This is what I am doing thru Dr. Nicholson in Dallas. I have BCBS FEP and I was denied for the sleeve. They are covering my hernia surgery & I am doing partial payment for the sleeve part. Is this what your dr wants to do?

@@Annesia I'm not a doctor but I'm 99% sure they give you general anesthesia before they put tube in. They take it out before you wake up. Any pros to add anything? it's been awhile since I've had this done. -
Congratulations!! Your perseverance certainly paid off. That's GREAT news!

Thanks Mrs S! I now see on the Nicholson Clinic website that there's a True Results button. I'm blind as a bat! This is what I'm going to try, as I do have hiatal hernia. Lisa @ Nick confirmed they do the self-pay sleeve for less while repairing hernia which should be covered by ins. We haven't talked numbers yet. -

Congratulations!! It's right around the corner for you! I am contacting Nic clinic tmrw. I'll be traveling from Richmond VA area. After almost a year of waiting & jumping hoops, appealing, appealing again, I was looking into Tijuana, but the husband is not comfortable with me traveling to MX alone. I've shown him hundreds of posts from all the happy & healthy MX patients but he's not sold. Anyhoo....I'll be self-pay & I'm seriously considering the Nicholson clinic. Can't find anything but great things about him! Good luck & keep us posted! -
Bluepoint Surgical Group

I had an awful time in the fall, before the practice split up. It took a month to have my records sent. A month! Many people on BP are pleased with them but I know of several who have had problems. Maybe it's because of the split. I called & spoke to the Office Manager & finally got some help. Good luck! -
CONTRAVE - med newly approved by FDA Sept 2014
peteyrulz replied to utahgirll's topic in GLP-1 & Other Weight Loss Medications (NEW!)
Because I may never ever never ever ever get approved for this surgery, today my PCP suggested I try this. She is a fantastic doc IMHO & she carefully explained its ins, outs, & warning signs of problems. I'm starting it in a few days after I decrease my current ADs. I started this journey almost a year ago, and for the first time in a loonngg time I'm starting to see light! My insurance won't cover it [sURPRISE!!] but she signed me up for the rx program. Sooo, I'll let you know how it turns out. If Contrave doesn't work for me, she says she'll see me post-op should I go to Mexico. Yay! -
Anyone approved without co-morbidity with BCBS Federal?
peteyrulz replied to scoutmom's topic in Insurance & Financing
I'm curious, where did you have your sleep study? I was VERY surprised when I was not diagnosed with sleep apnea, as my husband says it scares him when I stop breathing while sleeping, and there have been several instances when I jerked myself awake trying to catch my breath. and I know what you mean about the nutrition classes. I paid for mine in full last July & I'm still trying for approval. I don't know if all practices do this? -

Do they have a pre-payment penalty? If you pay it off early do they charge ALL the interest? Their terms are outrageous but I guess there's a good market for folks (like me, with a chapter13) who have poor credit. Good luck! Let us know about your surgery afterwards. -

Excellent advice! wish I had followed through with this in my case. Thru a comedy of errors in the surgeon's office staff I am still dealing with this & my denial since Jul 2014. I dare say my surgeon's office dropped the ball, and it has cost me a lot of time. Oye!I wish I had been more proactive by going directly to the office & dealing with this head on. My insurance is BCBS Fed emp (Anthem)

here's my situation...was denied 3x by my insurance to have VSG here in US...hired lawyers & they have been working my case since mid-October. My last correspondence with them was 14-Jan, when I was told they were talking with my plan's admin. I have not heard back or heard an answer on my case, even after several emails & a phone call. These are great folks with an outstanding reputation. I am getting impatient as spring approaches. My plans are to have VSG in TJ if I am denied. (Dr. Corvala) I'm afraid if I schedule TJ surgery & spend the extra money for flight & deposit, I'll get a call saying I was finally approved by my insurance. That's just my luck! ???? My guts (no pun intended) are telling me I've been denied. The lawyer asked me to not contact insurance during this appeals process, which I completely understand. So...my question to you is... WWBPD? (what would Bari Pal do?) Anyone else ever been in this situation?

I recently read a post on here by someone who was financing through BeLiteWeight.com (not affiliated), and she got reasonable financing through them. IRCC they have their own financing. I'm going to call them tomorrow to find out more. HTH! -
Hi Scoutsmom! I'm using Bluepoint as well...who is your doc? I have Dr Halmi. My experience has not been great, but that is because when I started my BMI was < 40 and BCBS did not accept my co-morbidities. It's a long story. I've been dealing with this since last March. (i am sure I am in the minority with the length of time it has taken; many of the problems were due to a comedy of errors on BP's part, & I switched surgeons yada yada yada) Fast forward to present, I am waiting to hear on my last appeal. Other than that, they readily accepted my 3 month supervision & all other tests, etc. btw do you have Standard or Basic option? I have Standard. From what I've read on this forum & others, BCBS usually approves expediently if BMI > 40, & certain co-morbidities. Good luck!

Agave nectar is a great idea! I have some in my pantry; I use it when I make salmon. Tmrw I'm going to try it in my coffee. I bet it's great in tea, too.
