GERD/Reflux
Unhappysleever replied to Unhappysleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am taking gaviscon when I really need it, but I no longer take PPI's they were making my symptons worse. The only additional thing I take is slippery elm, it's a powder which you mix with a little water and apple juice - it's a healthy alternative which helps to coat the throat and esphoegus. I am told this will most likely take between 6-12 mths to correct I have already been 5 mths..... -
Amy, Shelley and playlikeworldchamps, can you give us an example of your daily menus?.?.

What amount are people eating at 5 months???

As some of you know I had complications after getting my sleeve in January, the last couple of months I have improved but I am so scared what the future may hold for me and my sleeve. I want to be one of the people who never have another issue and happily goes through life but I start reading about complications other people get further out (Poor RJ, she should be given medal xxx) and worry what might be. I know this sounds crazy cause no-one can predict the future but it really concerns me. Any thoughts???

I believe it does but when only god knows!!!

Hair loss can be caused by major surgery, rapid weight loss or lack of protein - all of which we have/are going through!!

Lump in the throat - Reflux?
Unhappysleever posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As i have mentioned before i NEVER had reflux before surgery, after countless meds my gastro doc took me off everything as he said they were making it worse. Now the only thing i have is a lump in the throat some days worse than others - does anyone else have this and if so does it eventually settle down - IT IS REALLY ANNOYING.... -
I have been reading how the most that we can eat in 1 sitting is 1 cup of food (guessing it's from 6-12 mths onwards) to me this would still be less than a 'normal' person. To me 'normal' would be at least 2 cups. How do people deal with this?? I look at a cup of food and don't feel 'normal'. Can anyone consume more?
-
Kindle, thanks so much for your reply, the reflux is way better than what it was and it doesnt interfere with my eating habits. These days i dont find food satisfies me and i miss the fact that i cant have bread, rice or pasta - when all else failed you could have a salad sandwich for lunch - not now! The whole protein thing gets me a little down too, not huge on eating yoghurt, cheese, eggs, protein shakes, not alot left after those really. Most days have cereal for breakfast cause its what i like, lunch is blah and dinner well blah too. You would think that at nearly 5 months i would have worked it out by now but no i must be a slow learner

My 'normal' may not be the same as your normal. I never ate huge portion sizes but the hardest thing I find is I constantly have to now think about what I eat, where 5 months ago I ate whatever I wanted with no thought

Has Anyone Developed Acid Reflux Since Surgery?
Unhappysleever replied to Mom2IrishTwins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had never had reflux before getting my sleeve, after it was just horrible it never let up, every single day, my doctor changed my meds 5 times and still no relief. I went and saw my Gastrienteroligist he told me to stop them, well I nearly fell of my chair cause I had read about acid rebound being worse, he said some tablets mask the reflux and make it worse. I did what I was told and can gladly say my reflux is 90% better, just the lump in the throat feeling every now and again I now take slippery elm - of course this may not work for everyone. -

How do you get 70gm of protein without shakes
Unhappysleever posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi how does everyone get 70gms of protein in each day without relying on shakes? Ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!! -
I am nearly 5 mths out and only starting to get over my complications that i am just wondering for the people over 12 months has anyone developed issues with their sleeve. I am scared of what my future sleeve may hold....
-
Can anyone who is over 12 months able to eat more than 1 cup??
-
I have read so many comments how people can eat around the sleeve, i am just wondering how this is possible. Surely your stomach has restriction no matter what you eat???

How Long Did You Feel Sick
Unhappysleever replied to LaurieC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Laurie, some people have the best journey with their sleeve, no issues what so ever and others like me still wake up feeling blah. I do feel better now at 4.5 mths than what I did at 1 mth, but everyone is different. My doc told me that things could take 6-12 mths to really settle down, I am very hard on myself for not feeling good everyday but we have to remember that this is major surgery and not every body reacts the same way. I know how depressing it can be but we just have to take each day as it comes -
Will i enjoy food again?

Hi, has anyone had issues with the hormones? I have the hot/cold issues, almost passed out yesterday, the crying at anything and then told at 41 maybe starting to be pre menopausal? I know losing weight causes hormonal imbalances but can anyone tell me when it gets better, currently 4.5 months out....

Do You Feel The Same
Unhappysleever replied to LaurieC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 4.5 months out, although i dont feel great and have days where i just fell unwell, its not as bad as 3 1/2 weeks. People say it gets better and easier i just want to know when it will for me. You are not alone in the way you feel not all of us had text book surgeries and we know how hard it is -
Hi, Does anyone feel the same way about this journey. I did this for me thinking it was the right thing before I got bigger and older but now 4 months out I am just not interested. Sure I have had ongoing complications but how do you move on from this. I just dread every day - and that includes not being able to eat and drink whatever I want!!! Feels like it will never get easier...

Just not interested!
Unhappysleever replied to Unhappysleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on the 14th Jan this year, first 2 weeks fabulous no complaints, then week 3 got really sick, surgeon ran blood tests found out i was in acute renal failure, due to my bp meds and reflux med causing a toxic reaction through my body, if it was left a couple more days would have been on dialysis for 6 months. Then the nauseastarted, no med tablet would make it subside so dealing with that for the next month. All this time dealing with chronic reflux ( 5 different meds and nothing worked), all of which also gave me diarrhea and bad abdominal pains, still suffering some reflux...something i never dealt with before. Not sleeping well at night is also contributing but have no idea why every morning i wake up feeling ill.In regards to hydration i have no choice but to drink all day as my kidneys still haven't recovered and after my last blood test the surgeons said they were worst than first thought, take my multi every day and try and get my protein in - now all is revealed why i am so unhappy....
