Scared..Surgery in less than two weeks
kimba6999 replied to njkelly's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just want to say good luck to those of you with surgery coming and i hope you feel it was worth the nerves for those of you who just had it. I had mine back on dec 18th. Best christmas present EVER! My only regret is not doing this 10 yrs ealrier. I too was an emotional eater and just plain loved food. Now I getting to the point where I can enjoy some different foods again. I got rid of all the "dinner" sized plates in my house and now use salad sized plates for meals. Even my kids do. I portion everything and trust me, you wont miss all those foods. I was seriously addicted to pasta and sugar and now dont really care for either. I eat to live now, not live to eat. Staying busy and active will help immencely as well as exercising daily. Also carry water with you everywhere you go and everytime you think about food just drink. Great way to get your water in especially at the beginning. Lol. Remember that you are/did have that hunger hormone removed along with your stomach so you just need to change your mindset. Good luck to all of you. I wish you the best in you new life journey. -
How Many Calories @ Day?
kimba6999 replied to lapnicky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so sry. I just now understood what your issue is. You cant have the whey protein because your body had a problem with it! Sry but when i read your.post it just didnt click. I hope kindles post was helpful then. Also ask your doctor if there is somethimg else. Also like i mentioned greek plain nonfat yogurt is about 23g a cup. Add some puree fruit some flavor. That'll get you a couple hundred calories in a serving. -

Im 5 months out and still use whey protein shakes about 3 days a week. Really important to get that 60g. It aids in healing and weight loss. I have never struggled with getting my protein or water in since day one. If i can help in amy way or give u suggestions i would be more than happy to help. -

Whey protein is what u want. You just need the isolate. Gnc carries a good one. 24g per scoop. Canned chicken is good too, like tuna. -
How Many Calories @ Day?
kimba6999 replied to lapnicky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try this. I do amprotein shake when im not up to eating. Its about 45-50 grams. Its one scoop of protein, 3-4oz of skim milk, at least a half cup of non fat plain greek yogurt, and 1/2 cup fruit. I use 3 strawberries and half a banana. I mix it in my bullet but a blender will work. Its about 330-400 calories depending on what u use. Its good for 2 meals. Another good idea is 100 cal greek yogurts. Just those 2 items get u your grams of protein and 450-500 calories. Then you have 1 more meal and enjoy what you want. -

What are you eating that youre only getting in 350 calories? Are you getting your 60+ grams of protein and your water? -
It makes total sense. My fingers are crossed that they'll approve you the first time. Do you know what your current BMI is? I didnt have to do the 6 month before because my BMI was so high. I started at 53% and down to 40% already. Good luck on the 19th.

It is better to hear, yes. Everybody is working so hard. Keep up the good work and we will all reach our goals. Remember that this is a gift so take care of it. Never will i go back thats for sure! Congrats everyone on the decision and journey. -
I only lost 20lbs my first konth post op. I lost 23 in 2 wks pre-op though. So 20lbs is great! I am 41/2 months post and down 91 so you tell me! It also depends on your size, how much you have to lose. Smaller people tend to lose a little slower than us hefty losers lol. Just do what they say and it will all work out. Get busy on exercise too if you havemt started. Its the key to this whole journey. Good luck and keep us posted.

3 weeks post op and Stressed
kimba6999 replied to Ready2tryagain's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why are you sleeping so much? When i sleep more than 7-8 hrs i am draggimg. There is such a thing as oversleep. Trygto cut back and start exercising. Just walk and do some light weights as long as you aremt pulling on ur stomach muscles. You should be onto soft food by now. Try some refried beans or mashed potatoes. Eat slow and enjoy. I sipped too but you can now start trying a little bit bigger of a drink and start embracing and enjoying your new life style. Alot is memtal. I am almost 5 months post and doimg great. You will too! -

post op from April 29th
kimba6999 replied to mommamel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it helps, liquids feel different than actual eating. Plus if its not high in protein then your body wont feel full. Was it normal gravy or something specific that ur doctor gave you thats protein packed. For the first 2 weeks all I could have were protein drinks and water. It works trust me! -

post op from April 29th
kimba6999 replied to mommamel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! Reading all your posts makes me feel blessed. I feel bad for all of you going through so many difficulties. My surgery was at 5pm in the evening. My only issue was i didnt want to wake up after they were done and when I would fall asleep my oxygen levels would drop cuz I wasnt taking breaths. I held liquid just fine the next morning and was up walking a couple hours after i got back to my room. I also had a hernia repair and didnt feel a thing. I went home the next day about 2pm. Was barely there 24 hours. I healed quite quickly as I was taking in 80-100g of liquid protein and getting in most of my water. By 3 weeks I was back at the gym doing light exercises. I am not 41/2 months post and down 91lbs. I wish you all tye best and everything you are going through now will be worth it when you really start seeing the results. Good luck to you all -

