No weight loss

Embrace the stall -
I agree we are bombarded with weight loss Information and online forums to beat weight loss, diet, surgery, fitness, eating disorders and body image into the ground. Wow, I don’t see many of these topics and being a closeted subjects. To each there own about disclosing WLS. Some may want to shout the lifesaving benefits of WLS to the world. Others may simply be private people that keep their medical info to themselves. Some of us share with only people that are honestly interested. No need to beat your head against the wall with the many people that have negative opinions on WLS. Are we lacking in getting the word out on WLS? No – Google it! About 253,000,000 results (0.65 seconds) TV shows: Many discussing weight, WLS, my 600 pound life, Celebrities sharing there WLS experience, skin removal, diet, eating disorders, exercise, body positivity. Social media: Drs and hospitals advertising WLS, Instagram, bloggers, bariatric recipe site, pod casts, fitness and food log apps, YouTube and forums including bariatricpal. How many of these accounts are WLS patients and professionals? With all this information out there, Many of us don’t feel the need to be the weight loss or weight loss surgery spokesperson. Its not all about shame.. Side note: How many sites and forums on the topc of sex...LOL its a choice on how open you want to be on that topic as well.

Many of us are busy and have crazy schedules. Now that we are getting into warmer weather, walking outside will help lift your mood. Workout videos, hand weights in your home or new/used exercise equipment. Bike/elliptical…Start slow and build on your fitness level as you progress. When you’re not working on the weekends plan to get more activity/exercise in. Do it even when it sucks. Make it a new habit. Use it to calm your stress or replace stress, emotions and eating out of boredom. Once you make it a habit. It becomes a normal and for me enjoyable. (never thought I would say that in life) Sometimes its perspective not motivation: A person with cancer that has three months to live would gladly trade places with us for our weight loss and exercise struggles. We get this second chance in life to lose weight and get healthy. Put everything into this first year. You wont regret it. This motivational video is a bit hard core but some days I need it

We all make our own choices. Check your plan. Your surgery restriction is tight right out from surgery. It's going to be hard enough to consume your protein goal. My dieticians’ instructions are no soda in weight loss mode. Years out, yes, I have a carbonated beverage occasionally. I really don’t do soda as a norm and I don't miss it.

Post op 13 yrs & maintaining
Healthy_life2 replied to rperchard's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Fabulous maintaining 13 years out. I'm glad you found an approach that works for you. Maintaining is still some work. You gave the best advice ever - Don’t wait for a 20/40/50+ gain. Its easier to manage a small weight bounce range the to try to get back on track after a large gain. Congratulations. -
How’d you Choose? Sleeve v.s. Bypass?

Nothing easy about any type of bariatric porcedure. They all take work. I had the sleeve in 2014 - I got to goal in six months which is not the norm according to the statistics.

Does your surgeon’s office offer a seminar on all the different types of surgeries? I would start there. Check with your insurance and your surgeon to see if they require pre surgery weight loss. Average weight loss: 50% of your weight with Lap Band surgery https://www.obesitycoverage.com/weight-after-lap-band-surgery 60% of your weight with gastric sleeve https://www.obesitycoverage.com/weight-loss-surgeries/gastric-sleeve/gastric-sleeves-how-much-weight-will-i-lose 70% of your weight with gastric bypass https://www.obesitycoverage.com/weight-loss-surgeries/gastric-bypass/how-much-can-i-expect-to-lose LAP BAND SUCCESS RATE 47% GASTRIC SLEEVE SUCCESS RATE 80% GASTRIC BYPASS SUCCESS RATE 85% DUODENAL SWITCH SUCCESS RATE 95% Data Sources: PubMed: Quick fix or long-term cure? Improved health, less medication and health issues are resolved. Shop for a new company with better rates. I had no problem mentioning I was looking for better rates to my long-standing insurance company. All the sudden they wanted to try to compete for my business. They did not make the cut. lol

