    Infected Band?

Hi Leticia, I live in Oak Park just out side Chicago. I was banded 9/07 in Mexico, Dr. Joya. About 5 weeks after banding, the port site opened and started oozing yellow liquids. I was put on antibotics it calmed down a little but kept on oozing. Went back to Mexico, site was opened and pronounced to be infected. Site was cleaned, shot full of antibotics, port cleaned and moved down just a little lower than original position. Horrible pain continued. Went to Lapband Dr in my area.. He removed port. Infection continued. Surgery again, he opened the site, left large gapping hole. This was June 2, 2008. Today, the sites still has not completely healed, it still drains green pus. However, on the good side I have very little pain, so I am waiting for my insurance plan to allow open enrollment and then I will switch to ppo and find a Dr. that specializes in slow healing wounds. Who are your doctors in Chicago? Thanks, Linda my e-mail is linda60302@yahoo.com

Mandi, It sounds like you might have been better off with gastric bypass surgery.

    infection but still positive

H Sheemac Needless to say every one is so different. Some people can take antibotics and get rid of the infection. Did you say you have been on antibotics for 4 weeks. My port had to be removed, infection continued. Surgery again and now packing and healing from the inside out. It is a blessing that you have a supportive family. Quiet your mind ask for perfect peace within and you will begin to know what you need to do and what needs to happen.

    replacement port

Hi losing it in me, Your situation sounds like mine. I had tunnels to and a wound that just would not heal even with port removal. Guess, all we can do is know that in time the band will work for us.
  8. Hi Snoho What happened, why are you in pain? I have a story too. I will make it short. Banded 10/07 5 weeks later site swollen dark, hot. Checked for infection (bacteria) none found. Just a zillion bacteria fighting cells. Yes my body was treating the port like it was an infection. Port finally removed March, 2008. The infection fighting cells still would not go away. Surgery June 2, 2008, sliced and diced, healing from the inside out. Today is the first time in 9 months that I know I will be ok! That's enough to make a person think twice about another port, but I remember after getting the band. I had restrictioin and it was so wonderful to feel full on small amounts of food, so wonderful not to have food on my mind 24 hours. I remember thinking that some people are just naturally that way without a band, then I would cry thinking that I am not one of them. I was banded in Mexico, my Dr. is not to blame, it was my choice. I hope that you get relief from the pain and that whatever your goals are you meet with success. take care
  9. Hi Tess,

Most days I feel positive and happy. However, thinking about what I want to eat next has always been a part of my thought process. It seems odd, and often wonder if thin people think about food the way we do. Can you e-mail me your life coach e-mail address. I am at linda60302@yahoo.com. thank you

  10. It is great to hear that there are excellent lapband surgeons in the U.S who are charging reasonable prices. They ae almost competitive with Mexico.

Lap band not working out like I thought

HI BRANDY, I was banded 9/28/07, about 6 weeks later my port site opened and started oozzing pus. To make a long story short, it took 6 months before the port was finally removed. I feel much better, but I can eat all the bad things and have trouble from time to time with good foods. Would they do a gastric bypass on you it sounds like your bmi is below the 40 that my doctor requires for gastric bypass. Anyway, I think we just have to hang in there, holding on to the knowledge that we will sucessfully reach our weight loss goals

    My pain changed....

funny, how all my doctors and I saw three different ones kept telling me that I did not have a bacterial infection, but my wound never closed and despite antibotics, I kept leaking pus from my wound. I am glad you are better I SEE you on the chat board sometimes.

    African American Bandsters?

Get Real!! Obesity Is Not Race Specific, Nor Is Success Or Failure Of The Band It Is Individual Specific

OMG, what have I done to my child?

you are so right. My dasughter grew up hearing me say I am fat, seeing me exercise 2-3 hours a day, watching me take diet pills and watching me try every diet program out there. By the time she was 13 she was diagnosed as anorexic. I did not know the damage I was doing. However, as she celebrates her 17th birthday, she is at a very heathy weight, praises be unto God. Your daughter is only 4, My suggestion stop all talk about weight, or being fat, or being on a diet. Reassure your daughter that she is not fat and never will be, that she is beautiful and perfectly crafted by God.
  15. I was banded 9/28/07, down 33 pounds, I love the band but after 5 weeks, I started draining from the port site, I am still draining, no infection, my dr. said give it three more weeks and if the draining does not stop he will remove the port. I would like to hear from someone who has had a port removed
