  1. :ranger:I was just wondering if there is any one in London that has been banded. It would be great to have someone close.
  2. Mitcha I realize it has been a long time responding to this post. I would like to join one of your coffee's if you still have them to discuss the band. I was banded in September last year and it really hasn't done alot for me to date. I realized finally that I was working it wrong. Anyways if you do get this please let me know. Thanks Sheila
  3. Hi There I am back from a weeks vacation. I stopped over for a fill on my way and now I am at 5.7 cc. Still not right. I called Tammy today in Mississauga and we have scheduled another fill next Tuesday. She said not to get discouraged we will get it. It is discouraging because I am taking the train everytime I have to go and it is a full day trip. I hope my sweet spot it almost feeling sweet. I also feel that the amount of money that I paid for the band I will keep going back until I am 80 if I have to to get it right. I have lost maybe 1 pound since post op which was the beginning of September. Not very good. Anyways, I would be very interested in getting together for coffee and discuss everyones experiences and maybe we can creat a great London support group. Let me know.
  4. Cindy Thank you for the information about the beer. Someday when I really feel like one I might give it a try. I am going for my second fill on October 16th. Please let me know how you feel tomorrow after you fill, if you don't mind and if you have a chance. I can still fit anything down.

    Where is your port?

My port is about 2 inches from my belly button. I can actually feel it. When I had my fill yesterday the nurse said it was an easy fill because it was right there. Lucky I guess!!
  6. I still can't get it right "Darling Husband"!!
  7. Thanks Chris sorry for calling your dear husband a DW!!!!!

    having a little doubt

The reason I chose the band over bypass was that the surgery was Laparascopic and they wouldn't have to cut me open. Another reason was that with the band you are only suppose to lose 1 to 2 lbs per week and that is a slow pace I know but at least it will hopefully stay off and I would not have to pay to have my excess fat taken away. I am hoping that it will firm up as I lose. Sixty-one pounds in 4 months is great but really sounds too fast. But good for her. I have only been banded for a month and had my first fill yesterday. I have lost 17 lbs so far but most of that was pre op. My opinion and mine only is I am glad I chose the band over the bypass.
  9. Chris That sounds very painful. When you were describing your symptoms I thought you had gas. That would have been easier on you. Please do as the doctor says a chill for a bit. By the way since I am new what does DW stand for? Dim Witt!!
  10. Crispy I was talking to my sister today and I told her about the beer. She said that all I had to do is leave it out for awhile and drink it flat. I really can't see doing that. My dad and I used to be beer buddies and he past away last year so I lost my beer buddy. It should be much easier for me. Nice to know there are more beer drinkers out there.
  11. Wow, thanks to everybody who responded to my thread. It is great to know that I am not alone in London and there are a few of us either in London or from surrounding areas. I went for my first fill yesterday in Mississauga. They actually pulled out 4.4 cc which she was surprised that they had put that much in when they banded me. She only up it .6cc which I don't think is going to be my last because even today I am not really satisfied with what amount I am eating. I am really trying to stick to it. It is a whole new way of eating. I met with the nutritionist also yesterday and I was surprised on finding out that I am allowed three meals a day of 1 cup and 1 small snack. I should try and go 4 to 5 hours between meals without snacking. Should be fun. I was also told to forget post op which was eating every 1/2 hour. Everything is changing now because I am past post op. I also found out that carbonated beverages are a no for as long as the band is in me ( which is for life) and that includes beer. I know there is probably not allot of beer drinkers out there but I did enjoy the odd one. Apparently if you drink carbonated beverages your little part of you stomach will fill up with gas and it could cause a slippage. We don't want that. I guess I will be going back to Mississauga in two week to top my fill. Hopefully it won't take long to find my sweet spot!! Hope everyone is having a great day and if you are not that is okay also.

    Fill

I was wondering if anyone can actually feel their port. I can. It is about two inches above my belly button. It is so weird. I spoke to the clinic and was told that I am the second person who has said this. I am going for my first fill on Tuesday Oct. 2 and I was also wondering can you feel it and does it hurt or does it hurt if there is only a problem. Thanks

unbearable gas pain...what else can I do?

I found out about bad gas pains Thursday night when I ate antipasto which obviously was not good for me. I was woken up from a deep sleep to terrible pain in the stomach and abdominal area. I thought I was going to dye. I was all set to go the the emergency but then took gasX and imodeum and it seemed to settle enough to go back to sleep. When I woke up the next morning it was still there so I decided to go for a walk with the dog. That seemed to get things moving and I was fine after that. This just made me realize that I really have to watch now what I put in my mouth. I can't eat everything that I used to.

