Opinions to stop losing weight
Healthy_life2 replied to BrandiceLeSha's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It's an adjustment for them. I understand that its bothers you to hear "don't lose more weight" It may be out of concern or it may be a compliment. Reassure them you are healthy. It will pass with time once you are maintaining. It's hard enough for us to wrap our heads around the weight loss. Some of the comments kind of mess with your head a bit. I went to a check up at my surgeon's office. The nurse comment "if you gained 10 more I would look less skeletal" I was at goal 140 and a healthy BMI. -
Already getting my bucket list together for 2018. 1st on my list is Race to robie creek. Elevation endurance half marathon. The starting line is at just above 2,500 feet above sea level, and runners reach an elevation of about 4,700 feet above sea level. 2nd is to start hiking to give my knees a rest from running. I'm looking for new fitness activities to conquer.

To the original poster..This may be a bit off your topic. Just for bariatric motivation...This woman is amazing! not saying anyone should take bariatrics as far she has. Lyss Remaly - Bariatric motivational speaker -
Best exercise for front of thighs?
Healthy_life2 replied to Lovin2lose's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Many of us have medical issues that need to be cleared by a professional. I'd hate to see anyone get injured from working out. I have scoliosis and arthritis in my back, hips and knees. I have experienced benefits in strength training...But, It's not for everyone. It's not all about gaining definition and looking like a fitness model... Strength training not only builds stronger muscles, but also builds stronger connective tissues and increases joint stability. This acts as reinforcement for the joints and helps prevent injury. A recent 12-year study showed that strengthening the low-back muscles had an 80 percent success rate in eliminating or alleviating low-back pain. Other studies have indicated that weight training can ease the pain of osteoarthritis and strengthen joints. Studies performed by Wayne Westcott, PhD, from the South Shore YMCA in Quincy, Massachusetts, found that the average woman who strength trains two to three times a week for two months will gain nearly two pounds of muscle and will lose 3.5 pounds of fat. As your lean muscle increases so does your resting metabolism, and you burn more calories all day long. Generally speaking, for each pound of muscle you gain, you burn 35 to 50 more calories each day. That can really add up. Researchers also found that unlike men, women typically don't gain size from strength training, because compared to men, women have 10 to 30 times less of the hormones that cause muscle hypertrophy. You will, however, develop muscle tone and definition. This is a bonus. https://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/franco7.htm -

Weighs at the gym are exactly what you don't want to do. I disagree. -

Fantastic you are down 105! Ask your Dr if he wants to limit you from any types of workouts due to arthritis. Most of us have medical and pain issues. If you are released to strength train there are many benefits for women. My two cents ---take what is useful and ignore the rest All of us carry weight differently. We have no control if it's in your midsection, butt or legs etc. Working out just one muscle or body part won't get you results you are looking for. With any exercise cardio or weightlifting start slow. It will progress with time as you gain strength. I did a combination of cardio and strength training at 254 pounds. 30 mins to an hour Walking and elliptical ( easier on my knees) second 30 mins to an hour of weightlifting The gym set me up with a beginner all over body weight lifting workout. As your lean muscle increases so does your resting metabolism, and you burn more calories all day long. Generally speaking, for each pound of muscle you gain, you burn 35 to 50 more calories each day. That can really add up. After 30 we all start to lose muscle. Building and keeping muscle mass is going to make a difference as we age.......Yes, think down the road. What quality of life do you want as a senior citizen? You will only get "Bulky" on steroids or a seriously controlled nutrition and training program. Read link below 10 reasons why women should lift. https://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/franco7.htm lose body fat reduce your risk of osteoporosis gain strength without bulking up reduce your risk of injury, back pain and arthritis Reduce your risk of heart disease and diabetes Helps fight depression. -
I always asked if I was on track at my follow up appointments. My surgeon's office never gave weight loss averages to patients because we all lose at different rates. After looking at this I realize my weight loss was crazy fast.. Starting weight 254. I lost 115 in six months.

I don't think shakes would resize your pouch. It just helps you feel your restriction again. Same thing as the pouch reset diet.

I also had a gain in my 3rd year. Here are some things to try. (just suggestions) Where to start? Start now or on Jan 1st 2018 for new years! You can get the weight back down to maintain. Weight loss is slower as you get further out from surgery. Weight loss takes work. We have two choices. Go through the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. Get back to the rules (bariatric basics) log food hit calorie ,protein goals and low carb (whatever your surgeons plan is) drink lots of water exercise If basics are not working this is something to try: Goto the TDEE calculator below https://tdeecalculator.net/ It will calculate your calories, protein and carbs based on your sex, height, weight, and activity level. (don't enter body fat) click [CALCULATE] This will give you your maintenance calories on the top right. Scroll down to macro nutrients You will see three tabs [maintaining] [cutting] bulking] Click [CUTTING] It will show your cutting/weight loss calories Below you will see three macorutien boxes with three carbohydrate ratios Start with the low carb macros. Set these new macros into your food log app (myfitnesspal) it will take dialing in your macros to see what point your body starts to lose weight. (I had to set my exercise level on step below my real activity level to get macros for my body to lose weight loss) Merry christmas!

