It depends really. I was denied by Horizon with two diagnosed co-morbidities: HBP and Sleep Apnea. I submitted everything anyway, and so far they've paid for my first fill, 40% of the anesthesia bill, and my doctor fee and hospital bill are pending.

Weight loss surgery insurance secrets Ebook
kagoscuba replied to Nightlily's topic in Insurance & Financing
Most insurance companies that do not cover certain procedures do so at the request of the employer. I worked for Toys R Us in their corporate HQ office, and TRU did not cover most of the reproductive costs my wife and I had for my wife having issues keeping a pregnancy. When I inquired as to why the corporation who considered "mom" their greatest asset did not cover reproductive costs, they (HR and the CEO John Eyler, because I wrote to him) told me it's because they fund their own insurance policy and Aetna only administers it for them. The reason why I asked is because NJ has a law that mandates any company with more than 50 employees who has its headquarters in NJ MUST cover reproductive costs. TRU got away with ignoring that mandate as any company who self-insured is covered by Federal law, not state law. That's one reason why I no longer work for those a-holes. -
I was denied by Horizon BCBS, so I was a self pay for my surgery. However, they have paid for my fill and radiology for fill. In addition, they paid 40% for the anesthesiologist for the surgery. I know I shouldn't, but I am hoping they pay a similar amount for the surgery, somehow. The doctor's fee shows as pended right now, but so were the other things they ended up paying for. Doing a little Snoopy dance for the things they've paid for!

Requirements Approximately 10-15% of total daily energy intake should be consumed as protein. Protein needs for sedentary adults average about 50 grams. Growth, pregnancy, lactation, and exercise increase protein needs as indicated in the table below. So, I was down 37 pounds last Thursday, had started lifting weights last Monday and have continued with weights 4-5 days a week and cardio six days a week. My body has been responding well, so when I weighed myself yesterday I expected a change...then nada. No gain and no loss. I weighed exactly what I weighed last week, and there was no change in the diet (1k-1.5k calories a day) from the previous two weeks. It's a little bit of a bummer, but I chalk it up to my body taking a break and possibly a couple of pounds of muscle gain. Time to keep on chugging along. I'm feeling a lot better, except my trainer killed my legs last night and I'm all wobbly today...I look like I'm a prisoner smuggling something when I walk.

Yep, all man. I guess I wanted to stay as low in calories as my mind would allow, and keep the nutritional values. I don't want a tomorrow solution, but I want this weight off ASAP.

LOL...kind of like laying on the bed to be able to "fit into jeans," and then just about passing out if you have to bend over for somethnig?

Really? My BMR burns at 2200 calories a day, and my exercise is another 500 a day, so theoretically I could eat 2700 calories a day and gain nothing. Even +- 20% would still put me above what I consume. I could not imagine eating less, except when I was on Clear liquids and getting 200 calories a day. Breakfast: 2 egg whites, coffee (black) and small low-fat yogurt Pre-lunch workout snack - 1 sugar free pudding 35 minutes of cardio during lunch 5 days a week and 1 hour on Saturday Lunch - 1 Myoplex RTD Carb-Sense shake Afternoon Snack - whey Protein shake dinner - 1 medium can of tuna with 1 tsb of low-fat mayo and 1 spear of dill pickle After dinner: 45 minutes of weight training 4-5 days a week Snack - 1 sugar free popsicle 60oz of Water throughout the day. This has stayed pretty constant for the last two weeks, as I don't care about eating solid food during the day. Once at night is good enough for me. Even cutting out the Snacks aren't enough calories to make a difference, and I'd definitely be weak for working out, if I did.

Got sick of Horizon for the same thing and self-paid. I go to the doctor so rarely I couldn't prove anything. They are being fairly good about paying after the fact though *knock on wood*. Not that I suggest that strategy though. They haven't paid doctor or hospital bill yet, but they did pay for the first fill (100%) and for the surgery anesthesiologist bill at 50% (better than nothing).

I was told 90 grams, as a 5'9" male. I routinely get 100+ grams by eating Muscle Milk Protein Pudding (tastes great), drinking Myoplex Carb Sense RTD Shakes, eating hard-boiled egg whites (just throw away the yolk), sometimes some GNC whey protein shakes(50 grams per 16 ounce serving), and now that I am on solids tuna is a GREAT way to incread protein. I've been a avid weightlifter and reader of magazines associated with fitness for years, and I have NEVER once read about too much protein or not being able to absorb too much protein at one sitting. I am curious enough though to go and look it up this weekend.

The reason he doesn't want you tilted forward is it puts too much emphasis on your quads, and your hamstrings will not get as full of a workout on squats. You can get any brand you want, but you will need to find a good feeling pair of cross-training shoes for weight lifting. They have a more even base, and they have a little more lateral support than the Shox. They will also be heavier, but for weightlifting that shouldn't matter.

