I had gastric bypass on 9/23/13 after years of unsuccessfully battling obesity. The only success I had had at weight loss was while on Byetta, a diabetes med that acts on the GLP-1 hormone. The deciding factor for me to finally go through with surgery was research I found online about RNY increasing GLP-1. That settled it for me.
Since surgery I am on track with my weight loss, and my A1C is 5.5. (7 before surgery). Before surgery I was a staunch advocate of low carb/high fat way of eating - and I still am, it's just that my macros look a little different with the decreased amount of food. I still believe that healthy fats are essential - animal fats and monounstaurated (like olive oil). (No vegetable oils or trans fats)
