What are your opinions on eating avocados?

I have a tablespoon of guacamole once in a while (whenever we have tacos, I have a bit on my taco meat). I've also mashed plain avocado into tuna salad and egg salad (in place of mayo) and it is pretty good It's a nice occasional treat, but not something I would eat daily.

    Planking

I'm up for this challenge. I'll start it tomorrow (since I've got a full plate of physical activity today)

    Weight Loss and Tattoos

I think the inner wrist should be okay. It better be, because I've got an appointment on July 29 to get a butterfly on my inner wrist/forearm =P I'm holding off on getting my back done, and waiting on the one I want on my chest until I reach goal (and see if I need plastics or not...I don't want to lose part of my tattoo because I was too impatient to wait)

    Planking

I'll have to try both. The yoga program I do has straight-arm planks as the standard, and the bent arm plank as the variant. Same with down-dog. Straight-arm is standard, on forearms is the variant (Dolphin pose)...it's listed as the wrist-saving variant. I've seen more non-yoga programs with the bent-arm pose listed as primary though... Curious...

    Newbie July 10th Sleeve

I craved pickle juice post-surgery. I had trouble with too-sweet protein at first, so it was a nice palate cleanser

    Pre op

My pre-op was 14 days, and consisted of Protein shakes 3x/day. I was allowed up to six in any combination of low-fat string cheese, V-8, 1/4 c. cottage cheese, 1/4 c. apple sauce, or 1/4 c. SF pudding. I was allowed any amount SF Jello or popsicles. The first day or two weren't fun, but after that, it didn't bother me a whole lot. I rarely ate all six allowables (2-3 was about all I managed. After the first few days, my hunger decreased greatly, whether it was because of the liquid diet or because of nerves, I don't know, but I was happy)

    Planking

I think I'm at 15 seconds? But I do a straight-arm plank. Maybe I should try this variant. I wouldn't say it looks easier, but I think it might put less stress on my shoulders.
  9. It was day 6 or 7 I was able to side-sleep. I was propped by a few pillows/rolled blankets for support. About 10 days to sleep unsupported. Oh, how I hated back-sleeping. Which is funny, because now that I'm further out, I don't mind sleeping on my back =P

Hit a stall 3 wks out. GRRRRR!

The three-week stall sucks. Especially after how fast the weight seemed to fall off those first two weeks. I've had two stalls so far, and each lasted maybe 6-8 days? Not fun, but just stay the course and the weight will start falling again in no time.

    Anyone have extra protien?

Let me double-check my kitchen. I have a few cans of unopened chocolate and vanilla shake mix from Nature's Bounty that I can't drink (too sweet post-surgery) and possibly some Syntrex packets.

    Secret Surgery

I told quite a few people. My bf told even more =p Because for all his trepidation about my surgery, his actions say that he's pretty proud of what I'm doing. I had initially told only family and a few friends. Through him mentioning it to other people (mostly because I became an almost total recluse during the pre-surgery testing, appointments and diet) I discovered a few other people who had the surgery in the past, and they're very interested in how I'm doing. I have received no negative comments. Maybe people talk about me behind my back, I don't know, but pretty much everyone has been positive to my face. But then, most of our friends and most of the people where we volunteer together have seen my weight loss struggles and bear no animosity to doing whatever it takes to get healthy. I do understand that I'm quite lucky in this respect. I honestly didn't expect the degree of positive comments and support I received from my friends. But then, I cut a lot of negative people out of my life before I started the process, so that may have something to do with it.
  13. Everyone's stomach heals differently, I guess. I know I can't eat sugar period. Anything more than 3-4 grams has me clutching my stomach and curling into a tiny ball. Some meats bother me (steak, no matter how tender; pork, no matter how lean) These are things that never bothered me before, but do now. My NUT said if I wanted, I could try again in a few months. I figure it's just like there were some foods I couldn't eat before I had surgery because they caused issues (anything cooked in grease, cooked tomatoes or tomato sauce., etc) It's the same post-surgery.

