On that note, you are going to love shopping off the normal racks. I am having the time of ky life! Although I am almost solely shopping at the goodwill right now cuz i am moving so fast through sizes but one type of clothing i have absolutely loved is the Danskin clothes at Walmart. I buy the semi fitted. They are huggers and keep evrything snug so all my loose stuff doesnt hang out. I buy the spandex feeling ones. Thats about all i buy new right now. Just wanted to give you a little heads up. Have fun -
In all my research for this i kept coming across the same thing over and over as well as my doctor telling me this: "A sleeve gastrectomy also works because it removes the part of the stomach that produces Ghrelin, which is a hormone that stimulates appetite. This helps to noticeably reduce without completely eliminating a person appetite." The best way to describe how i feel is jot hunger but this empty feeling that i then know i need to eat something. I no longer get headaches from not eating or moody. Everyone deals differently but you do no longer produce that stimulator so you can control it. You just jeed to learn to read your ques. Get into a schedule and it will be alot easier for you. The rest is just habits you need to break. Good luck to you.

The Two Week Milk Diet
kimba6999 replied to luckyknickers57's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Honestly i dont think i ever really got anxious or nervous until they were wheeling me down the hall but then i think i was more excitement than nerves. My best advice to you is just do exactly what they tell you. I did and have had not one negative issue. As soon as u can get up and walk, do it! Try not to baby yohrself too much. Work on getting in your protein right away. The more protein u can get in the faster you will heal. Get in your 15 minute walk every hour and do your breathing in the little machine thing they give you. Just remember that this is the beginning of the rest of your life and the biggest benefit is being there even longer now for your family and all the things that you will now be able to do now with them. Thats what keeps me going!! Good luck to you just in case i dont get to see your next post. Im just smiling big for you right now and so excited for you!!! Congrats. -

So proud of you! You should be proud to say your weight, i sure am. How old are you if you don't mind me asking? My family in general on both myom amd dads side have struggled with weight. My dad has always been thinner but once my mom started having kids she has struggled with her weight as well as the rest of my brothers and sisters. I was always thinner when younger. I carry my weight pretty evenly aroumd my body so i can carry a little more weight and it not be noticeable. It wasnt til I got pregnant with my first child at 20 that my weight started ballooning. Over the next 23 yrs it just kept growing. I yoyo dieted for years. I would lose alot but then gain it all back. Eventually i got the mindset that this is just who i am. Then 2 years ago my husband left me and i went into a depressed state and then realized that if i am ever going to be happy and be there for my kids is to get this weight off so thats what i did. Now i am so grateful. I am doing things again i havent done in 15-20 yrs because of the crappy weight. My activity levels are through the roof. Now i look forward to actually using my bed for sleep and not just the place to be lazy. Just keep up the great work and look forward to hearing more about your journey. -
But its not hunger pangs. Its an empty feeling u get not a hunger feeling. The hormone grehlin that gets released that causes the hungry feeling is no longer there. Do some research into it. You do get an empty feeling but you wont get hunger headaches or pangs if you dont eat. That is all psychological. Its what ur body is used to. U need to break the cycle is all.

post op from April 29th
kimba6999 replied to mommamel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had no hair loss. I am 5 months post and its growing like a weed. I have taken in 80g plus of protein a day since about 5 days out. I never had post surgery pain or gas, no reflux, no vomitting or anything else since surgery. I have been extremely lucky. But you wont have a hair issue if u get ur proteins in and follow the plan and take ur suppliments. -

FYI there is no way to prevent the hair loss. I saw my dermatologist yesterday. The anesthesia puts a good portion of your hair follicles to sleep. Me and my hair stylist both noticed my hair hasn't grown AT ALL in the last 2 weeks since my surgery (no gray roots showing). In a few months all the hair that was in that stage at surgery will fall out. Nothing can be done about that. But it will grow back. In the meantime I'm taking extra Biotin, using a hair-strengthening shampoo I got from the dermatologist, and if it gets bad I'll use Rogaine and/or get some hair extensions until my hair grows back in. -

You really need to talk to your NUT. You really do not experience hunger anymore. They removed that hormone. Its all psychological. You need to change your mind set. The reason u r on liquids is to give your stomach time to heal. It is stapled and must be careful of a rupture. You must be committed to this if you want it to work. Its hard at the beginning but it gets easier. Make wise choices and remember where you were in life and why you made this choice. Its a life changer and you need to be strong. I am almost 5 months post and 92lbs down. You can do it. Just learn to say no and pick healthy choices and stick to what they tell you. It only works if you want it to.

