Overtraining & Stalls???? Frustrated.....
Healthy_life2 replied to GansettRam74's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I may be the old chick in the room, But I’m still amazed at how transforming weightlifting and gaining muscles has been. I had a hard time in my first year to build muscle. It got better after my weight loss slowed down. -
**laughing at myself** I had a tattoo done when I was in my 20's. After weight loss, my tat is smaller and more colorful.

HUNGER MONSTER HAS RETURNED WITH A VENGEANCE
Healthy_life2 replied to shoregirl75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here are a few things to try to satisfy your hunger. (Make sure any of my examples fit your plan) Log your food and stay within your calories and macros. (Myfitnesspal or baritastic) Get temptation foods out of your home Once you add real sugars and extra carbs you crave them more. They cause hunger. Detox off them. If you deprive sweet and salty cravings, you will want them more. Keep healthy options for salty and sweet cravings in your house. Salty: chicken fajitas without the tortilla, jerky, quest protein chips. Sweet: Dannon light n fit Greek yogurt, Strawberries dipped in sugar free cholate syrup, sugar free popsicles or jello. Eat dense protein sources with the other foods on your plan. Eat as much clean wonderful veggies as you want until full. Ditch protein shakes and bars. (they are god for emergencies when you can’t get to a meal) Real whole foods will keep you feeling more satisfied. I Eat five/six small meals or every two to three hours - Log keep within your calories and macros for the day*** don’t turn this into grazing over your calories. You will gain weight** Head hunger and snacking – Distract yourself, go for a walk, read a book or listen to a podcast on weight loss mental battles. Keep a veggie tray in the refrigerator. Allow yourself to snack on veggies. If you try to bargain with yourself for other options, you know its head hunger. -
Sleeve is the most performed surgery. It’s the flavor of the month. I’m concerned if its being performed like a surgery mill. I would love your feedback. Please give the date you had surgery and State or country you had the procedure done: Questions for sleeves: Do you feel you were given enough information on this procedure pre op and post op? Did they explain that you will still feel real and head hunger with any surgery procedure? Or tell you hunger will go away? Did they give you clear instructions on how to work your plan? Was the psych evaluation just a hoop to jump through? Would you have benefited doing more therapy before surgery? Were your follow up appointments with your surgeons and dietician helpful? Did you understand that you can gain weight back? Did they help with a list of instructions and things to do and not to do? If you had regain, did you contact your team and were they helpful?

Foodies - honestly how bad is it?
Healthy_life2 replied to Ruth9454's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Straight talk…Get a copy of your surgeons/directions plan and food progression for clarification. You need to know if this is something you can stick to. You have to want this enough to change. I hope you go into this with realistic expectations. Just because a few people on this site can eat anything and not gain weight does not mean that will be your personal experience. Many don’t keep the weight off long term eating what they want and relying on restriction alone. If you eat off plan and notice it slows/stops your weight loss you many need to stick to your dietician food plan. (read all the posts on regain and revision) I’m five years out. I maintain in the 130’s. I had to work for this. I followed my plan. I was consistent not perfect. I got to goal in six months ( not the norm with the sleeve) How bad is it if you enjoy food? I love food and I don’t feel deprived. I enjoy trying new recipes and ingredients. I make healthy versions of old favorites. I go to restaurants and social events. It easy to find protein and veggies and other items on my plan that keep me in weight loss mode. I also stay within my weight loss/ maintaining calories and macros. Your diet will change when you go into maintenance mode. You will be adding more carbs and can indulge within reason. Stomach issues: Most sleeves can tolerate anything without dumping syndrome (sleeve surgery intestines are not altered) Other surgeries once sugar hits the intestine they dump. Only my opinion. If you can’t control sugar and food choices, the sleeve many not be a good fit for you. -

What To Eat When The Honeymoon Wears Off - OAC
Healthy_life2 replied to FluffyChix's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My honeymoon was over at three months out. I had a stall. It was that moment when I realized much of WLS is the work I put into it. Years out, the scale is no longer a motivator. Life is normal. All the things listed in the article are habit for me. -
13 months post op and struggling with nutrition
Healthy_life2 replied to lissa5974's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on 90 down! I’m years out. I had to dial in my weight loss calories and macros using my food app. If you are interested in how to dial it in, let me know. It will be specifically to where your body starts losing weight. -
You can call your surgeons office and discuss why he/she has given you this requirement.

I have a "would you rather' question
Healthy_life2 replied to jasmineinmymind's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I fall on the side of I’m able to tolerate EVERYTHING, like almost feel normal. No nausea, no dumping, no food stuck, no intolerance. I‘m maintaining and five years out. I know how to keep my weight in range. I indulge within reason and live life. But, I know my weakness and must deal with them. Just because we can eat more and tolerate everything does not mean we have to overeat our calories and macros. Make a choice, Work at this life long or don’t be mindful and gain weight. You said “once that’s over am I back to square one with weight loss struggles??” Define what your struggles are and work on them. We are not all doomed to regain Keep an eye on the scale. Don’t let a small gain take off on you. If you gain weight get back on track. -

***Qustions for Sleevers***
Healthy_life2 replied to Healthy_life2's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would love your feedback. Please give the date you had surgery and State or country you had the procedure done: June 2014 Idaho Questions for sleeves: Do you feel you were given enough information on this procedure pre op and post op? I had my pre op seminar. They were excellent in going over all the type of surgeries. The positives and down sides of each. My surgeon and I went over which surgeries would fit my medical issues best. Did they explain that you will still feel real and head hunger with any surgery procedure? Or tell you hunger go’s away? I was told real and head hunger would still happen. That it would be less than pre op. Did they give you clear instructions on how to work your plan? Yes, I had a pre op class, instructions in writing sent home, one on ones with my dietitian in the first months. Cooking class and a behavior change class. Was the psych evaluation just a hoop to jump through? Would you have benefited doing more therapy before surgery? It was just a hoop. Not much depth in the questions. It honestly felt like a step to release the surgeon from liability. I did some weight loss related counseling during the process it was helpful. Were your follow up appointments with your surgeons and dietician helpful? No I was weighed and told I was doing great and sent on my way. Three appointments the first year and one every year to track success rates. I stopped going my third year. Did you understand that you can gain weight back? Did they help with a list of instructions and things to do and not to do and to contact them if you had any issues? Yes, I was given the information that this is a tool and I had to do the work. If you had regained or other issues, did you contact your team and were they helpful? I contacted them about some diet issues. They were not helpful. They did not know how to address someone who had a higher fitness level. They would not go off the bariatric cookie cutter instructions. The result was I was not healthy, I burnt muscle and my blood sugar was low (type one diabetic) -
Yah year out as of may 16
Healthy_life2 replied to Rrusan73's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Congrats on one year out! great work. -
5 day pouch reset may be a good restart for some. Good advice. Some other things to think about. It doesn't adress the the mental side of staying on plan. It also may be too restrictive if you are years out, have extra sleeve space and are trying to trouble shoot hunger, you may want to try other options. some do keto. Intermittent fasting, vegan. It may be trial and error to find what works for each of us. Trouble shooting extra sleeve space. I eat dense Protein and other foods on my plan. I eat as much veggies as I want until full. I log to make sure I stay within my weight loss calorie and macros Years out weightloss calories may have to be dialed in specifically to the individual. 600 to 800 calories is not realistic for me years out. Maintenance phase is a different animal. Getting back into weight loss mode after a weight gain is not a one size fits all. Sent from my SM-G930T using BariatricPal mobile app
