  6. I try to give my disclamer...I'm not a doctor. I'm not promoting products and talking from own experience with Wls. I'm ignoring many posts that are pointless arguments. I have had great support by most members here. I choose to ignore and not invest my time into the negative. Sent from my SM-G920T using the BariatricPal App

@@JupiterinVirgo Congratulations! What are you doing to Celebrate ?
  8. @@Synee This was my experience with surgery. My high weight 254 I went from a 22/24 pants and XX large top. Goal weight 140 in six months.to a size 3/5 pants and a small to a med top. depending on the designer. I'm now 2 1/2 years out. I maintain my weight in the 130's. During weight loss I dropped sizes quickly. My husband would have to tell me to get new clothing. I went from a 22/24 to 16 in two months. I can't remember after that how many times changed sizes. But it was many times..lol I never thought I would be this size even with surgery. On a side note: I made a video of my loss. I used the photos that my hubby took of me each month to compare my weight loss. Some of the photos make me laugh. I didn't realize my clothing was too large. I needed to change sizes. I had no clue. http://www.bariatricpal.com/videos/view-10-goal/

    Does being active get easier?

Keep dreaming of all the child/teenager activities you want to do. Use it as motivation to get out and do them. Life is short and age is only a number It gets easier as you drop weight and gain strength. Enjoy. Sent from my SM-G920T using the BariatricPal App

Interested to hear vets' opinions on this

@@Who'sThere I believe in the golden seven months to a year of surgery is your best weight loss. I hope patients take full advantage of that time. I hope they fight for what they want from surgery. I liked the article. I think others can benefit from it.

  13. @@HRHMKB I had a belly and boobs before surgery. I can't afford plastics. I have to find good bra's and shape wear to hide the loose skin. Weight lifting has helped me tone up a. But, It does not make the lose skin go away. I'm still overjoyed with my results. The skin issue I can deal with.

    Exercise habits?

@@GACaldwell your doing fantastic~! I have to admit I was a total couch potato before surgery. I got my exercise in only because it was a requirement of surgery. I started slow and built up. At three months I had a big stall. It was my wake up call that I had to put more to my workouts. I sold my treadmill and a gym membership. I'm an emotional stress eater. I changed that behavior into becoming a true gym rat. My best stress relief without guilt My workout has become an addiction: I never dreamed this was ever possible. At two years out I still do cardio and hour and weight lifting and hour. 4 times a week. I trained and ran a half marathon in may. I teach physical fitness with senior citizens four days a week on top of my own work out. (hand weights, silver sneakers, cardio and resistance band) I completed a female weight lifting class. I'm learning so much. I am making gains. At my age I'll never be a body builder or bikini model but I do ok for an old fart.

    Being thin

@@pb1961 I used to struggle and sweat just carrying the extra body weight. Some days simple things were a chore. To feel comfortable and confident in your own skin is what skinny feels like to me. I'm having experiences in life that I think some people take for granted if they have never been obese. I feel like I'm making up for lost time. The things I can do physically have surprised the hell out of me. I Love gardening, I move and lift with ease. I ran a half marathon this year. Just like @@Djmohr weight gain is a big fear. When I gain weight, I feel just as heavy as when I started before surgery.

    Diabetics

@@Msanita83 Enjoy your research phase of surgery. Here is an article on WLS and diabetes. Almost one third of patients are in remission or cured. http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/811284 I'm two years out and a type one diabetic. Pre surgery I had a high A1C and went into diabetic ketoacidosis. 8 days in intensive care unit, my internal organs systematically shut down. My heart stopped and Dr's brought me back. This was one of my main reasons to have surgery. Shortly after surgery I was off my long acting insulin. My A1C is in the non diabetic range. I'm really well controlled. I hardly use my short term insulin. Its amazing to get my health back.

    Newbie to gyms. Freaking out!

@@Raynbolite The majority of the people at the gym are normal people...They are just like you getting healthy. Only a few bikini models and hard core body builders It is intimidating at first. Here are a few tips: (1) Ask the staff what days and times have less people. Try to hit that time frame until your comfortable with they gym and the members. (2) Ask the staff to show you how to use the equipment correctly. (3) Get a great playlist on your cell phone and good head phones. Most people at the gym listen to music. I know it feels like everyone is focused on you. But, they are focused on their own health and workout. Get some great music. You will be keeping up to the beat without trying. (Pandora is a good app to try) (4) Get workout clothing you feel good and comfortable in. invest in some good tennis shoes. (5) Here is a workout data base. You pick the part of your body you want to work on it will list all types of exercises. It also shows a video of how to use the equipment. http://www.bodybuilding.com/exercises/ (6) Reading workout /weight loss information can give you motivation. http://www.bodybuilding.com/category/lose-fat
