    Need advice:

I had the bypass Feb 2014. I decided to have it because of the post i read with the revisions. I figured if i was going to put my body through a surgery i wanted to go for the big one and only have one surgery.

Janette Congratulations on the new baby.. how fun this must be! More energy will come in handy with the little one. Have you thought about compression shorts for when your walking? I wear mine under my fitness pants and they have been a great help with keeping the slaps under control. Best wishes Deanna

Kim Thats amazing great job! I don't know about you but my last 15 lbs are the hardest to shed right now. If i had any complaint it would also be the extra skin. The doctor at my last support group meeting said that most of us do very well having the breast and tummy taken care of, but she was really discouraging us against the arm and leg area. So i would like to learn more about that as well. I can live with it all except the tummy area. My insurance will not pay for it because they don't see it as medically necessary. So the cost is going to be a hugh deciding factor for me. I am training for my first half marathon. I never thought i would be able to run let alone for over 13 miles. Shape ware is my best friend right now. Best wishes, Deanna

    Abandoned Forum?

I am 13 months post-op and always seeking support from others. I didn't get the surgery my first time around but after i got past all of the possible complications of having the bypass i knew i had to go for it. That was two years later from my first attempt and I am so glad I did it. My starting weight was 243 Surgery wt 226, and todays wt 133. I still have 10 lbs to go for my goal weight and it is very easy to eat more and most foods no longer cause me to dump or vomit. I believe getting the fluids in will be a struggle for the rest of my life. I had serious worries early on that the surgery didn't work on me ( very slow weight loss) then it would kick in and my weight was dropping. There were and still are weight stalls that are very frustrating but i try not to focus too much on it. ( I think in the early months that is nearly impossible not to focus on it) Now i am just trying to keep the eating within the guidelines and most days i succeed and a few that I don't. Everyone is different in the process other than we all need a place to get support. Thanks for getting this forum active again. Best wishes everyone! Deanna
  7. As of 2/6/14 I will be at one year.. yahooo!!! Gastric Bypass Starting weight: 243lbs Current weight: 133 lbs This year has been a roller coaster with many ups and downs along the way. To say this journey was the "easy way out" would be so wrong. I've cried, vomited, stressed that I wasn't losing weight as quickly as others (which was way to harsh on myself). I have forced myself to eat then turn around a few days later and remind myself not to eat too much food. I have obsessed over drinking fluids or having bowel movements. ( sorry if that's too graphic for some of you). I have driven my dear sweet supportive husband crazy with my emotions. I'm not perfect with following the doctors schedule plan of eating, but I follow what my new pouch allows. I allowed myself a treat here and there and maybe I enjoyed it but most of the time I have paid the price for doing so. I have learned to celebrate the non surgery victories and stop focusing on that scale. I am happy and healthy for the first time in Twenty-five years. I have no regrets having this surgery other than not doing it sooner. My true journey is still to come as I approach the maintenance phase (I still need to lose another thirteen pounds) I know I will make mistakes, but that's ok as long as I learn from them. 1st picture is of me on the day of surgery. 2nd picture is a week ago

Matos08 Just speaking from my experience (it's different for everyone) Your body has just gone through a major surgery and is in shock so to say. My first month out i lost maybe 20 lbs total. Then i had stalls and then consistent weight loss. Protein is the key to weight loss and water. Try getting a unflavored protein powder and mixing it in your yogurts or soups. Hope this helped some. Best wishes

Yeay.. i have finally started moving after a two month plateau. I was very pleased with where i stalled even though it wasn't my goal weight but, I'm very happy it started moving again. Daily challenges still keep me guessing but i wouldn't change any of it. 2015 is going to be a fabulous year! Clair i hope Hawaii is treating you well with beautiful weather. Deanna

New Guy w/ RYGB on 12/17

Hi Mike I hope you have a smooth recovery from surgery.. I am almost eleven months post op. I had the ryn last February. Let me know if you have any questions, I'm here to help.
  20. I am also almost a year out from ryn surgery.. Feb 2014 was my surgery date. Don't let all of the articles scare you. I also read the story of them losing their teeth.. i almost backed out but my surgeon reassured me that cases like that are extremely rare. I had alot of pain after the surgery but i also had a rather large hernia repaired at the time of my bypass. Plus i think my tolerance to pain is very low. Walking helps even though you really don't want to move.. get up and walk! Practice sipping your water and not drinking with your meals..that was my biggest struggle . It does get easier. Hair loss.. it's not like you will go bald. You may be the only person that notices it. Protein helps this from being too excessive. It will grow back! Constipation is a struggle but make sure you go every other day at least. I took maylox as needed and stool softners daily. It wasn't that bad if you stay on top of it. Your new pouch will tell you what you can or can not tolerate. Just be aware of the signs..might be a tight feeling or bloated feeling (at least that was for me) i still do not feel "hunger pains" but i try to eat my 3 meals a day. My first three months were the hardest, but it's all a mental struggle and it does get easier. I wish i had my surgery years ago when i first looked into it, it has been the best decision of my life. My starting weight was 243, current weight 139. I'm loving life and all of the new things i can comfortably take part in. The articles will drive you crazy as will the scale. Don't compare your weight loss to others that have had the same surgery. Your body will lose the weight when it's ready. Oh and take measurements before surgery so when the scale isn't moving your inches will be. I'm here if you need to chat Best wishes

Happy black friday everyone.. I hope the festivities from yesterday were tolerable. My first holiday meal went great.. other than the fact my plate looked like it did last year.. but at least I was able to sample a little of everything and all went well. Hope you have a wonderful rest of the year Best wishes Deanna
