    Protein Cookie?

I try to eat whole food most day's. But dang, I have a quest protein chip addiction. [I guess id rather just eat a regular cookie, which probably doesn't have anywhere near that level of carbs,]

    Thanks!

    Protein Cookie?

We are adults. We make our own choices. My instructions from my dietician. Add healthy carbs after I lost 75% of my weight. The carbs added are to slow or stop weight loss for maintenance phase. Surgeons offices seem to give different instructions. I was allowed quest bars by the dietician..Nutrition facts below.Note Bottom of label. Says 3 active carbs? I have no idea about that. Ingredients for my cookie below.
  4. @temkins I'm not pissy with your post. lol I'm pissy with the media. Please forgive my rant. [But at the same time I never forget, that celebrities are behavior models for many of us. That adds some extra responsibilities] I leave it to the medical professionals. They are responsible to inform, promote and educate the benefits of bariatrics. I would never take a celebrity's advice on anything. Most things I see from celebrities are unrealistic and deceptive I would hope celebrities are not role models. Air brushed and just as flawed as anyone else. We are sold we are not good enough. We need to be young, thin, live these amazing lives with lots of money. It's all about making money. Celebrity status is sold to society. (TMZ , movies, music artists,Kardashians sports figures) We are fed news articles, their product, their commercials. All to keep them relevant and in the public eye. [Many stars are advertising very questionable health and sports products,] Amen! How many times do you see infomercials, tabloids, workout equipment, magazine ads promising quick weight loss. We know it's all BS. [you just can't claim you are doing just sports if you did a VSG - others will be trying to do the same and obviously will fail, piling up depression and diffidence.] Yes, I can and do claim that I eat healthy and workout. ( All are true statements) I don't feel the need to share my personal experience about surgery with everyone. I'm not responsible for anyone's choices and emotions in life. My eyes roll every new years when the weight loss commercials start.

    Longest Sleeve Patient?

My two cents for whatever it's worth. I'm only 3 years 5 months out. No regrets. I bounced back from surgery quickly. My weight came off quickly. I'm healthy and in the best shape of my life for an old fart. Maintained well for the first 2 years. 3rd year battling a 10-15 pound gain back and forth. I can gain weight quickly and it's a snail's pace to get it back off. Always a risk of complications with any surgical procedure. Statistically is seems to be a low percentage. I only have one minor issue from my sleeve procedure. I have reactive hypoglycemia/low blood sugars. It's manageable. ( I'm not in hospice care with month to live... so, life is good.) Long term data and statistics have been an interesting thing. My local surgeons office is having problems collecting data because many patients stop coming in for appointments/check ups as they get further out from surgery. I just decided I didn't want to be a statistic. I'm responsible for my own outcome and success with weight loss.

When did I become this person?

Love that you are missing the gym. It's a strange thing to realize you are officially a health and fitness nut.

    Success 2-3 yrs post op?

I'm at the dreaded third year out. I can gain easily and the weight comes off much slower. After the gym I am seriously hungry. I eat a great healthy meal. Lots of protein. I still have days that I battle with head hunger and night snacking. I keep a tray of raw vegetables and dip in the refrigerator. I know it's head hunger when I try to talk myself into other options besides my vegetables. (1) are you just as hungry as you were before the surgery but can't eat as much? Hunger is not an ongoing never ending feeling for me. True hunger I eat my healthy meal the hunger subsides. I eat six small meals a day. I keep healthy options for salty and sweet cravings on hand. Head hunger sucks. It will pass. (2) Do you find that following same type of plan as nutritionist helps with hunger? The hunger you feel is manageable. High protein and vegetable fiber will help keep you feeling full. I follow my plan and I still feel hunger now and then. Sometimes it's I had forgotten to eat. Sometimes it's a craving/head hunger. (3) How tough is it too maintain? I maintained effortlessly in my first two years. My third year it has changed. I can eat off plan on a weekend and gain quickly. I get back on plan and the weight loss is slow. I have had a 10 to 15 pound gain that I constantly battle. If my weight goes up. I get back to eating basics and workout like a beast to get it back down. (4) Do most find that you don't lose past the honeymoon phase? Yes, I lost after the honeymoon phase. My honeymoon phase was the first months when the weight loss was fast and I had my best restriction from surgery. I had my first large stall in month three. Honeymoon phase was over. I realized that I had to put in the work to get to my goal. I keep hearing about how critical it is to maximize weight loss during the 1st year. Take advantage of your first golden year. You have your best restriction for faster weight loss. You can continue to lose after the year. The weight loss will be harder and slower.
  9. Many people that are not celebrities have chosen not to tell anyone. Why would celebs be held to a different standard?

Learning to run after bariatric surgery.