soft food mistake?
kimba6999 replied to jennynoblemiller's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chinese was probably not the wisest choice for beginning. Stay away from takeout! Unfortunately if you had the sleeve, they also removed the hormone that makes you feel hungry. If you feel hungry its psychological. Soft food is not pork. Soft food is like chicken chewed to a puree, greek yogurt, eggs chewed up well, things like that. U really need to look at the fat content of what u ate. Good luck to you. -
Whats full feel like?
kimba6999 replied to nurse_lindsaymae09's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You will know when u are full. It does feel different from before. When i have had enough i start hiccuping. I know I need to stop. I havent eaten to the point of throwing up but i know of people who have. I too use the smaller plates and I portion. If I am able to finish it then I stop cuz i know my body has had enough for that sitting. Rarely can I finish all my food though. I am almost 5 months out and down 92lbs. You dont feel miserable full cuz your body wont let u overeat anymore. You will make yourself throw up. Not enough room so the only place it has to go is back up where it came from. Just slow down Nd enjoy your food. It takes me about 45 min to eat an actual meal now. -
What is your go to food when you're out and forgot to bring?
kimba6999 replied to teacherlady2133's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Core power is a good Protein Drink if your stuck out. Btw greek yogurt may have been your better choice for protein. Another tip is to carry some Protein powder with you. In a.pinch u can add it to water and mix it up and drink it. You will get better at preparing for any happenings. Good luck to you. -
Mothers day scheduled at a buffet ... Lol

When you have surgery they usually give you 2 cards. At least i got them. One is to let anyone know in case of emergency that you have had bariatric surgery. The other is to let restaurants know that you have had it done so maybe they will charge you for a senior price or you can eat off the kids menu. They are nice to have. Ask your doc about it. -
Thats good! I just drink throughout the whole day. As long as make sure ur getting ur 64 a day.

How to prepare your spouse for lifestyle change
kimba6999 replied to patricia_sleeve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got rid of all of our "normal dinner plates" and we eat of what I would call a salad plate. Its the medium sized plate so when you put your portions on it looks way more than it is. Just a suggestion but it has really helped. As long as he is portioning, finish the plate. -
Do you mean a cup as in 8 oz? You should not feel restriction when drinking. You should be working toward 64oz a day. In the beginning you should be sipping all day long to get it in along with your protein.

So mad at myself
kimba6999 replied to Pretty_In_Purple's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too was a boredom eater. You need to work on changing that lifestyle. This journey is a life changer. You need to find a different way to fill your time. When I want something not good for me I look at my before picture and then sit on my exercise ball and do some exercises. You really need to keep yourself busy and if you like to graze at night, i keep bottled water next to my bed or the sofa and reach for the bottle. I also do these 100 cal pack popcorn. Theres alot of popcorn and i can graze on that over a matter of an hour and its satisfying. Just really need to work on breaking bad habits and put good ones in their place. If you really want this you will find a way and change your mindset. You can do it!!! -

I cant wait for the lake to get aarm enough to go swimming. Been walking the beach a couple times a week. Great exercise but such a tease lol. Good luck on your goal. Dont remember if i said it but when it hit 299,i cried. I havent been there for about 15 years. I am currently 265 ajd hoping to be below 250 by my 6 month next month on the 25th. I gym it religiously and sometime twice a day if my friends hit me up to go even if i already went. They are being supportive and dont dare turn them down lol. Maybe at some point over the summer i can get you to come and spend some time at "my" lake. Did you say what your starting weight was if you dont mind? I hated my weight but dont mind saying it anymore. Dang proud of myself so doesnt bother me anymore. Most people are impressed when i tell them. Good luck this.month. you can hit every goal you set if you put your mind to it. I'm rooting for you!!!! -

Mothers day scheduled at a buffet ... Lol
kimba6999 replied to squeaker31's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just did my first buffet with my son last week. I am 41/2 months post. I enjoyed some chicken and a little rice and a couple veggies. They even had a gastric price for me. It was a bit of a waste but it felt good. I feel bad for the rest of you who suffer through horrible people. My family and friend have been awesome from day one and so so supportive. Even strangers. At the buffet we sat by 2 ladies that were rather large and commented to me about how good the full rack of ribs were so my son spoke up and said i had the sleeve a few months back. They both commented, as they were eating off their 4 plates of food each, they had friends who had surgery and had nothing but cpmplications. Theyd never have it done! All i could think was yeah, id rather die of heart failure and keep feeding my face than take a small risk to be healthy and enjoy the rest of my life. I mean one of these ladies was so large she sat in 2 chairs and could barely walk. I never got that large and my quality of life was terrible so i can only imagine theirs. It gave me that extra punch i needed. Anyhow, go to the buffet, eat a little of what you know you can have and if anyone says anything remember why you did it. Keep your eyes on the prize. It isnt so far away.
