  1. My dr advised post op day one and moving forward to eat by portion size rather than to search for the "full" feeling. Most cases are if you eat until u feel full you've already eaten more than you should because there is a delay in the time the stomach is full and the mind gets the signal. Thus another reason slow slow eating giving your body time to send the signal. Early on I could only handle very very small amounts and as you heal you you will notice what full means for you. We are all different. I notice by hiccups or slight belch. Knowing that I could comfortably eat 1/4 cup and be ok with no reactions was much better than not measuring and eating 1/2 cup only to loose it because it was more than I can handle. I'm at 21wks post op and still haven't been able to master eating enough or getting enough fluids. I did have a major set back that started 1/24 that I am still in recovery. I physically had great pain and was on some tough antibiotics which made eating difficult. This set back was not at all in relation to my surgery. Use a baby spoon to eat and measure measure measure. If you know at 1/4 or 1/3 cup you are satisfied. The. Stop and carry on with your day. However this will help to bring balance know how much your eating. Best of luck!

    Poop talk.... TMI

And not once you are beyond or pass this and are more comfortable try adding a stool softner. I had issues soon after surgery and seem to come and go. I had a major health/mobility set back which required me to take pain meds. I take 2 stool softner a daily to prevent any issues in the "end" . Hope everything works out for you so that you are feint better.

    Working out

Surgery for me was 11-4 and I wasn't released for exercise until 12-22 with the exception if walking. I walked 1 mile up and down hospital halls on day 2 post op b4 being discharged.

    POST OP DRAIN

I was sleeved 11-4 and did have a drain until 11-6 when I was discharged from the hospital. All has been fine and wounds healed
  5. Post op my dr advised to eat by portion size. Rather than trying to eat until you felt "full". Sadly there is a delay time between when your new tummy is full and when your brain gets the signal to stop eating. As a result you may eat too much and end up getting sick. Try to focus on eating 1/4 cup of yogert then wait a bit if you still think your hungry try another 1/4 cup. It is a learning process. First of all your tummy is still healing I'm 16 almost 17 wks out and I'm lucky if I eat an entire container At one sitting and I'm talking the single serve size which are between 4-5oz I take my time and savor every bite. I know it silly however even when I drink milk I " chew" my drink. This helps keep things small and under control as well as slowing things down. I have learned my " full flag" comes when I have a slight feeling to burp or get hiccups. That's a stopping point for me. By measuring you learn to keep track if how much is that "satisfied" feeling and stop then. Hugs of support.
  6. . .....pretty much the same for me. Nut wants me 1000-1100 calories/day. My sleeve surgery was 11-4-14. I hit the 3wk stall then started loosing again. Right now I feel like I'm eating all the time yet I'm not. On a great day maybe 800 calories. I'm currently In another stall mainly I feel because I've had some unexpected surgeries within the last month. Gained over10lbs from I'v. Just stay focused and log your food. See where you might be able to reduce calories. It's a true learning process.
  7. Well folks I find myself in such a pickle. I got my sleeve 11-4-14. All has been going wonderful. Although I have battled with nausea I am still tickled with this tool. My December 22nd appointment the dr was happy with my progress. Moving along I set out to up my next step and joined the gym. I was stuck in a stall. My next appointment was set for 2-2.... However, last Saturday I was bitten by a dog and broke my right arm near the wrist in 3 places. My left arm needed staples. The pain I have experienced is the worst pain in my entire life! I went to the ER on Saturday and was given a splint until I could get to the ortho Monday. Due to the fact it was an open wound they would not cast so that I could clean the site daily. By Tuesday my arm started to swell. Having a broken bone in my history and confirming with both my aunt who is an RN and the ortho dr swelling would be expected due to the trama so I didn't worry. By Thursday I was back in the orthos office and he was concerned for infecton and opted to take me into surgery Friday AM! so that's when I kinda freaked out. I had just reached 12wks post op. Surgery was set to put plate/screws in the bone. Yet once in surgery the dr cleaned the area yet didn't put on any hardware die to infection. What was set for a simply procedure done outpatient went sour. They selected to keep me in the hospital. They advised that on Monday we will review things. And maybe I can go home. Yet if the dr feels it is necessary I may simply be taken back to surgery for the plate/screws. I haven't been able to exercise and feel this is such a setback I just want to cry! They have me on several strong medications and an I'v bag the entire time of my stay thus far. Still the pain is aweful. Before this accident I had just started being able to get more calories in to help break my stall. My weight is up a few pounds in all this mess. And my sleeve has not been. Happy with me. I had to call my gastric dr and postpone my appointment because I'm not sure I will be released. For whatever reason this just feels like such a hurtle! This is not the hospital where I received the sleeve and have to explain my unusual eatin. I am Greatful because the dietary group has come to see me and always sends up a Greek yoghert and modifies my tray with things that work within my diet. I'm simply feel stuff and sore and hurting. Even though I get up to walk and stretch. It's taking a toll on my body and my hair has started falling out! too much stress. Thank you for reading I guess I just wanted to cry out to someone.
  8. Ok ladies and gemtlmen. I have a serious question. I am concerned because on 12-4 i weighed in at 288 this was my one month. That was 25lbs in 30 days. I am so excited. I am following the rules and having issues with nausea yet I'm still working through and staying positive. I checked my weight yesterday and it shows an 8lb gain? Could this be accurate? I'm puzzled. I'm interested to know if anyone else experienced such torture lol. In remaining positive and keep telling myself it's water.

