5 months and rocking it out! from Michigan
kimba6999 replied to kimba6999's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello to my fellow michigan sleevers. I just wanted to check in after the long weekend. I hope evryone had a great Memorial Day and able to watch what we ate. It was great to cook out with the kids. I had chicken and even had a corn on the cob. I was a good girl. My only cheat was on Monday when we picniced at this huge park in Grand Haven. I had a popcicle. A whole 40 cal but 7g of sugar. Im a good girl so it wasnt all bad. Lol. Usually when we go to the park I always sit and watch everyone play. Im the picnic table holder downer!! This time I actually played tag with all of the kids!! I was running and climbing and having a blast(altho they did take it a little easy on me). Also they bought a kickball and we went out to the baseball field and played team kickball. I was outfielding and catching balls and throwing people out. I even kicked and was able to run all the bases. My oldest son is 24 and none of my 4 kids have ever played with me like this let alone see me run! It was absolutely the best day of my life as of yet! My body was hating me on Tuesday but it was so worth it. I think i burned more than 1000 cal that day too! It felt so good to not have to sit and watch life happen around me. I was part of it all. My kids said it was definitely a different experience for them and they loved it. My soon to be ex husband also joined us since it was his visitation day and i didnt wanna take that from him. He was even in aw. When we met i was a little heavier than i am now. Even yesterday i still couldnt believe that was me out there playing although my body reminded me all day and night. Lol would love to hear from you all. I hope everyone had a great one. -
I found a winner! 60 grams of protein and excellent taste!

Ok. Well the price confused me. The isolate is like 19.99 and the blend is 15.00. Thats why i thought that. At least on my neck of the woods it is. Good luck then. -

You are using the whey Protein blend though. The blend isnt the same as the isolate. With the blend you are not actually getting the protein they advertise because its the blend. You will need to look it up but the net protein is actually lower. Instead of it being 30g ur actually only geting something like maybe 20g. The isolates arewhat u need.to stick to. You can discuss it with ur NUT but they will tell u the same. I used the blend too until i was told different. Good luck I just doubled checked the label & It is whey protein isolate. 30grams of protein in 1 scoop. This was discussed w/ my nut as well. -

Sleevers feedback wanted! Will I lose my hair after the Sleeve?
kimba6999 replied to Gr8fulMiniMe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am at 5 months and recently noticed just a slight difference in the hair in my brush lately. It is a little more than usual but its not just gonna fall out willy nilly unless u arnt getting enough Protein amd Vitamins needed. Mine is very minimal but i have lost a little. I wouldnt notice it if inwasnt looking for it. Hope this.makes u feel a little better. Good luck and dont stress over it. -
Since the day after surgery i too have had no issues with eating. I take on 80-100g of Protein per day. I concentrate my cal intake on Proteins though. I am 5 months out and stay around 900cal and feel great but i can eat just about anything now. I dont think anything has stretched. I was told that the sleeve wont really ever stretch backnout to even close.to what we had. It will relax over time but never stretch like that. Just eat protein with every meal and limit your fruits and what not. They can add up as well as nuts. They are good but only once in a while. Your weight loss sounds like it has been great. I too feel bad for all those who struggle with getting in their proteins daily. We are the lucky ones. I havent had one problem physically since this all started. So good luck to you and wish u all the best for the future.

I follow the 30g rule. I shoot for 80-100g a day. I too have read that around 40 is the limit. After that the body stops absorbing amd it becomes stored as fat. So i stick to 15-30 per meal or snack. I too use the body fortress. What they are saying is they make the shake at 60g and drink in throughout the day, not just in one sitting. I am 5 months post but have been taking in at least 80g a day since about day 5. I do have days where i just dont feel like eating so i make sure on those days that i get at least the 60g. I strive for my 80-100 each day and 4-6 bottles of water daily and exercise 5 days a wk and it has worke great for me. I am down 96lbs to date and have no issues at all through this journey. So good luck to you. -
Hey pam. We ate all here to support each other and sounds like you need some. I was sleeved in Dec 2013. I have been doing real good but a couple weeks ago i got real depressed and didnt do so good for about a week or so. So i started looking through some old pics of me and thinking about how i felt at that weight and thought what can be so bad that i would want to feel like that again. I had to figure out what was making me feel so down when i have so much to look forward to. I got back to basics and started tracking everything entering my mouth and watching my Protein. I make sure i get to the gym everyday and not just phone it in but make sure i push myself everytime. You have come so far pam, dont turn to old habits. You are worth way more than that. You deserve to be happy. Were you happy with yourself prior to surgery? Remember how you felt and ask yourself, is it worth it to be that way again? Stop and think about it and get back to basics. You know you can do it cuz you already have!! Personally i have a counselor to speak with when i need her to help me thru the rough Patches cuz we all have them. I am only 5 months post but have lost 95lbs. I post a new pic of myself every 6 weeks on my wall in my house so everytime i question myself and my journey i look at how far ive come and it helps keep me on track. Stay with us! We r all here for you. Let us help. Please get back on track, YOU are worth it!

