    SLEEVE HELP regarding hunger hormones

Your surgeon knows your medical issues and medications you take. You might want to discuss what type of surgery would work best for you. The average weight loss is 60% of your excess weight with the sleeve. My experience, hunger does not go away with surgery. First stages, hunger is less. As you progress out you will notice you can eat more in food volume. You will have real and head hunger.

    Stomach flab.

@lori1963 Will this diet get rid of your stomach area? Yes and no You will lose weight and pant sizes. If you hold your weight in your stomach area you may have loose skin to deal with after weight loss. insurance may help cover plastics if you have documented rashes or mobility issues.
  6. Healthy_life2

    Did you lose shoe sizes?

Yep, Shoe sizes changes. I also had to resize my wedding set and my necklaces are smaller chain length.
  7. Wow, I see myself in much of what she said. I still have a chip on my shoulder how society views obesity/my body as unacceptable. Who am I now after weight loss? I have the same core values that I had pre-surgery, I have a warped sense of humor that I never want to lose. I can do all the things that my weight stopped me from doing. My health and outlook on life is better. I don’t see much changing in society. The medias standard of beauty makes me angry. It's more messages that we are not enough. The world is full of judgmental people. After weight loss, you will be judged on other things besides weight.

When did you stop using shakes?

I use them for on the run quick meals. I keep meal bars in my car for emergencies when I can’t get a meal in. Once I could hit my protein goal with real food, I took them out of my diet. (instructed by my dietician)

Wish I never let sweets back in

I am not a fan of shakes and bars. They never keep me full. I can consume healthy whole foods, keep within my calories and feel more satisfied. (make sure my suggestions fit your plan) Sweet: I eat my meal first and then I dip strawberries or apple in Sugar free Hershey’s cholate or Carmel syrup. Eating my meal first keeps my fruit in smaller portions. Dannon light N fit yogurt. Love the Carmel apple pie flavor. Great calories and protein count. Salad greens, shredded chicken, berries with skinny girl raspberry vinaigrette (Optional a bit of crumbled blue cheese and deiced pecans) Salty: Jerky, chicken fajitas or taco salad (no tortilla) Scrambled egg or egg whites. with jimmy dean turkey sausage, green peppers and onion. Tip egg whites are lower calorie and higher protein count. Fills more space in your sleeve and no guilt. lol This is my dietician’s recipe website for food ideas: https://insidekarenskitchen.com/recipes/bariatric-friendly-recipes/

Wish I never let sweets back in

Once you add sugars and carbs back in your diet, you crave them more. Ugh it's difficult to detox off it and start over. I have to kick my discipline in and accept that I am going to feel crappy and cranky for a while until it’s out of my system. I get temptation out of the house I keep healthy sweet and salty options on hand I set goals and join weight loss challenges for motivation and accountability I log my crappy choices.
  11. People respond to your positivity and increased self-confidence. Healthy is seen as attractive. It’s sad that I feel more valued in society because I am at a healthy weight. I see a difference in how I’m treated. A few things I experienced. Some positive: Strangers look me in the eye and smile more I’ve had attention from the opposite sex, Unnerving at first when you have been invisible. Men hold doors open more often Sales people seem more helpful I’m excepted as a part of the fit gym crowd. Many do not know I was formerly obese. Job opportunity’s/promotions have been offered. Some negative: Some close friends no longer associate with me. It reminds them of their own struggles. I have been judged by a few people in my local support group. (stopped going) I fell in the lower BMI category. Comments. “you didn’t have to work as hard” “working out/running as much as you do is an eating disorder” “if you gained some weight you would look less skeletal” An unsupportive family member “you know you’re just going to gain it back” She is my motivation to never gain it back. Years out, life becomes normal. I don’t notice how differently I’m treated anymore. The compliments and focus on your weight loss are over.

    Goal Weight

210 pounds is amazing. You can keep losing if you want. You already know how to do this. The only thing that gets rid of loose skin is plastics. You are almost a year out. It's up to you if you want to add exercise to help you lose more weight. working out will compliment your weight loss and give you results. Like you said " I don't know what my body is capable of" You are stonger than you give yourself credit for.

    Protein shakes

Most of us have a diet progression. This is to let your stomach heal after surgery. (Liquids, puree, soft foods, real foods) Most people struggle to get their protein goal (60 to 100 grams) with protein shakes in the first stages. you are two years out, Right? Hope you’re doing well and staying healthy,

Can I afford the post-op diet?