Red...I don't want to sound like I am preaching, but I guess if I have to say that, then I am. You have to make a decision to take a life-altering path. I understand you are frustrated, and I don't expect everyone to have the results I've had, but a couple of things to keep in mind: 1. You cannot NOT lose weight, if you follow the doctor's food guideline. You'll only be able to take in about 1k in calories a day, and I don't care if you're Ashley Olsen and sit on a couch all day, you will lose weight taking in that many calories a day. 2. If not already, exercise. Burn 300-500 calories a day, and combine that with about 2000 calories for your BMR, and you could eat 2300-2500 calories a day and not gain a pound. I lost 27 pounds before my first fill (2.5 weeks after surgery) and as of last Thursday (will weigh again tonight) I have lost an additional 10 pounds. Granted my results are probably not typical, but even 50% of my results should be. It can be done. I have faith in you.

I've said no and no egg on the car either.

from all people the nutritionist at the gym I just joined. 1. So, when are you going to have it removed? 2. My girlfriend used to be overweight. Everyone told her to get the band, and I told her if she did I wouldn't be her boyfriend anymore. Now she has lost 50 pounds on her own (she still has about another 125 to go). That's nice...coerce the girl into losing weight because she thinks she might lose the guy she "loves." That's a wonderful relationship...not!! Now, what happens when they break up? I'd not give good odds the weight loss continues. This yahoo is going to give me advice? Nope.

I think that says it all, in a nutshell. The 9/11 Commission was a non-partisan commission brought together to explore the events leading up to, during, and post 9/11, and some will still reject their results as an opinion less deserving than their own. That makes about as much sense as a panel of doctors giving someone a diagnosis for an illness and that person saying, "In my opinion, I'm not sick." Condoleeza Rice's own staffer explained the absence of a 9/11 - Iraq link, not Sean Penn or Susan Sarandon, and that is still not enough evidence...amazing.

sorry to LOL, but I am reminded of the scene in "Knocked Up" where the main female lead is in the office being told by her boss she "doesn't need to lose weight, but could she just 'tighten' a little." That scene is great for the lunacy of what is acceptable or not for weight in certain parts of society.
-

Actually it's not just her opinion only. The 9/11 Commission also points this fact out.
Quoted from the report: Responding to a presidential tasking, Clarke's office sent a memo to Rice on September 18, titled "Survey of Intelligence Information on Any Iraq Involvement in the September 11 Attacks." Rice's chief staffer on Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad, concurred in its conclusion that only some anecdotal evidence linked Iraq to al Qaeda. The memo found no "compelling case" that Iraq had either planned or perpetrated the attacks.

Oh, and you didn't ask, but I am personally against abortion, but am pro-choice, as I believe the government does not have a right to tell women what to do with their own body, until that scientific point when a fetus can remain viable on its own or with medical help. At that point, if a woman has an abortion, I believe she should go to jail for murder. -

Drawing and quartering an adult is an apples to oranges comparison. You could be as gentle as you wanted to be with an 8 week old fetus, but removing it from the womb will terminate its maturation. Actually, I see nothing arbitrary about medical technology advances and the existence of life. If I ever get in an accident, I have a living will saying not to resucitate me or keep me artifically "alive." Could I exist longer? Sure, but only through medical intervention. Could I have 200 years ago? Not a chance. As I stated before, I am actully willing to give the benefit of the doubt to medical science to keep a fetus maturing as the checkpoint for life versus maturing cell blob. I believe that is called a compromise of logic, based on the two camps of pure science and religious fervor. -

An unborn baby, pulled from it's mother at 8 weeks, will cease to mature, no matter what type of medical care it gets. So the black and white "Either it's life or it's not" logic would seem flawed. -

When a fetus can be removed from the womb and it can live either on its own or with the help of medical staff, then it is alive. If society wanted to make some other earlier checkpoint, such as brain activity, then I could go for that too However, if going by the point of conception as a reference to potential life, then society might as well ban male masturbation, since potential life is being destroyed there as well. -

You cannot kill what is not alive. A mass of cells, yet to breathe, see, hear, or think is not alive. Granted, there is a point when all those things in the womb do happen, and I would agree choice ends there. However, life does not begin at conception, only mitosis does. -
My goal weight is 180, because that's what I weighed in the military, when I was in the absolute best shape of my life. 30 inch waist, 2 mile run < 12 minutes, and rock-solid abs. I will get there again! I've already got the exercise part going strong, now it's up to my diet to catch up to me!! It's hard work getting rid of 15 years of couch-potato living! I've already lost a "toddler" though!!

Flaxseed oil, huh? Are you trying out for the San Francisco Giants? Better watch out, that flaxseed oil will make your head grow by a full hat size!! *kidding* *It's a Barry Bonds reference*