Congrats on all your hard work and weight loss. I'm a sleeve. I can consume more food years out. Some things to try years out from surgery. Pouch reset. Its going back to liquids and progressing back out to real food. For some, it works. For others, liquids cause more hunger and sabotage getting back into healthy habits. The sensation of restriction can be short lived. logging food and staying within your weight loss calories and macros. (Just because you can consume more food years out, does not mean that you must) Join a weight loss challenge to stay on track and support. https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/423360-❤march-2019-challenge❤/ Dealing with hunger: Eat as much vegetables as you like with your protein until full. The bulk and fiber are low calorie and will help with hunger Keep heathy sweet and salty items on hand Clear your house of temptation. (Carbs and sugar can make you to crave them more) Real whole food will keep you more satisfied. Shakes/bars are good when you are busy or emergency food, Liquids and bars go right through my stomach and never keep me full. -

All surgeons plans look different. Call your dietician to get your carb, protein, fat and calorie counts -
Are you pre op? If so, don’t invest too much or over stock protein shakes. Your taste buds may change after surgery. The good thing is you won’t be drinking them forever. Shakes are for the first stages when your restriction is tight. You will go on to real food and won’t need them. Another option to have on hand is zero carb Isopure protein drink/ water. Its hydration and protein all in one. It’s also not a thick as shakes. 160 calories 40 grams protein 0 carb https://www.amazon.com/Natures-Best-Isopure-Variety-bottles/dp/B00J5HKOK0 You can always buy vanilla shakes and add thing to them for a variety of flavors. Vanilla protein powder or premade shake. - Decaffeinated coffee with sugar fee Hershey’s cholate syrup - Vanilla protein powder or premade shake - pumpkin puree with apple pie spice Vanilla protein powder or premade shake - Torani sugar free syrups Vanilla protein powder or premade shake - Sugarfree Hershey’s cholate syrup with PB2

Congrats! Fantastic results from all the work you put in. Maintaining is a different animal. Keep us posted. Sorry to hear you are feeling weak. (Happens to some of us) We tend to lose muscle with the rapid weight loss. Exercise is a personal choice for each of us. Sadly, my metabolism is shot. Exercise throughout this process kept me in weight loss mode. 😀 I'm an old fart and in the best shape of my life. Wishing you the best in the months and years to come, Jenn -
7 month PO going on 2 months stalled

Woo hoo! Fantastic that the scale is moving. Shakes might be contributing to hunger. Real food may help you feel more satiated. Protein Shakes are for the first stages when your restriction is tight. They are not meant to be in our diets long term. They go right through your stomach and leave you feeling hungry. Logging takes practice. It will help you see what a day of food can look like and still stay with in your macros. Glad you checked back in. You got this! -
Its good to ask questions. Many people are told hunger is 100% gone. It’s a great post to help others looking in to surgery. Never be afraid to post. I'm excited for all the things coming your way. You will be on the other side of weight loss soon.

@Kristinqtpie Congrats on your surgery date. Only speaking from my experience with the sleeve. I’m almost 5 years out. Hunger is a different sensation after surgery. First out from surgery your hunger may feel less. Understand that surgery does not take away hunger 100%. You will still experience it. Hunger is more manageable post-surgery. You will have a new sensation of full. You will learn to manage real and head hunger. What sleeves should know as you progress out. Our pouches are banana shaped. (Other surgeries are egg shaped) Expect that your restriction will become less over time. ( It has not grown back to full size) You are not doomed to gain weight. Many mistake less restriction with stretching (Stretching is rare. Get it diagnosed by your surgeon) With your extra stomach room, there is no reason to eat extra calories and gain weight. You can still eat food without going over your weight loss/maintaining calories. Many of us are willing to share strategies to help with hunger and extra sleeve room. Grazing / eating around your surgery can happen to any type of bariatric procedure. Eating small meals frequently that total over your weight loss calories and macros. This can be in a combination of healthy and unhealthy foods. The sensation is as if you never had surgery. You will gain weight. Many of us fear weight gain. Work your plan. Dont be afraid to ask for help if you do experience a gain. Best of luck to you, Jenn