You won’t be dependent on protein shakes long term. You will use them in your first food stages after surgery because your sleeve restriction is tight. Real food phase, you will be able to hit your protein goal (60-100grams) without shakes. Your first food stages liquids, puree and soft foods won’t be very exciting. Easy to shop for. Something to try pre-surgery. Make a grocery list with foods allowed on your real food dieticians plan. Keep it simple. No processed foods. What is the cost to purchase protein sources? (eggs, dairy, beans, sea food/fish, poultry, pork, beef, soy) How expensive is it to buy fresh or frozen fruits and vegies in small amounts? How expensive are spices, olive oil, marinades? Cook meals at home. Keeps cost down with no hidden calories. Freeze left overs in small bags/containers for meals later Look up bariatric friendly recipes. (make sure they fit your plan and calories and macros for the day) Use a food log app. Bariatastic or myfitnesspal. https://www.bariatriccookery.com/recipes-2 https://insidekarenskitchen.com/recipes/bariatric-friendly-recipes/ https://www.pinterest.com/bariatricfoodie/pins/

    Loosing too much weight

Have talked with your surgeon office yet? I'm sorry to hear about your complications. I hope your doing well Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. My surgeon had me walking the day after surgery (It helps in the healing process) I continued to walk after I was home from surgery. Each surgeons’ instructions are a bit different. Your Dr. will release you for lifting and exercise. After you are healed, you will absolutely be able to get into activity/exercise of your choice. Start slow and work your way up. What did my post op work outs look like? My goal after surgery was to run race for the cure 5K in memory of my mother. I started walking 30 mins and worked it to an hour a day for the first three weeks. Third month I had a major stall. I sold my treadmill and bought a gym member ship. Third month: I did weight lifting with an hour of cardio 5 days a week. I mixed icardio up on elliptical, treadmill, stairmaster and treadmill. I took a women’s lifting class. What I learned is too much cardio will slow down building muscle. I altered my workout program. My workouts have changed and evolve over the years. I am 50. I love being a bad ass grandmother. You never know where your weight loss can take you. We are all stronger than we give ourselves credit for. I have completed 5K to a full marathon. Last year, I ran two mountain elevation/ trail half marathons. This year my bucket list run is Revel Mt. Charleston in Las Vegas. Find exercise/activity’s you enjoy and be consistent!

    Weight or volume?

I agree with logging, weighing, keeping your meals within volume. You posted this in the sleeve section. With the sleeve, You will be able to consume more food as you progress out from surgery. It will be noticable when you experience this for yourself. Your sleeve has not stretched to full size. (if you think it has stretched get it diagnosed by a surgeon) Sleeve pouches are banana shaped. RNY/Bypass are an egg-shaped pouch. You may need to develop strategies to fill the extra food volume/capacity to keep hunger down without going over your calories and macro's. Wishing you the best, Jenn

    ...

I'm saying this out of concern.. You asked, "should I go to the ER" If You are not sure this is a medical emergency. I guess you can decide to go get medical attention after post's about the same symptoms with bypass.
  23. For me it was more than my resting metabolic rate and total daily energy expenditure (TDEE) . The calories/macros are not a one size fits all. Body physiology, medical issues, age, hormones and medications can change your weight loss/maintaining calories and macros. It took me some trial and error to dial in what works for me. I had to go by the calories recommended and then dial them back by 100cals to see where my body starts losing weight. Dial them up again to see where I maintain. TDEE was way off. It set my maintenance calories to 1,925 Weight loss calories 1,426

  25. Congrats on 105! Glad you’re doing therapy to help with binge eating. Are you looking at pouch rest for a weight gain? or behavior change? Pouch reset is basically going back through your food progression. (Liquids, soft and real food) It may help with surgery restriction. Some feel it’s too restrictive. Some go back to real food basics. Months/years out, you can consume more food. This is normal with the sleeve. (it has not stretched back to normal size) It's unnerving when you experience this for yourself. Weight gain seems easy. losing is slow. You may have less body fat to burn. This will make weight loss slow. Finding strategies to fill/satisfy your new sleeve compacity. It’s important to log and stay within your weight loss/maintaining calories and macros. Eat dense protein Eat as much veggies as you want until full Carbs and sugar will make you crave more of the, Keep healthy sweet and salty options on hand. Get temptation foods out of the house.
