A tale of two gastric sleeve patients

If your wife finds what she enjoys for workouts, she will stick with it. There are a few couples at my gym that should not lift together. Others handle it much better. I took a strength training class for women. It was a game changer. Weightlifting is absolutely transforming. At 125ibs, I had burnt muscle from rapid weight loss. Personally, I looked unhealthy. It took time for me to build muscle back.

    REGRET

Nachos - Quest tortilla chips, ground turkey 99% lean, taco seasoning, diced green and red bell peppers, onion, salsa and a small amount of cheese Pizza - Veggies, turkey sausage and pepperoni (keeps calories lower) Small amount of cheese on a cauliflower crust.
  3. I guess the only option for weight loss wrinkles would be staying obese or have plastics.
  4. Rosanne bar is 66 years old. Drew carey is 61. The look their age to me.
  5. Not sure how old you are, I was 45 day of surgery. 50 today. I lost weight in my face before anywhere else on my body. My face was fuller with less wrinkles, obese, and double chin(s). After 100+ pounds lost, I was more than happy to get rid of the chins. I have cheek bones and collar bones. No cream was going to change my age. Bought new make up for a new face. I rock my old fart self. If you look at the before and after’s thread. Notice how most people look younger with weight loss. https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/297668-i-want-to-see-before-after-pics-contd/

    What Food Is Your Kryptonite?

Sorry you are having a rough time progressing with food. I had the foamie/slimes in the first two months. My food tolerance got better with time. Years out, I can tolerate anything. My maintaining plan allows low glycemic carbs. (Whole wheat bread/pasta, brown rice and sweet potatoes nothing white or processed) Rice would be my kryptonite. I hate how it expands. I really don’t miss it.
  9. My sister in law had the same attitude as your sister. Anger can be great motivation. I placed my sister in laws photo on my treadmill for a month. Her comment to me was “you know you are just going to gain it all back” Five year out still maintaining. Prove the haters wrong.

    Who Do You Believe?

I like stats and my apps. It gets to be information overload and frustrating at times. My watch automatically tracks in an app called connect. I'm on a running team and we are all connected by an app called strava. My fitnesspal app seems to have the biggest discrepancy.

    Who Do You Believe?

I don't rely on the numbers. I focus on my fitness goals. All watches, exercise machines, apps give estimates of calories burned. I agree, the estimates can be way off. I don’t eat back the extra calories from workout's that myfitnesspal totals. I keep my food in my weight loss calories/macro's range. I run sustained for an hour (10K run) and lift. In weight loss mode, my diet does not change because of my workout. My diet changes is for half/full marathons. I do a tapper and carb load seven days pre-race to support the intensity and recovery.

    Should I be offended?!

Wow, this is an old thread. It’s ok when a topic strikes a nerve. Trust me, I’ve ranted and at times. I have new family Dr. I have no issue telling him “Condescending/dismissive does not work for me. I can take my business/money elsewhere" Drs in my area are a dime a dozen.

Bowel Prep - Gastric Bypass tomorrow!

Congrats on surgery tomorrow. Yep, I had a colonoscopy after sleeve surgery. It was no fun getting the colon prep in. I took small sips, stayed near the bathroom and got it all in by the end of the night.

    Stalling and hunger pangs

A thread that may help https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/351046-embrace-the-stall/
  18. Thanks for sticking around the site and being supportive and inspirational. Correct me if I’m wrong, I believe you said in another post you are maintaining. You have not failed. You are not out of control and off the wagon. You recognized how you feel when not eating healthy and know what to do to work off small gains. Maintaining is knowing you can indulge within reason. Set a weight bonce range to work up and down the scale. Be diligent.. also be willing to relax a bit. When you have a small gain, go back to weight loss basics.

    Embrace the Stall

    Stall? Eating schedule and habits?

Three months out from surgery, if you log food, you know that you are eating your weight loss calories and getting your protein goal in each day. (Guessing my calories and goals never worked for me) Stop with the sensation of full. Some people have great surgery restriction. It may take more time or breaking up your meals to frequent intervals to hit your calories/macros. Stalls happen. I had my first major stall my third month. It messed with my head. I had to evaluate how I was working my plan. I was slacking off on activity/exercise. Some advice I had from vet’s and a trainer. Don’t do the same type of exercise over and over. Mix things up to get the scale moving. Here is a link to embrace the stall. It help me figure some things out. https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/351046-embrace-the-stall/
  21. It seems to be common for some of us to have buyers remorse/regret. It may be surgery complications, struggling with first stages, having to give up old coping skills/behaviors and for others it’s a moment of what did I do, and I can’t go back. Knowing what you are getting into with surgery would have been helpful. I have no regret. I knew exactly why I was doing this. I knew there is pain with any type of surgery, I understood the risks and the work I had to do. Is bariatric surgery hard? Is losing weight on your own hard? Is struggling with obesity hard? Hell ya. Hang in there, these feeling usually pass with time. For me, one of the best gifts out of surgery was overcoming WHY, I was obese. It forced me to deal with past issues and stress/emotional eating. Changing behaviors was hard but worth it. I’m happier, healthier and having adventures in life.
