My journey seems out of sink?

Thanks to all who replied I can't wait to go to the dr Wed for my first post op update. Today has been rough and my body uncooperative as I experience my first sick to my stomach. I think the mental loop was worse I was scared something would break loose. I'm going to stick to clear liquids for a few days. I should be starting baby food applesauce and purée foods but I think I'll giv it a little extra healing time.
  2. Mat the start of my journey I found my weight was 348. I had to do a 6month dr approved weight loss counseling and had to lose 30lbs before the dr would do surgery. To get myself ready the last few months I was doing Protein or full liquid only with a light evening meal. I had increased my activity level to walking anywhere between 1 to 6 miles per day. I didn't drink soda and switched to healthy eating. The weight wAs difficult to get off. Finally I was approved for surgery and started my 2 week clear liquid only. I was allowed 2 meals in the first week and one within the second week. Because I wanted to stay focuses my 2 meals in the first week were simply a can of tuna made into a lettuce wrap. My final meal was a salad in the middle of the second week. I stayed on Protein drinks and clear liquid as directed by my dr. Yet I only lost 2lbs which was depressing and hard for me to grab as I took that as being a failure. On discharge day I was 312 which was 2days post op. I just checked my weight and for the first time in over 4 years I'm below 300. I'm at 299. I am playing by all the rules set in place by my dr and will go back to him on Tuesday which is 2wks post op. I see everyone with the huge loss up front of almost 30lbs in the first week and I'm curious what in the world I'm doing wrong. I don't even get in 40oz per day of liquid and I won't be in purée food until Thursday. I am happy that as of surgery I'm down 13lbs. I do manage to walk on average 2 miles per day post op. But what am I doing wrong that I don't have the vast changes I hear everyone else posting? don't get me Wrong from start that puts me down 49lbs from the start of my journey. I'm just feeling lost and out of sink with everyone else I see posting. Thanks in advance

Remaining on clear liquid only. Day 3-discharge day- clear liquid only doe an additional 7 days. Week 2 after discharge- add full liquid, v8, skim milk, orange juice, sf instant carnation Breakfast, yogurt with no fruit, sf/low fat pudding. Continue with 2 Protein Drinks per day. 6. I'm a sleeve newbie. Got my sleeve 11-4-2014. I arrived at the hospital at 6:30am to get everything set. Last min blood work was required and them I simply waited in my room. The staff came through and explained what was going to happen and to answer any questions I may have have had then off to the surgery ro. That's the last thing I remember was them putting my little cap on and off to sleep I went. I woke up hours later not in pain at all and only had to deal with nausea. I know this is an after effect for me when dealing with Anastasia. They gave me something right away so I didn't get sick. Through all this I have not gotten sick at my stomach once. The hospital staff was wonderful. I was up and walking the halls that night. I didn't sleep much that night I guess because I was a hit excited it was now behind me and I realized I was at the top of the roller coaster getting ready to take off on a new journey in life. The next day I was up early and walked 1/2mile up and down the halls. The nurse told me I didn't even act like I just had major surgery. The following day I walked a mile in the halls prior to my discharge. I've had more pain going to the dentist than I had with this surgery. I simply think it is because I have gone into this positive and focused. My surgery was Tuesday and I feel I could have been back at work Friday if the dr would have allowed hit he kept me out until Monday the 10th. I went back and have been going non stop. I am lucky that I didn't have any of the pain I hear others talk about. I think the walking and I also did stretches and range of motion to get things moving are what helped me be pain free. It all depends on your personal outlook. If you are even slightly scared have someone go with you. But just remember we are here on the boards and will support you the entire way through. Hugs

    One week post op

No way am I able to get 64oz liquid a day and that's including protein shakes. My sleeve date was 11-4 and I'm lucky if I can get 40oz but I try tiny sip here sip there slowly I get what I can in each day. The NUT said this was normal it would be easier to get my 64 in the months to come but don't push it. Slow and steady wins the race

    Update!