My first year of surgery I completed a 5K - This year completed my first full marathon. 26.2 On my 50th birthday, my goal is -Ultra marathon 50K (30 mike) http://saltflats100.com/ltptx3f0eimync5mvtvzhkf276mf66 I agree with the above. Start at a slow pace. I love couch25K. Don't forget to stretch and foam roll. Interval training (Jog 3 mins walk 3 mins repeat) This will build you up to sustained runs. My pace is improving. I added sprint intervals and strengthening my legs, glutes, abductors, itband and hip flexors with weight lifting. (I also do upper body work) Suggestions for bariatric runners: (not plugging products) Running hydration vest. The water holds tight to your body with less bounce. It has a bite straw to slowly drink water throughout your race. It's better than gulping down a styrofoam cup of water handed to runners along the route. Pockets to hold car keys, cell phone, debit cards and food to fuel your run. Click to see vest examples Running belt for shorter runs: hold car keys, cell phone, debit cards and food to fuel your run. Running belt example Never eat anything new to your system before or on the route. You may be racing to find each porta potty on the route due to an upset stomach. Running gels - Test them out to see if you can tolerate them. They are thick like molasses and sweet. Directions are to drink plenty of water with them. I don't use them. You will reach a point in your running that you will need to fuel you body like an athlete. ( I used a sports medicine dietician) Getting extra calories and carbs in can be interesting with a small stomach On the route foods - This will be trial and error to figure out what works for you. Meal bars. They may sit heavy on your stomach and bog down your run. Check your race event information. My last race handed out fruit and muffins along the route. May sit heavy Don't laugh. Baby food squeeze pouches. The tops twist on and off. Easy to carry no mess. Die hard nutrition runners make their own pureed recipe and use refillable baby food squeeze pouches. Hydration: I use nuun hydration tabs. https://nuunlife.com/

    Hello Again

I'm back. I'm looking to reconnect. BP looks a bit different. I am going to have to learn how to use the forum again. Three years out and I still feel blessed for having my life back. Maintaining for me is just as hard as weight loss phase. I'm in the 140's. Trying to get 15 pounds down. Losing weight is at a snail's pace. looking forward to meeting new patients. I also hope to see familiar veterans.
  14. I tend to get into ruts with my goto meals. I cook eggs, chicken fajitas no tortillas, Sweet apple chicken sausage. Crockpot white chicken chili and ground turkey meatloaf or burgers. I like to cook and try new foods. Nutrition should still be flavorful. But, I keep the comfort food and temptations out of my home. My dietician has some great recipes..Most are simple. http://insidekarenskitchen.com/bariatric-friendly-recipes/ My thanksgiving goto dishes.. Marinated roasted turkey breast no skin ( grill mates seasoning, apple cider vinegar, worcestershire and water.) Roasted pumpkin and apple. (cubed small sugar pumpkin, cubed apple. Drizzle of sugar free maple syrup. Bake on a cookie sheet) Fresh french green beans steamed, almond slices and a bit of bacon for taste. Pumpkin pie mousse: Vanilla or cheesecake sugar free pudding mix, fairlife milk, pumpkin puree, allspice and cinnamon. Scoop vanilla protein powder. (use half the amount of milk to make a thicker texture)
  15. Humm after weight loss surgery...I would have to lift my breasts by hand Just to place them out of my shirt.
  16. @DaleCruse When celebrities have WLS it raises awareness to the procedures. I love their before and after photos. @Sosewsue61 Holy hell judgmental.
  17. Had my surgery three years ago. I am still a well controlled type one diabetic. Having my healthy back is an amazing gift.

    Is there anything??

I'm not sure what specifics are going on in your situation. Are you pre - op? How far out from surgery are you? Are you having a stall or weight gain? Pre op. Not so sure you can do anything to make your stomach smaller. If this is a stall. Look up breaking the stall on this site. Stalls are normal. If you feel your stomach may be stretched, contact your surgeon's office. Many arguments out there about the ability of stretching your surgery . I won't touch on that. Clean you out? I've heard of people doing a diet cleanse to start over a diet. Look into it if you feel it will be beneficial to you. It's normal to be able to eat more as you get further out from surgery. The restriction is still there. It's just different. Kind of a reboot is going back through a liquid or soft food stage for a week... Helps to notice the volume you are able to hold and where you feel restriction at this point of your surgery. Go back to bariatric basics to continue weight loss I still log my food. I eat high protein andI add as much veggies as I want. It helps me to feel full. It keeps my calories down and my weight loss is back on track. Hope you are doing well, Jenn
  21. Something to be aware of. Reality is with any bariatric procedure, you will gain weight by eating "around your surgery" It's easy to eat several small meals throughout your day/night with no effect on feeling restriction pain. Grazing food will/can increase caloric intake and cause significant weight gain.

    Ring Size

Congratulations on your engagement. My ring size went from a nine to a five...Crazy.....Right? During weight loss phase my wedding set kept falling off. I went without wearing it for five months. I've been married so long that I felt naked without my rings. My husband had them resized for valentine's day. Thinking back, I wish I would have bought a inexpensive ring to wear for that five months.

    Hair loss

Yep, the six month post op hair falling out is normal. It will come back. My hair fell out and the texture changed. I tried vitamins Biotin etc... They did not work for me. I had to wait it out. (Not plugging a products) The only exception I found that has helped my hair texture was Hask argan oil repair shine oil vial. I use it at night from root to tip. Shampoo and condition as normal in the morning. Somedays I put a small amount in my hair in the morning. Another that I use is nioxin level 4 shampoo for noticeably thinning hair.

    Scared this won't work

I got to goal less than a year. With this process never compare your rate of weight loss with anyone else. It will make you crazy..lol All of us have different body physiology. We lose at different rates. It's not a race. It's not how fast it's the fact you are losing weight.
