ago. I'm almost 4 months out. I only weigh myself about every month so I miss the details of most stalls (and I don't go crazy) but it was so upsetting to get on the scale after almost a month and have it be the same. Anyway, I kept to my plan and it's over now. I did notice that I was still looking smaller and my clothes were getting looser, scale just didn't budge. So frustrating! I'm just so glad I didn't freak out and throw in the towel and go back to poor eating (like I would have with a "diet"). -
You are lucky! Count your blessings. I've had quite a few challenges and the last few months have been hard. Enjoy your luck!

tired all the time
I will what I want replied to clasnic1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be 6 weeks tomorrow and I'm also exhausted. Also irritable and emotional. This is a big surgery and change. I'm trying - with different degrees of success - being patient with myself. Thanks for the thread - It's good to know I'm not the only tired one! -
Sleep Apnea c-pap/bi-pap
I will what I want replied to tleg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a cpap and I have had to lower the pressure several times since surgery. I wake up with a hurting stomach from air in my stomach. My settings started really high...ipap 19 and epap 16. I've lost 20 pounds since the pre-surgery liquid phase. My settings are now around 17/14. My advice is to pay attention and adjust your settings as needed. Good luck. -
Yes, this is happening to me. I have gone to MD twice and everything appears normal. I was told it could last as long as 6 weeks. Annoying and frustrating. In my mind, I would be out climbing a monta in at 4 weeks out. The reality is we r still in recovery and to be kind and patient with ourselves. -Shellie

One month and still have incisional pain
I will what I want replied to sweethime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same thing is happening for me. I'm super frustrated. I've spent the last month pretty much on my back in bed because the pain is awful. Have been to the doctor twice and he says it's all normal and fine. I'm completely regretting this surgery right now. My weight loss has been slow even though my calories are low etc. :-(. Doesn't seem worth it at all right now. Hopefully later it will. Today, not so much. -
I love to sew and I always sew for everyone else because I've felt so....(insert pejorative here). MI'm thinking that during my recovery from WLS I could pass some time making some beautiful clothes for myself. I've got patterns...I've got designer fabric....and I have no idea what size. So I thought I would ask the members here their experience with sizes. MI am 5' 10" and the last time I was not overweight at 170 pounds I wore a 12. That was a long time ago...in the meantime I've had twins (twins!) and I'm older and sizing has changed. I can make unstructured items in stretchy fabrics and I can alter if I need to...just trying to figure out a jumping off size. Any thoughts?

Hi all. How kind that you all asked. My surgery was 3.5 weeks ago and unfortunately I'm having a lot of pain and can't sit upright to sew. It is super annoying. I've got some patterns prepped...My problem is that I'm not sure I want to actually cut anything out until I'm further along in my weight loss. I am a perfectionist about sewing - even when I try not to be - so it would be like me to put in a bunch of hours on something and then have it not fit...since I won't be able to do a proper fitting for a long time. I DO have some amazing Missoni knit that I can make into a long cardigan though. Just need to get on the other side of this incision pain......best to all!

Food melt down
I will what I want replied to estrob85's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I haven't had any food break -downs, Per se. I do cry a couple of times a day though. It feels like hormones to me...I hope it passes soon because I burst into tears suddenly. Then it's over and I move on. I read that it's the hormone release from the quick weight loss. Thoughts? -
How are you all doing?

Can't tolerate Protein Shakes post op
I will what I want replied to caitiebrady's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a post here and every time I post it words get changed and deleted. It is really really weird. In short, I use Isopure when I feel like I can't get anything else down. I get the 7.5 bottles which have 15 grams of Protein. Get it really cold and that helps the flavor too. Good luck. I'm sure others will have ideas as well. :-) -
I feel you CGJ - it's totally unfair that you/me/us can't eat whatever we want. It really is and I protest with you!!!! I say rant away - get it all out - and then go do something that makes you feel good. How about spending some of that money you aren't spending on food on massages/clothes/manis? Whatever it is that makes you feel valued and taken care of. Also, I want to point out how generous you are with your sons and Ex. It takes a woman of character, love, and generosity to continue to invite an ex into to her life for the benefit of her sons. I celebrate that woman! Please do the same. Much love, Shellie

My Nut said it was from being in Ketosis. (Burning stored fat for fuel). And that it would likely go away in maintenance.

