Social struggles of eating very little and so slow
Healthy_life2 replied to Iowa_summergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Iowa_summergirl It is awkward at first to chew and take so long to eat such a small amount. It's funny to see the waitress think my food is bad when I don't eat a full meal and ask for a to go box. It becomes a new normal. Social settings become more about the conversations and less about the food. I love going out to eat. I'm a cheap date these day's. An appetizer and I'm good. I watch the people around me and think back at how much I used to eat. It's nice to slow down and not feel like I have to clean my plate. Yes! go out to eat..Its an interesting experience post op. It all works out..People just think you eat light and healthy. -

What’s it to you?
Healthy_life2 replied to lisacaron's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Like many, My health was terrible. C-pap and oxygen. Type one diabetic out of control. Diabetic complications stage two kidney damage. I was a time bomb on 11 types of medication. What motivated me. My mother and father in law. Both had stage 4 cancer last year. I provided hospice care for my father in law and traveled to see my mom for a weekend. They both passed 4 days of each other. They both handled knowing they were going to die with such grace. I figured the least I could do is get control of my life. Not only to extend my life but to live a life they were not able to. I do all in memory of them. Today I am 5 months out and 100lbs down from my highest weight. I had medical treatment to deal with a disease. I put in the hard work. I am learning to be comfortable with the change. It's just happened so fast. I need time to catch up with my body. It does not define me. Would curing your type two diabetes define a person? I'm loving and living life. -

A bit bummed out
Healthy_life2 replied to APURNELL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@APURNELL 3 months and over 50lbs down. You should be proud of that. you are doing great. Just some info for thought... What motivated you to have surgery? Go back to those thoughts. Try on some clothing from your high weight. Stages of change: Preparation: The person has decided on action, and is making the steps necessary to prepare themselves for action. Action: The person is engaging in actions intended to bring about change. Maintenance: The challenge is to sustain the change accomplished by previous action, and to prevent relapse. Relapse: If a relapse occurs, the individuals task is to start the process of change again rather getting stuck in relapse. If you are in a relapse phase make sure you're self talk is positive and realistic. Start the process of change again. Find your motivation. Its easy to get into all or nothing mentality and give up or let yourself get comfortable instead of fighting for your goal. No one is perfect. Its how you respond when things get hard that matters. Good luck on you're journey! Jenn1 -
What do you see when you look in the mirror ?
Healthy_life2 replied to gowalking's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was in denial about how big I was. I did not want to be seen in pictures and in my life. Being smaller but not to my surgery or personal goal yet. I still struggle with who I see in the mirror as I'm loosing weight. I hope that will change once I get to maintenance and a year or more out. The biggest change is I am an active participant in life now. I want to be out and accomplishing so many things. My family is beyond happy for my personality change over the weight loss..And I admit so am I. Yes the weight loss is great. but to have my life back means so much more. Hoping my eyes will see the new me in the mirror. I do see the new me inside so much clearer. -

Preparing for the criticism
Healthy_life2 replied to WL WARRIOR's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@WL WARRIOR I agree with @@VSGAnn2014 I have chosen not to tell the unsupportive family members in my life. I have now come to realize I don't need anyone approval. They talked about me before the surgery and that is not going to change. Funny how you can make positive changes in your life and they cannot be happy for you. My haters are really speaking volumes about how unhappy they are. Be selfish! do for you in life. -
Post Op weight loss
Healthy_life2 replied to LauraLei101's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@LauraLei101 The diet progression was fine. I knew the stages were temporary until the food stage. My dietician has modified my diet a bit to add healthy carbs to stabilize my blood sugar. My biggest challenge....I think getting out of the honeymoon stage and hitting reality. At first the weight came off pretty easy. I got to relaxed and comfortable. I woke up. I had great input on this sight as well as my local support groups. I know that I will only get out of this surgery what I put into it. Wow you're surgery is right around the corner. I'm excited for you. The journey begins:) -

Went to the post-operative support meeting at my hospital....AND...
Healthy_life2 replied to MisforMimi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I agree the support groups have been interesting but worth it for me. I think of it like a AA meeting for bariatic patients. You get the good with the bad anywhere you go. I just take what is good information. I try to be supportive to all the members. I'm in awe of the members that still go to meetings at a year or more out. Cooking classes I can't say enough about. Its like a live food network show..Even better we all get to sample the recipes and chat after the class. I'm just starting a behavior modification class. good information. We will also get into relationships and stress management. Love my hospital after care programs.