    Unexpected set back

Thank you to everyone who replied. This situation of min has turned into a total nightmare. 4 day stay in hospital with I'v antibiotics and Fluid I gained 10lbs. I know it's Water weight so that I know will fall off again. Sadly I've been informed the infection was in the bone . My two choices were either have I'v antibiotics for 2/4 wks brought by home health and have an I'v line the entire time or opt 2-try a combination of two very strong oral antibiotics.again-2-4wks. My option was try the oral antibiotics and be free from the I'v. That being said this is extremely difficult for me with my sleeve. I'm post op and had just went onto my last food phase. Eating is still a challenge. Now with these harsh meds it's all but impossible. Thank goodness for Greek yoghert and small amounts of Soup. At this point all bets are off and if I find something that doesn't make me sick I eat it. today I had a Protein bar, cup of fruit and 1/4 cup chili. The meds effect my taste even more now that I have my sleeve. I'v reached out to both nut & dr. I'm scared this will have an impact on me. My health is important and this caught me totally off guard. My body needs nutrition now more than ever yet I fight the nausea caused by the meds. A vicious circle. I'm Greatful to my Drs and this site for the support when feeling I'm in the bottom of the bucket. Thank you all again!

    Unexpected set back

The sleeve seems to be unhappy with all the meds they have me on plus the added stress. I am and always have been an Animal lover. Rescued many and this dog was first rescued from an abusive home by my Father who passed away in 2010 and that's where I step in and took over. This dog has slept at my feet for years. Saturday we woke up early cuddled and watched a movie. I went to the kitchen and got some coffee... Came back and asked if he wanted to go out and scratched the top of his heAd as I had done so many times before and he just snapped with a bite to the bone.. He did chomp twice as I heard and felt both crunches of bone. The ortho advised he could see where tooth went through the bone I physically had to restrain him until the dog catcher could come take him away and I headed to the ER. I have altered what I'm eating back to some of the basics to help neutralize any issues that new foods may cause. I also find the positive that I know I will not be dehydrated as they are busy giving me iVs while I'm here Yes this to shall pass, I'm just ready to get back my norm! thank you for your reply
  11. check with ur nut as they may actually allow the juice. In addition u can purée your own prunes or buy babyfood.
  12. I'm 11wks an my nut advised me to get 1000-1100 calories per day. That however is easier said than done. Me personally I am having a real problem when I feel hungry I take a few bites and I'm done. Eating more I feel sick or loose it all. I've slowed my eating and eat with a small baby spoon so bites are not too large. The nut advised me that I shouldn't have to worry about calories because my intake is so limited that I'm only getting in about 1/2 and feel as if I am eating all the time . Hope things are going more smoothly for you!

    8 weeks post foods

What did your dr/nut advise? Everyone on this site will be able to give you different views as all our dr/nuts have different instructions. Play it safe and follow what they have advised. If there are issues or complications they you won't hear " that wasn't allowed yet"

    Lost password

Did anyone ever find out how to change password? I can't get the reset email and don't see how to on the app .....grrr
  15. I totally agree. I'm 11 weeks out and found in the earlier stages I would have a bite in my mouth literally chewing when the "I'm full" flag would go out. Early on you should be eating small amounts very slowly. Funny I've learned to eat and read on this site. I take a bite then read in the forums take a bite and repeat the process. This allows time for the chemical signals to get connected. I can eat about 3oz- 4oz max. If I push the limits I'll end up sick. My sleeve I've learned is very sensitive to things and although I didn't think my problem was eating too fast I learned it was part of the problem. Try to eat 1/2cup and stop see if your full. Maybe some of the "old" habits are trying to work their way back in. Wishing you the best in your journey.
  16. Don't risk passing out during your 4 hrs of work. Call the surgeon and go to the ER. wishing I knew the magic fix! Sending you healing energy! Stay positive

    Really constipated.. I think...

