Brain hasn’t caught up with body
Healthy_life2 replied to CocoNina's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It messes with your mind for a while. Especially if you have been overweight several years. Some of us get our body image corrected with time. Some have used counseling and still work thourgh it. Be gentle with yourself. Give it time. -

Congrats on over two years out! No complaints and I'm healthy. I'm amazed to be this small and considered athletic. At my age if I get a second glance from a guy it makes my day. My weight loss libido is still there.

How do you view overweight people now that your thin?
Healthy_life2 replied to doxaholic's topic in The Lounge
Nothing but compassion for people that have weight issues. I have walk in the shoes of an obese person. I never want to lose that perspective in life. It would turn me away from WLS if someone came up to me preaching how I need to do this. Most people don't want weight loss advice.....Especially from a bariatric patient. -
Gaining Weight!!!!!

It's good to use the fear of weight gain to keep you on track. You are working your plan. The scale will move in your favor again. -
3month post op and already back to my bad habits.
Healthy_life2 replied to admrn's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm responding with words I've had to tell myself over and over. None of us are perfect at this. The important thing is not to beat yourself down. Get back on the horse quickly. Don't let one bad day turn into weeks and months of bad choices. I want to stress, use your first year of surgery restriction to your advantage. It is your best weight loss phase. Don't waste it! Your weight loss will slow down and get harder to lose as time passes. When you find yourself tempted or actively eating off plan.... Try to remember this. You have two choices. The pain of discipline or the pain of regret. -
50 pounds gone forever!!! Congratulations...Never have doubts... look at all you have done already. Take this opportunity wherever you want it to go. Celebrate!!!!!

Question for WLS veterans
Healthy_life2 replied to psyance's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your diet will transition as you approach maintenance phase. You will be adding healthy carbs to slow/stop your weight loss. Maintaining is a balance. (I'm three years out) If I choose to indulge in dessert carbs sugar etc. I will see a gain on the scale. I put more time in at the gym. If I have a larger gain I go back to the bariatric basics to get the scale to move. Side note: I also distance run. Training and running I can't eat like a bariatric patient. I eat like an athlete. My calories and carbs are increased with healthy foods. A smaller stomach means eating several small meals to reach my new calories protein and carb goals.. Once running season is over...Back to lower maintenance calories. -
No one should go into any surgery blind. Researching, educating yourself and a psych eval will benefit anyone considering bariatrics. I'm three years out and no regrets. I have not lost my ability to choose what I eat. I can eat anything but, to stay successful I choose to eat healthy.

Electronic weight loss program recommendations?
Healthy_life2 replied to CaliforniaCandy's topic in The Lounge
Myfitnesspal. I'm old school. It tracks food. Graph shows your progress. Helps meet and see if you hit your calorie and macronutrient goals (protien etc) Tracks your exercise including syncing fitbit, map my run or map my walk...I'm sure their are more, It will graph for the week or month of meeting your calories and macros. You can leave your food log open for others to see, Or keep it private ( I keep mine open.) At the end of the day you submit and it tells you if everyday was like today you would weigh (calculates what you would weigh based on your food and exercise) gives me motivation to stay on track. It also has a forum for many categories bariatrics, vegan, keto, fitness weightlifting etc. you can friend and message.....They are amazing people that are motivated inspiring, and positive. -

What is your favorite part of weight loss?
Healthy_life2 replied to 1234567890's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My perks from weight loss: The girls look better. My boobs no longer rest on the shelf of my belly . I have visible collar bones. I discovered I'm an adrenaline junkie. It gives me a high when younger people under estimate my running ability. I turn into a competitive bad ass when they step up to race me on the treadmill /the track at my gym. Game on! I'm usually dressed down in jeans and fitness gear. At work appropriate for the situation. I love to dress a bit on the sexy side for date nights. -
Surgery Scares...how many do YOU have and how much of them vanish
Healthy_life2 replied to Tanyatata's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm laughing at myself because I never looked to see them before. Here I am in front of my computer lifting my shirt...I had four surgery incisions and the drain. They are not noticeable. No lotions...Just faded on their own. True story and a side note: Guy newly out from surgery. He was taking off his shirt in a locker room. He still had tape and his incisions were noticeable.. Two guy's asked "what happened?" He look at them and said. "Knife fight" -
What is a non-food activity your REALLY looking forward to?
Healthy_life2 replied to celticNgel's topic in The Gals' Room
I know I out further but I'm enjoying all of your posts. (1) easier to paint my toenails and shave my legs (2)) Sitting in a booth at a restaurant. My boobs no longer rest on the table. Weird to have space around me now. (3) the increased sex drive. (4) holy hell clothing addiction. I'm 49 years old. I had to learn just because it fit's may not be age appropriate for me..lol Date night with hubby Hell ya it's sexy dress and heels. I don't care what people think. My husband say's I'm is arm candy for the night. -

Grocery / eating out expenses decrease significantly?
Healthy_life2 replied to sleeveme7781's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When you can eat less it show on the grocery bill. Eating at a restaurant, Sometimes I order a regular sized meal. (healthy choices) I eat the leftovers so I don't have to cook the next day or days.lol If you are still feeding a family..You might not see a big change. -
When can I have alternative flours ie almond coconut etc
Healthy_life2 replied to Mhy12784's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would ask you dietician if this is on your plan. Nuts are high in calories, My dietician allows 7 almonds as a snack in weight loss phase. I have to laugh, That's a pretty specific number counting out 7 almonds. 1oz (23 almonds) = 163 calories 1 oz jiffy peanut butter =167 calories (it's why i use PB2 lower calories)