    Second stall *sigh*

After a week-long stall, it finally broke with a 3-lb loss Yes, I'm very happy I'm losing again. But then, I know I stayed true to the course through it as well. It does help to talk about it and see that others are going through the same things. (And @@CowgirlJane I can't wait until stalls are a distant memory Looking forward to that.)

    Naysayers

I am currently two months out. I have lost a total of 64 lbs so far (25 pre-op and the rest post-op). It may not be as much as RNY, but honestly, I don't care. I feel fantastic. I have lost 20% of my bodyweight, I'm off all of the meds I was on pre-surgery, and I can do so much that just exhausted me before. I can walk with my bf and not feel like I'm slowing him down.

Who really followed the post-op diet?

I followed both pre-op and post-op to the letter. I invested too much into the process to stray from the path.
  17. Honestly, if I were one of the six, I would come nowhere near this thread. You can see how the two that came forward were already torn apart and blamed for what happened to them.

    Something to Worry About?

I would have to agree with @LumpySpacePrincess...I wasn't able to eat KFC even before my surgery because I had a similar reaction. Grease is not my friend (but then, I haven't been able to eat fast food without adverse reaction since my gall bladder came out eight years ago) If it doesn't clear up, definitely call you doctor.
  19. All I can say after reading this thread is 1) I'm sorry to the women who were personally affected by the unprofessional behavior of this coordinator. 2) Slut-shaming and victim blaming is NOT okay. I don't give two flying f**ks about whether you know or don't know the victims involved, not a single person has the right to blame them. The fact that they were consenting adults really isn't germaine: they were taken advantage of during a vulnerable time in their lives. I can only hope that if any of these bullies, fangirls or others who seem to be victim blaming have something similar happen, that they aren't immediately called out and bashed because they fell for a line during a vulnerable time in their lives. 3) "He's a man" is absolutely no excuse for this behavior. I don't know Susan. I don't know the victims. I have zero personal stakes in this, other than I have been a victim of this type of abuse and I have been told it was my fault. It took a boatload of counseling to realize that it wasn't my fault. Blaming the victims and trying to bury the issue only insures that there will be more victims. Just because a lot of people had good experiences with this coordinator/this clinic doesn't invalidate the few people who had not-good experiences. It means that more people don't fit his victim profile than do.

    Night time food?

My NUT said nothing about what time to eat or not eat. I'm in the habit of not eating past 6 p.m. though...pre-surgery, if I ate later than that, I suffered horrible reflux when I went to bed, so I try to avoid that at all costs.

    Struggling :(

I'll have to try this the next time I make meatballs. I still have a partial bag in my freezer from last time I made them (I used the ground chicken, but added very little else. They were baked in tomato sauce since I was making meatball subs for the rest of the family with them...I just ate a plain meatball)

    Cleaning Out My Closet.

ON's plus size section isn't too bad online. I don't see any plus sizes in the actual store though, so it's quite inconvenient if you want to try stuff on (which is pretty essential when changing size rapidly...I hate guessing at sizes and being wrong)

@@Jersrose43 That huevos rancheros sounds really good...I may have to try that for lunch.

    Yoga---It's for US!

I LOVE yoga. I've been doing it for nearly 10 years (I had very bad lower back pain, and the doctor suggested yoga. It took a bit of practice, but the difference was amazing. I do AM yoga every morning, and poses throughout the day if I feel the need. I literally can't sleep if I don't do yoga daily (my lower back starts to tighten, which causes horrible leg cramps. The yoga relieves this issue. It may be all in my head, but whatever. I believe the yoga helps me sleep and stay balanced, therefore it does) If you're looking to try some different varieties of yoga, Gaiam TV has a free 10-day trial to their service. It will give you access to their videos and a bunch of different yoga styles (they have other fitness videos on there as well, but yoga's my go-to exercise.) I personally like Rodney Yee's series ( I do his AM and PM yoga, and there are a few other ones that I don't remember the names of now, but they're targeted more toward beginners. Some of the poses in his advanced series are a bit beyond me currently)