Eating months after the surgery
Healthy_life2 replied to TexasMommy80's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Horror stories???? Losing weight by eating slowly and having portion control for life scares you? Glad you are doing your research. What type of surgery are you considering? Once you alter your stomach with surgery you can't get it back. You will not be able to eat large amounts of food, binge, or eat fast. Changing these behaviors is going to make your weightloss successful long term. The first few months your stomach is healing..You will only get in small amounts of food. You will progress in stages of food. (google bariatric food stages) You will be able to eat more food volume and calories as you get further out from surgery. But, nothing like pre surgery. I'm three years out..My day of food can look like this. Breakfast :Half an omelette. Filled with tomato mushrooms and one piece bacon Lunch: 4 to 5oz smoked salmon cup of dole bag salad Snack: Quest protein BBQ chips. 2(oz) mozzarella cheese 3 oz salsa Dinner 4 oz chicken. 1 cup stir fry vegetables. Teriyaki sauce. Two pieces BBQ pork with hot asian mustard. Snacks 6 Strawberries dipped in hershey's sugar free chocolate syrup. If I still feel hungry before bed I might eat raw veggies and dip..or cottage cheese. -

This is your golden first year. Fight for what you want out of this surgery. The first few months of restriction is your best weight loss. Don't waste it! Your weightloss is going to slow down with time. Sometimes it's not excitement that motivates me. When I recognize I'm going back to old habits I need a slap to the head of perspective..lol Days that you don't want to exercise. When you justify eating bad choices...When you flat out don't want to do this because its hard..... Remind yourself: There is a cancer patient out there with three months to live that would trade places with you for weightloss struggles There is a person in a wheelchair and would love to be in your position to be able to go for a walk A wounded warrior is at the gym this winter. Hes learning to run a on a new prosthetic leg for a distance run in april. We all have struggles to overcome in life! A big part of surgery is dealing with the old mindset and behaviors. -
Worried I’m abusing my sleeve - 5 weeks post op / 2 week stall
Healthy_life2 replied to Once Upon a Sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You are four weeks out. Congratulations on your weight loss. I can tolerate anything with my sleeve. It really shows you that surgery restricted calories alone does not get the weight off. It's the food choices I make. For me logging has been a big part of my success with WLS. There is no way I can guess my calories, protein and carbs. I use myfitnesspal to log food. you can add recipes with multiple ingredients. Stalls will happen...Read breaking the stall below. https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/351046-embrace-the-stall/#comment-3952027 -

Dense Protein Idea----Salmon or Tuna Packets
Healthy_life2 replied to Walter.Sobchak's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Might want to get clarification of what the psyc considers organic True story, My neighbor is a genuine hippie from the 60's. Grinds her stevia, makes almond milk, deodorant and lotions to avoid chemicals. We will just say she prefers pot over prescribed pharmaceutical medications..I love her. Organic meats and veggies are found in most stores. It's not that big of a deal for me to eat mostly organic. How you fuel your body will make you feel so much better. -
Did your spouse's weight change after YOUR surgery?
Healthy_life2 replied to Polly Pocket's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am envious he can eat anything and maintain his weight. He eats healthier because I cook. He rolls his eyes when I get excited and quote how much protien he's getting in with a meal. He still can eat half a cherry pie and a large meal with no change in weight. Ugh kills me. -
Don't worry about the rate you lose weight. It's more important that the weight is coming off. The goal is healthy! Congratulations on 40 pounds. I am assuming at 5.5 months you already know your food and exercise instructions. Keep working them and moving forward.

Dense Protein Idea----Salmon or Tuna Packets
Healthy_life2 replied to Walter.Sobchak's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
My rambling two cents on this..lol Wow, food can be so political ...right? What's healthy this week may change next week (example is cooking with coconut oil) It is beneficial to eat clean and organic. I can go on and on about how messed up the food industry is. Additives to prolong shelf life, additives that cause addiction to a food product to make money. How clean you want your diet to be is up to you. Clean meaning more organic whole foods...chemical, hormone free and non processed. My personal decision on how clean my diet is........ I eat tuna packets. It's a solid protein choice. Any stevia that is store bought is extracted and processed. Still is a good choice for a sugar free substitute. It's not 100% clean eating. You can grow your own stevia plant, harvest and dry the leaves. Grind them in a coffee grinder. You can grind almonds and extract the almond milk. I don't have that kind of time and discipline. -
What can possibly go wrong?
Healthy_life2 replied to bellabloom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Before surgery, I remember rolling my eyes at the skinny person that would complain about needing to lose 10 to 15 pounds. It annoyed the hell out of me. I Just realized I am now that annoying person complaining about a small gain. Intuitive eating, I just pulled up information on it. So far it looks great.