Stall EVERY 3 weeks?
kimba6999 replied to Pretty_In_Purple's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only weigh once a week too but i do mine on Thursday since i had surgery on Wed. I have lost 96lbs in just 5 months. I have had a couple small stalls but the first time it happened and i knew i was eating right i figured it was my workouts. I work out at least 5 days a week so i went to the trainer and had him help me change up what i was doing and the next week i had lost 4 lbs. Also when i wasnt losing i still noticed a change in my clothing. You also need to remember that most of us didnt really workout before this so our body is building muscle again. Remember that muscle weighs more than fat so u may be still losing fat and building muscle so sometimes especially early on the scale wont show ur progress cuz ur converting. Dont get discouraged. If you are doing what you're supposed to do it will happen. Just try to change things up and if u can get in more grams of protein per day i encourage u to. Since day 5 if strive for 80-100g and it has worked for me although everyone is different. Good luck to you. -

Please tell me you eat things with flavor and texture!
kimba6999 replied to MB Ready to Change's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh yes, you will enjoy foods again you just wont depend on them to fill guilt or unhappiness. You are eating to live and not living to eat. I am 5months post. Your mind set will change toward food if you commit to the whole lifestyle change. I love my Protein shakes cuz they are sweet and u use chocolate preotein once in a while too for that fix. I eat watermelon and other fruits that are sweet. I also have clif builders bar and they remind me of a candy bar. You can have special K chips or pop chips for snacking. I also like the 100 cal bags of popcorn. Oh and you will be surprised how flavorful things will become. I have really learned how to use different spices amd seasonings since my main staple is chicken. Need to make it different all the time. You will get thru the liquid and soft food. Just follow all the rules and life will be great. Make sure u get in ur Proteins and then enjoy some other things. You will slowly integrate almost all foods back in. I just stay away from Pasta and most starch and limit my bread to once or twice a week. I am down 94lbs in my 5 months. I wish you all the best and it will get better and easier to make the healthy choices. And dont forget the exercise. So important too. -

Having a good weekend so far. I had a bad week or so. I didnt gain but have been a bit on the depressed side and feel myself wanting to turn to food. Been a fight but winning so far. I just keep looking at my before pic and remember why i did this. I only lost a pound but i figure with the way i felt i did good. Finally.moving out of my funk amd doin better. Getting back to basics and concentratong on what i eat and getting to the gym and givig it my all. Leaving it all on the table amd let the chips fall where they may. On the bright side, i am starting a new job om Tuesday. I am finally feeling like i am strong enough to go back to working full time. We will see. I hope you all have a great Memorial Day weekend. Talk to ya all next week!! -
What are your thoughts regarding Bananas?

What are your thoughts regarding Bananas?
kimba6999 replied to Butterflyhigh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can not live a healthy lifestyle without carbs. What u do need to stay away from are the simple carbs from processed foods. There are good carbs that are slow releasing and good for the body. You need carbs for eblnergy. Using proteins in place of them can eventually do more harm than good. All foods contain some carbs, just choose healthy and wise. A half a banana a day is all good. -
Surgery tomorrow morning!
kimba6999 replied to yasmineSF's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I started at 378 and 5'9" and when i finally hit my pre op diet i was 356. I am now 5 months post and weigh in at 263. It works! Must have to do what ur supposed to do and stay on task. Its ok to feel nervous and worried. Its surgery! I didnt really get nervous or worried. When they wheeled me down the hall i got a little fluttery but i think it was more from excitement about changing my life. Just keep ur head up and all will be great. I wish u the best of luck and hope to hear from u after surgery. Btw, welcome to the club! -

kimba6999 replied to Butterflyhigh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Totally agree with Pdxman. I am 5 months post op and my only restrictions are get in my protein and keep my fat and sugar down. It works for me! I am down 94lbs and feel good every day. It works! They havent mentioned anything about carbs. If u are eating the right way and concentrating on ur healthy proteins then carbs arent an issue. Like was said, you need good carbs to function. All this hype over a banana. Its all about portion control. -

I too male my shakes with body fortress. I use a half a banana and strawberries too. Another good one is choc. and raspberries. Love it! I am post op and have a shake about 4 days a week. I also put in greek yogurt and skim milk and get enough shake for 2 meals and about 45g of protein. Have the banana. I just use the smaller ones and have half a day. I havent been told not to have anything thats healthy for me. Good luck to u. -
Need help finding protein shakes/powder! Recommendations?
kimba6999 replied to MorganO87's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Know im a little late but I too do the body fortress but u need to make sure u get the protein isolate. You canget it at walmart or walgreens or meijers that i know of. I make mine into a shake with greek yogurt(plain nonfat), a little skim milk and a little fruit. Makes a great shake plus u can change it up with different fruits. Good luck -

Just remember, you're through the worst of it. Believe me when i say my hospital ecperience was much different here. I had a private room and the nurses specialized in the bariatric treatment. Lucoily i only spent a day in the hospital from beginning to end but they were super and wonderful. I feel so bad for your experience but just remember the end goal like you said. What a wonderful journey you have begun. I am just so excited for you. I cant wait to hear about your journey, the ups and the downs. Til next time, enjoy yourself and congrats again to u and the family. -

Good luck to you on ur 5k. It will be easy peasy for you evem if u finish last, its more than you would've done before u started this. -

Thats awesome to hear! We were close to the same starting weight. I lost 23lbs for my 2wk pre-op plan. I also have 2 kids still at home. I am doing this for me but also for my kids. I want to be able to enjoy doing things with them. My older boys never saw me thin either so this is a journey for all of us. I already enjoy so much more. I used to sit around all the time and watch everyone else play, now im right in it with them. I have been ice skating, roller skating, paint balling, playing at the park and actually climbing on stuff, and playing basketball and football with my son. Its been wonderful. You are gonna be loving life the more you lose. So again welcome to forum ajd good luck. Hope to hear from u on a regular basis. We all need to be here for each other. How are the others doing lately?! -