2 weeks out and I can eat far more than I should
I will what I want replied to youkmonster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can eat like that too. I'm not worried though. Compare that amount to pre-surgery amounts. You'll be fine. -
2 days before sugery and feeling conflicted
I will what I want replied to Idahospud's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
actually, taking it moment to moment is brilliant. When you feel better you can look at the big picture. For now, healing from surgery is job #1. Take care. All my best to you! -
Purchasing Insurance this November via ObamaCare... Need Recommendations!

I would call and talk to the bariatric coordinator at El Camino hospital - that's where Pamf does it's WLS. She probably knows the best plans. I just had my VGS done by one of their best - no complaints. Pm me if you want more details. -
I keep having these moments of have you lost your mind? Surgery 18 hours away.
I will what I want replied to LisaCO's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was a train wreak. Took an ambien the night before and still couldn't sleep so got up and cleaned the house in slow-motion. The next morning waiting for the procedure I really wanted to leave. I'd had surgery before in situations when I had no choice. Back surgery and a c-section. This felt so different in that I didn't have to do it. I could continue living - a crappy life - but I could. In the end my sister said the most simple and beautiful thing, "You need your power back." She's right, I've given up so much being overweight and unhealthy. What will you get back? Hang onto that as you prepare for surgery. Keep the biggest possible picture in mind. I had a rough start with a couple of random - not gonna happen to you - complications and even with that it was all okay. I'm only a week post-op so I don't want to come across as a vet when I'm not. Just trying to let you know your feelings are normal and show you have the good sense to be worried. Chances are very very slim that you will have complications - and even if you do you and your medical team will get you through them. Is someone with you to keep you from dwelling? Hope this helps. I'm on pain killers still so I may sound a little nutty. PM me if you need support! -
What is the swallow test after surgery?
I will what I want replied to suekistar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's also called an upper Gi, although it was much less involved than the upper GI I did pre-op. I wish I had been feeling better when I had mine done as the MD was ridiculously handsome. Lol..... -

Liquid diet
I will what I want replied to leenieceymic1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually - it's the other way around. The pre-op diet is too shrink your liver as it sits on top of the stomach and they have to retract it in order to perform the surgery. A large and brittle liver won't work. As for preparing you for small meals...you don't need to be prepared. Most of your stomach has Been removed. You won't be hungry. I'm having a much easier time with hunger/nausea after the surgery than before. I'm not hungry at all and I'm amazed at how little I need to eat to feel okay. On the pre-op diet I was nauseas and fatigued. I'm only 6 days post op but I have more energy now than before on the pre-op diet and that is at about 700 calories/90 grams protein. Just try to get through pre-op diet as best you can. Best to all! -
Crabby and cranky 5th day post op
I will what I want replied to auntjanny's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Lol....I stopped my husband mid-sentence today and told him to stop talking as I knew he was going to say something annoying and I didn't want to hear it. Yeah. That went over well. (I'm day 6 post - op) -
I think I'm regretting the sleeve
I will what I want replied to Huggies123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are still having so much pain I wonder if you still have a lot of inflammation from the hernia repair. I also had a massive hernia repaired and while in the hospital had a rare complication that required them to take me off the narcotics for 6 hours. During that time they gave me Tordol, which as I understand it is a anti-inflammatory. It helped a lot. When they put me back on the narcotics I requested to keep getting the Tordol as well. (I was in awful, hard to control pain). Now that I'm home, and off all but a little Vicodin, my pain is very manageable. Much less than my surgeon expected. My theory is that all the Tordal reduced the swelling from the hernia repair and from my stomach. I can drink very normally and with no pain. Maybe it's something you can talk to your surgeon about? I personally don't believe in pain and feel that everything should be done to control it. I'm sorry you are going through this - you may have to get insistent with your team that they help you more. You being "wired differently" has no baring on the situation other than meaning he needs to get creative. (Now I'm getting angry on your behalf). PM me if you need support. All my Best to you.
