My nutritionist has cut me back to one. I think that the goal is to be able to get all 60 grams from food by the time I'm 3 months out from surgery.

I have a Fitbit Flex that my sister gave me for Christmas. My NP wants me to walk 10,000 steps a day and now I do! It also will sync with MyFitnessPal. I love it!

In our house, we're charter members of Acorn! Poirot, Marple, Foyle's War, Wallander (with subtitles translating the Swedish), and Midsomer Murder. We've been working our way through all the 20+ years of Midsomer! Network wise, the NCIS shows, Nature and Nova on PBS.

Oh, well, it's just six weeks. But right now, I'm thinking about some salsa chicken!

Well, I saw my nutritionist today and, yes, even though tomatoes are a fruit, my nutritionist says they count as a vegetable. Which is what was expected. Unfortunately for me, she is NOT counting avocados as vegetables. So, starting today, I can have tomatoes but not avocados. There goes my dream of having some guacamole! At least for the next six weeks! ????

December Surgery Thread - we rock!
Mommabird replied to bellabloom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
30%! That's the amount of excess weight that my NP told me I have lost so far! And I was thinking that I would get fussed at for only losing 23 pounds in the six weeks since surgery! I am thrilled! ???? -
Silk lite almond milk (60) cals? Do you use it in shakes? Can we?
Mommabird replied to Homecie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm blessed in that my grocery store has a store brand of skim milk that is not only lactose free but has 12 grams of protein per cup! Needless to say, that's what I use! ???? -
BariatricPal Launching Online Store to sell Discounted Bariatric Nutritional Products ? (Vitamins, Protein etc.)
Mommabird replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'd be interested! I'm just six weeks post-op so I'm not totally sure of what products I will use in the future, but for now I'd be interested in Unjury and Celebrate products. -
I'm using the new sugar free Altoids. They come in peppermint and wintergreen. I also use cinnamon Listerine tongue strips.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a standard, across the board food plan for all WLS patients that the doctors could all agree on! -

I was told no by my nutritionist. She recommended sugar free soy milk as it has a lot more protein. -
My son and I have been having that discussion! I get to start veggies on Wednesday and made the comment about can't wait for tomatoes and avocados. He pointed out that they were both fruits. So,I'm asking my NP on Wednesday at my six week appointment. But to answer your question, I can start having fruit at 12 weeks post-op. I'll try to remember to update on Wednesday about whether tomatoes are considered vegetable or fruit. I'm betting on vegetable. I'm not so sure about the avacado! :-)

What multivitamin do you take?
Mommabird replied to annebqui's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take Celebrate multi-complete chewables. They come in several flavors, I like the orange. You can order a sample pack for, I think,$3.00. It comes with samples of all their bariatric chewables in every flavor they come in. I sampled them all pre-op and then ordered my favorite flavors of the multi-complete, calcium, and b-12. -

naan, Please check with your nutritionist. While annebqui gets veggies at three weeks, I don't get them until six weeks! Each doctor has their own way. -
Today, my husband took away any excuses I can come up with not to get my 10,000 steps that my NP told me to walk every day. I am now the proud owner of a brand new treadmill! I have to admit, I have been coming up with a LOT of excuses lately. It has been unusually cold and wet here in central Texas. I have felt cold since surgery so getting out and walking in the cold was just more than I could do. Now I can walk inside! It will be especially nice this summer when the temperature is up over 100 degrees! My husband calls it his investment in my health. Now, if I can just get him to use it too!

Why Did You Choose Your Specific Type of Weight Loss Surgery?
Mommabird replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I chose to have a RNY Gastric Bypass because of my Diabetes. In November 2013, I had a bout of pancreatitis, that is terologistnow believed to have been caused by one of my Diabetes medications. In December2013, at an appointment with my endocrinologist, he told me that my chronic diarrhea was being caused by my other Diabetes medication. That was when gastric bypass surgery was first mentioned to me. A week later, my gastroenterologist also mentioned it to me as a solution to some of my medical problems. I had my RNY on December 10, 2014 and am off both of my Diabetes medications. My fasting blood sugars now run in the low 70s. -
Week 3,I was eating eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, shredded cheese, refried beans, chicken, turkey, fish and soy products. The same things that I am eating now at 5 weeks post-op. Next week, after my 6 week check up, I should be able to have veggies! I'm really looking forward to that! No starchy carbs for me until after the six month mark.
-
Week one, I was clear liquids plus protein shakes made with water. Week two, eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, shredded low fat cheese, non fat refried beans and half of a protein shake made with milk three times a day. Week four, I got to add chicken, turkey, fish and soy products. Week six, I'll get to start soft cooked veggies with salads and raw veggies added two weeks later. At three months, I can have fruit and after the six month mark, I can start trying beef, pork and starchy carbs.

where did you sleep?
Mommabird replied to MisforMimi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Two and a half weeks in the recliner for me. I stayed on pain medication for that long also. Then one morning I woke up with no pain at all! I moved to the bed and haven't taken anything stronger than chewable Tylenol since. -
4 Week Post-Op: What are you eating?
Mommabird replied to berkeleycurves's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm eating eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, shredded cheese, refried or smashed pinto and black beans, chicken, turkey, fish and soy products. On January 21st at my six weeks check up, I will get to add veggies. Currently, I still have to supplement my diet will a half of a protein shake three times a day. I had surgery on 12/10. -
Everything I eat seems to give me gas
Mommabird replied to krisstep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know where the sunglasses happy face came from, but for those in Texas, the store I was speaking of is HEB. -

Mommabird replied to krisstep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take a chewable Lactaid tablet before I have anything with dairy. It has helped me tremendously. Luckily, for me, a Texas based grocery store chain (HEB) has two different store brand lactose free milks to choose from. The one that my surgeon's office recommend is called MooTopia. It only has 6 grams of carbs per cup and 12 grams of protein! So, I get no symptoms of lactose intolerance and it makes getting my protein in much easier! -
Dec 30 rny and still in pain?
Mommabird replied to newlifeb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had major left side pain for most of three weeks. My NP was surprised that at my two week check up, I was still using pain medication. I'll 4 weeks post-op on Wednesday. About the middle of last week, my pain went away, seemingly over night. I still get twinges if I over do, but, I can get up and down on my own and am finally able to sleep in a bed like a normal person! Hang in there! It will get better soon! -
How about some NSVs!?!?
Mommabird replied to shyanne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This morning, while getting ready for church, my husband, all of the sudden, says "Wow! You have a butt! I've never seen you with a butt before!"