How long does the Gas last?

Great topic this morning. I was up last night for about three hours. I thought I was dying. I had so much pain in the abdominal area that I couldn't stand it. I almost went to the emerg but didn't thank goodness. I took GasX and Imodeum and it seems to have calmed down enough to go back to sleep. But this morning it is still there. Then I tried to diagnose myself and said that maybe I have a urinary infection. I was just about to call my doctor and decided to come online and I am glad I did. Has anyone suffered severe gas pain like this? And is walking the only way to get rid of it? Dying inside helllllllpppppppp!!!!!!!

Here is the truth about the band

Thanks IndioGirl55. You are giving great advice today. I will keep everyone posted as to what happens to me after my fill on Tuesday. Also thanks maggiehpp for asking what PBing was because I had not idea either. But have experienced it many times and now I know what it is.

Here is the truth about the band

I am not seeing many replies to alysedg23. I am scheduled for my first fill on Tuesday October 2, 2007 and I was wondering if things were going to change. I was also thinking of going back to the basics after my fill for a few days. This meaning liquids for first day then pureed etc. What are your comments of this please? Not too sure what to expect!!

    Do I Need A fill ?

I was told that there are a few people out there that do not require any fills. They hit there sweet spot right away. Unfortunately I am not one of them. I am going for my first fill on Tuesday October 2, 2007. I am not getting my hopes up that this will restrict me. We shall see.

How do you get over the head issues?

Sorry wasabubblebutt I didn't see your post last night. Thank you for the inspiration. I am not being so hard on myself today and will go easy until my first fill and go from there. I will take one day at a time. This is proven to work as we can all read in this site. So I will relax a bit and baby those new tires for awhile. Have a great day!!

    second thoughts?

I never had a second thought, but eveyone is different. I even told my husband that I wanted to take the train to Mississauga instead of him driving me because I felt this is my problem not his. It is almost like drinking in a sense it is us with the problem and nobody else. My parents visited my brother-in-law and he hasn't had a drink in 15 years he is an alcholic. Mom and dad would never drink around him but he finally said "It is my problem not yours" go ahead and have a drink. Just like when I went to visit my sister wanted icecream and she said but I shouldn't it is not fair to you again, I said this time, " It is my problem not yours" enjoy. But I guess I was ready also because I really didn't have any second thoughts besides the money and then all I said was " I am worth it". Take a chance for once in your life. Do it for yourself.

    Plateau before first fill???

I was told last nights that I was worrying too soon. I was banded on the 4th of September and I have not been losing alot of weight. I think last week was .6 and I was getting discouraged. I haven't even had my first fill yet. What I realized is it took years to put this on and it is not going to go away in a month. We must be patient even though it is hard. I also lost 20 lbs at the beginning and my concern was I didn't want to gain that back. So far so good!!
  21. I was banded on September 4th, 2007 with Dr. Mumford in Mississauga, Ontario. There doesn't seem to be alot of Canadians on this site, but you are stuck with me. Good Luck to all the September Bandsters.

How do you get over the head issues?

That is what I was hoping to hear Denise. Thanks. I guess I am just a little overanxious. Do you mind me asking you how many fills you have had so far?

    Is anyone else tired???

I was banded on September 4th and the first week I was very tierd and had to nap in the afternoon and the evening. I talked to my sister who is a nurse and she said it was because I was only taking in 400 calories for the day and I had just ran out of juice. My body wasn't used to running on that little. I tried to increase my calories with an Optifast and it seemed to help. Now that I am eating more, I find my energy has increased a great deal. Hope this helps.

How do you get over the head issues?

Was reading all of these replies and I thank everyone for saying what they are saying. I was thinking today and getting very frustrated. It is almost three weeks since I have been banded and it seems that my band will take anything. I have been told to watch just in case the stitches rupture inside. My frustration comes from not feeling full and always wanting to eat. It is like I am back to where I started. The cookies today just found my mouth and I just get so angry because I have spent $16,0000 and I should be able to control this. I figured with spending this much it would be so easy. I am hoping that maybe once I get my first fill things will change and maybe by then I will get my mind around this. I am not going to give up on this one, because I am tierd of being unhealthy. I have to realize that the band is just a tool to help. I think it is more mind over matter!!
  25. I wouldn't worry about your reply. You were completely honest. I was told the same thing that I am not to drink any carbonated beverages and yes they said you can still drink alcohol but it would just defeat the purpose of the lap band. The same with icecream for all us icecream lovers!!
