Frequently Asked Questions

Hello. Have your tried beef base broth for the hamburger craving. Are you at the point you can do tomato soup for the pizza. Every doctor is different when it comes to what you can eat and have after surgery. I did not try them, but I was told that there is a Protein base soup out there, that may help I until you get on soft foods. Good luck, it gets better. -
Hello, South Philly here. Anyone else from there or close by?

Curiosity question on Diets after gastric sleeve
Ree224 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You see so many different diets and suggestions on here from all over. Doctors and nutritionist giving so many different directions on the diets. I am just curious how many ate carbs after the surgery and still lost the weight. -

Curiosity question on Diets after gastric sleeve
Ree224 replied to Ree224's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you all again for your responses. I was just curious on how many lost with eating carbs. There are so many that are anti carb on this site. I was just looking to see if adding carb stopped the weight loss, or slowed the weight loss. I am following what my NUT has suggested for me. I believe that I am doing well. From my highest weight I am down 63lbs. I was sleeved on July 1st and most of the loss was after the sleeve. She believes in having low carbs in the diet for the energy you need to exercise. I am just veery picky on what carbs I choose. Thank you for all the positive thoughts you all have sent. I hope that people still send their thoughts on this subject as it has been very interesting to read. Congrats to all on your journey! -

Thank you for taking time to respond. I agree it is a program, but diet is used the most on here. It is one that so far, though I a very new, not having a hard time adjusting to. . Like your nutritionist agrees you can eat everything others state differently. Again just curious on what everyone is following. -

Diridon, thank you for posting this link... wow i never knew that about the colors. I thought I was drinking enough, but I'm not usually at the top color. tmi= i'm usually the 2nd or third color which indicates i should be drinking even more than i already am. doesn't seem possible, but i'll work at it. today was my 2nd post op visit, where I asked the doc about my stall - I lost 21 pounds right away and have been stuck at 23 pounds lost for the last 4 of the 5 weeks since my surgery. He asked me about my exercise and i told him and he then proceeded to poopoo me and said a. you are only 5 weeks out you shouldn't be looking at things that way at this point and b. as long as i continue with a good exercise regimen the pounds will shed off of me and to not worry about this at all. (nota bene: my ticker is going by my highest weight on record, which is why it says 33 lbs lost. the doctor/official number is 10 lbs less than that because they are using a weight from a preop office visit that's lower than my highest recorded weight.) which is good, but then i look at everyone on here that are 4-5 weeks out and I'm seeing 30+, 40+, 50+ and sometimes even as much as 69 pounds lost in a month since surgery and I can't help but compare myself to that. Which I think I need not to do. that said, it's hard. I love reading everyone's posts here and i'm glad to be a part of this july sleever's forum. thanks for being here guys. Do not get discouraged. I had the quick weight loss in the beginning now, not so much. When I mentioned to the doctor about not losing as fast he stated that healthy weight loss is a 1 or 2 lbs a week. It gives your body time to adjust to the loss and the skin to tone better. I know it's hard, but I am going to have faith and keep true to the plan and I believe it will come off. Best of luck and congrats on the weight you have lost. : ) -
Have searched and saw old post. Just wanted a more updated response. What's anyone been experiencing bad periods since having surgery. I was sleeved on July 1st. Since then I have had a full week and then spotting, I just started with an extremely heavy flow ( sorry if TMI ) I did read that hormones are stored in the fat and can caused abnormal periods. Just wondered if anyone else is having the same experience. Thanks

I have problems with certain foods. I cannot eat eggs yet. They hit my stomach like little lead pebbles. What I am able to eat without much problem is rotisserie chicken especially of in use low fat gravy with it. I have stayed away fromoat carbs. Though my nut stated that you should have some to help you get through the exercise without getting to tired. With that I found lentil crackers that have 5 g of protein per serving. Good luck and just keep playing with your food to see what works. -
Thank you all for the responses.. Newjulie yes very much so. That is why I posted to see if anyone else was going through the same thing. I researched so much before the surgery but never thought about researching about female cycles. Tylenol did not much either. I am so used to Motrin, that I know I will have some adjusting to the Tylenol.

Torani sugar free syrups work well. They have many flavors. Can be found at grocery stores and Wal Mart. They are limited in flavors. You can also get them off amazon. -
BMs sorf covered before unable to find in search

Hello, I know that bowel movements in the beginning maybe delayed. I am just curious on after having the procedure how many and how often do you go. I am asking due to the fact that I realized this morning that it is over two weeks since I have gone. I just started purées Sunday, and even though it is not much, I thought that it would have been enough to bring on a BM. Thank you for any advice you choose to share. -