Constipation seems to be the "next big challenge" it seems most have had a battle at some point post op. It is normal and you simply need to try and find what works for you. Everything above and I've also seen good reviews for smooth move tea you should be able to find at the local walmart in the herbal tea section (top shelf) lol. Wishing a happy outcome!

    1 week anniversary

What does your dr/nut advise? At one week post op my food phase had me on full liquid only so there wasn't "real" eating... Simply tiny sipping All day. Give your dr/nut a call so that you are following the guided information they provide. Wishing you happy healing

    Stalled and depressed

You can do this! ** swift kick in the tail** bust my buffers and off your rocker! Get a moving and a grooving in any shape form or fashion. There are so many "chair" exercises or other exercise programs that could be done without requiring you to get in the floor or harm yourself or cause pain. Just get on YouTube and search for chair exercise. They are often used for seniors but hey it will all help in the long run. You could also ask the orthodox to suggest exercise that would not compromise the recent work you had on the shoulder.... They might even offer you a few items that would be physical therapy that might help you with range of motion and other areas of healing. Wishing you all the best and hope you feel well soon!

    To hospital or not? Help

I noticed you had another forum post wanting to loose quicker or at a higher rate. The. I saw this post and couldn't help wonder if you have been following the guidance of your dr/nut in the food phases. If you haven't and your attempting to do this solo on your own path the. Maybe you ate something that your tummy wasn't ready for yet either way a call to the dr and trip to the er without wasting time might be in order in case there have been any complications. Wishing you happy healing!

    calorie goals early on?

I agree. As all Drs and nuts have different plans for everyone to follow it's best to ask your dr or nut. For me personally I am just now 11wks post op from the sleeve. I had an apt with the nut last week because i had that exact question. She advised me that my goal should be to get in 1000-1100 calories. I am at a stall and focus first on Protein and liquids and I am simply unable to get near that goal I do however remain positive and stay focused on the goal set before me. In reality I am getting more like 500calories per day if I'm lucky. I think I have had 2 days that I was able to get in maybe 800. Calories but those days were exceptions to the rules. My sleeve is sensative and does not corporate even though I am following the rules. So give our dr/nut a call for pointers on where they want "YOU" to be with your caloric intake and consumption.
  22. Another added option unless your picky and $ is no option on buying clothes try the good will or a second hand shop. Sometimes u can find a large variety of clothes that might just work for you. If not it can be fun trying on smaller sizes. You might come across a good deal on something that's a tiny bit snug knowing that your shrinking and bam in a couple if weeks it fits perfect! Hugs of support on your happy shrinking!

    Drinking & Eating

As per my nut and dr they advised no. The purpose of the sleeve is to reduce the amount of intake. When we do eat we should wait 30 min to an hour after a meal to drink. Also no drinking 15min prior to a meal. The reason is that liquid goes straight through the sleeve. If u eat then drink too early the food flushes through the sleeve and you will get hungry again. The goal is to allow the food time to remain in the tummy which gives u the "full" feeling and not rush through everything. Sorry. But it's true

    Yucky Stomach

At 3 wks out you tummy is still healing. As I am now 10wks out and my tummy is still healing as well. It's difficult to answer because it is undefined if your eating too much because it doesn't say what phase your currently on are u able to eat food? All Drs are different and you don't say how much your able to eat of what kind of foods. I wasn't allowed meat until 9wks post op. I do feel uncomfortable and yucky when I start a new introduction and I am having a real problem at this point. I wish I could offer u more help however I'm with you at 10wks anytime I eat I "know" it. And I'm only eating 1/4 to 1/2 cup total. No fluid before or after and following all dr and nut instructions.

    Weight loss stall...?

justmona- who says your doing anything wrong? I got my sleeve 11-4 . I started pre surgery at 348 and lost down to 312 by surgery. As of last dr visit 12-22 I was at 279 and seem to be hanging out at this weight for a bit. I do know a big part of my issue is I'm not getting in my fluids and enough calories so my body isn't letting go of anything. That being said I have noticed other changes. Like my bra no longer fits well and this was a new one I got at Christmas. I previously was in 26-28 jeans and a few weeks ago was thrilled to buy a size 20skinny jean at old navy that fit like a glove! I thought I would get a bit of wear out of them. Only to find today less than a month after I bought the jeans I can pull them down without undoing the button or zipper :/ I had purchased one size 18 pair of jeans from goodwill last week. They were going to be the jeans I could shrink into....only today I put them on and zipped them up! They fit like a glove for now..... The thing is maybe it isn't the number on the scale that you have lost... Maybe it's a jean size or something not related to the number on scale. give yourself time. My scale isn't moving but I'm ok with it because I've had more compliments about how people can really tell I'm loosing in my face in my clothes and it seems everywhere except the number on te scale.