5 months and rocking it out!
kimba6999 replied to kimba6999's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Today I had to start physical therapy for my knee. I had an accident back in 1993 and had surgery to repair my leg and well now i have severe osteoarthritis and cant ever get a knee replacement cuz my lower bone is so bad. To male ot worse my leg healed crooked so I dont stand straight. i have about an inch difference from my left to my right leg. With the rapid weight loss and working out 5-6 days a week i feel tons better but my knee is taking a toll with the massive increase in activity. Now I have therapy exercises to do and have to wear a knee band to help put my knee cap back on place. It will all be worth it in the end. I just want it healed up so I can do bike riding with the kids without hurting so much. Hope all have a great weekend. -
I grew up in a family that struggled with weight. I was always very active as a teen and contolled my weight well. I got married at 20 and had my first child at 21 and was in an abusive marriage. My weight ballooned throughout the years. I was up and down. 2 kids later and a life changing accident and a divorce in '94 and remarried into '99. 2 more kids later and a separation happening decided to go to a Bariatric seminar with the help of my counselor. I considered it years ago but got nervous. In 2012 i was 378lbs and climbing so i started yet another diet. By 2013 i had managed to lose about 40lbs but was so depressed. I started counseling and she encouraged me to at least check it out so i did. Within 2 months i was having surgery. I had to quit smoking and said goodbye to my old life in that time. I put on about 15 quiting smoking but it was worth it. On Dec 6, 2013 i started my pre-op protein diet. I lost 23lbs in those 2 wks. I stuck to the program, never cheated and drank about a gallon of water a day. A far cry from 5000 cal a day and 2 2 liters of pop and half a pack or better of cigs a day. My surgery date was Dec 18, 2013. I left the hospital the next day and spent a couple days at my parents and then 4 days post op i went to IL to my in laws to recouperate. I was almost instantly drinking 80+ grams of protein and about 3 bottles of water. I am the exception to the rule i think. I healed real fast. I did my daily walking and with in my first 2 wks i felt about normal again. At my 3 wk appt they told me i could start some light exercise like walking and light weights so i did. I hit the gym but did so with caution. At my 6 wk appt i was down to 304. It was amazing. I felt great and was eating at least my 60g a day. There are days when i just dont feel like eating but always make sure i get in my minimal grams and water. It happens every so often. I do not cheat and watch my sugar and fat intake closely as well. I consider this a gift and therefore take good care of it. It has been difficult at times. I have hit a couple plateaus and theres days when i just dont want to go to the gym but i stick it out and remember tue end to the means. I have 4 kids. 2 in their 20's and 2 more still at home. None of them have ever seen me at a healthy weight so i am so excited for them too. Since I have been losing weight i have taken the kids ice skating, roller skating, and bike riding without my tires going flat mid ride. I know go to the gym 5 days a week and get help from a trainer when i start plateauing so i can move it along. I try to fit in 80-100g of protein and drink a minimum of 6 bottles of water a day sticking around 900-1000 cal. Its a work in progress but i am so excited. It also helps that i have a great support group surrounding me. Im just excited more for my kids than myself. They will get to enjoy me, or put up with me(lol), for many more years to come. A healthy weight and active lifestyle are my big goals.

The Two Week Milk Diet
kimba6999 replied to luckyknickers57's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Probably from all the milk you are drinking. My 2 week pre-op diet was food. High protein food I had to buy but it was really good and I lost 23lbs so it worked. You're almost there so keep up the good work and you will get over the poo hump. Lol. Thank goodness I haven't yet had to deal with it. The worst has been 2 days. I think pictures even now are a great idea. They keep you moving on the right path. At least they do for me. Keep going you can do it. Be very proud!! -
This is kim. So glad to hear that things got straightened out for you. I can'tt begin to imagine the complications that brouht for you but sounds like you're on the right track now. I have been very lucky and have had absolutely no complications. I too am down about half of what i need to lose. My ultimate goal is to be about 170 so i still have about 90 more to go.i have a bigger build to myself and feel that if i went to much smaller than that i will look too thin. I started at 356 but my highest weight was 378. I was devistated. I have tried over 20 years and countless diets but just couldnt get there on my own. I truly wish I had done this years ago but better late than never right? I hope all is well with you and will wait to hear back from you. Tell me a little more about yourself. Kim

How Many Calories @ Day?
kimba6999 replied to lapnicky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well just do what u can but the more food you csn integrate the better you will feel. Maybe if ur getting ur protein from the powder try making actual protein shakes with a little skim milk and non fat greek yogurt and a little fruit and blend it. You will get more calories and more good proteins. Greek yogurt has become my staple in my program and i never ate it before surgery. Good luck. -
Awesome! Good luck tomorrow. Do you need to do the 6 month program prior or do you get to go right to pre-op and surgery.

Hello. My name is Kim and I am mow almost 5 months post. I has lost 89lbs and going strong. I decided to do this journey last Oct and had surgery om Dec 18th. It can be a quick or lengthy process. Good luck and i hope u get to get on this journey with the rest of us.

I was lucky/unlucky enough not to need to do the 6 month program prior. My BMI was 53%. I had the sleeve done Dec 18th so almost 5 months post. I know tye riggers of cutting things out but i had less than 2 months to prepare. Its good that u start working on getting rid of all the things that are harmful. I decided to do this journey in Oct and by Dec it was all real. I was extrememly addicted to pasta, pop and emotional eating plus i smoked. So i feel what ur doing right now. Im here to tell you that it is all worth it. The more you lose now the easier your surgery will go and the more fit u get now the easier recovery will be. So stick to it and look at the end game. I started at 356, lost 23lbs in my 2 wks prior to surgery and 89lbs in total since dec 6th. If you have questions or just need some encouragement please feel free to ask. If i can help i surely will.