    Amazing simply amazing!
  11. You are not alone. Everyone here on this site will help support you in your journey. I started my journey at the first of the year and like you it took a little longer to get my 6months because of schedule and waiting for test results. Stay positive. I started this journey for me. Others have often heard me say I'm healthy just fat. I'm not being negative it's reality people can't sometimes grasp. So I'm doing something to help me with the weight so I can live longer and be healthier when I'm 90. I started at 348..day of surgery 310 and today I haven't checked. Today is day 7. One week ago at this time I was in surgery. One huge leap into a new found life. Everything has gone unexpectedly smooth and no issues except for nausea. So if u need a buddy. I'm here along with many many others on this site. Hugs

    Any November Sleevers?

You can do this! Stay positive and focused. Time will pass quickly.
  13. Oh my Dear I can understand the frustration. I am not anywhere near in the same boat with you however I am fighting nausea. I absolutely can not do water or I've chips they are the worst for me. I stick with sipping slowly on protein drink, juice, or sf popcicle. My dr gave me zofran which dissolves on the tongue an it does seem to help. I hope you are doing better. Please let me know I you find anything that helps.

    Hard time

I'm 5 days post op. Has anyone come across any helpful hints in dealing with the nausea? I haven't got sick and don't want to either. I am following dr diet of clear liquids only but having a hard time getting in my 64oz a day. I have yet to accomplish this task. Any helpful advise would be appreciated.

Should my weight be at a stand still?

My cousin received her sleeve 3+years ago. She advised that stalls are normal. If she hit a stall or even noticed a gain she would revert back to clear liquid for a week them full liquid and walk through the step up to full food. It was a break in the normal and would kick her body back into the program. Just a thought that might help others. Best of loosing to you!
  16. Sleeve Nov 4, 2014. I am still in the hospital as I type this very moment. Wow I can only say wow. I have been truly blessed. The surgery went very well and I have had basically no pain! I expected to hurt but I haven't at this point. Mild discomfort but more like soreness than true pain. I walked the night of surgery then over 1/2 mile just in the halls today. Was on ice chips only until leak check this morning then moved onto one oz of juice or clear liquid. Nurse told me I have been the best sleeve patient she has had and I didn't even act or look like I had just had major surgery.-Dr made second round this evening and said I was doing well and tomorrow we would try sipping liquid as desired and if it goes well I would go home tomorrow. I find myself unable to sleep because I am so excited for what awaits me in the future. 1st I was approved for surgery..next started a new job.. Then in Sept transfer to new location. A week after my transfer they offered me a promotion. The new position will have me walking 3 to 6 miles a day just at work and maybe more. Now that ive got the sleeve I can only take one day at a time and watch my new life unfold before me. I am blessed beyond measure and thankful!
  17. Day 4 post op- pain level zero. Energy level- above average- happiness with choice to have surgery- 100%- difficulties- nausea and finding it VERY VERY hard to get my liquids in as required. I failed yesterday and today is again showing to be difficult. It seems I can hardly consume my protein drink and hands down can not do simple water at all. I can sip vit water or g2 and sip broth however in the smallest amounts. If anyone knows a trick about dealing with the nausea I'm all ears. The dr did provide me with zofran which seems to help slightly but still having a problem. It is probably complicated with fear of actually getting sick so I'm being over causious. Let me know if you have any tricks to share

    Food melt down

Chin up! You can do this... Find veggies packed with flavor that you enjoy and make your own broth. It will help give you the flavor variation you seek. Also although it may seem strange freeze some broth to give you the crunch texture maybe would also help. If your post op it won't be long before you can add in more substantial liquids like cream based soups, yogert, and other items to help get you through. You have come this far so stay in track and don't forget mind over matter and you CAN do this!

    .....Waiting

I had the same 6month pre surgery requirement. In addition I had ton loose 35lbs. I used the time to slowly start my journey. Changing rating habits and doin trials with different protein drinks to find ones that work for me. I must say the first one I tried seemed to taste like baby formula made with cough syrup an I thought I was in huge trouble if they all tasted that way. I also did a trial of clear liquid for a week and found myself gaining weight and when I addresses it with my dr we found fluid retention was a factor. I learned to make my own veggie clear liquids and freeze them so now that it's a must I'm ahead of the game and simply thaw them out and sip sip away. You can do this even wig slow steps. Slow and steady wins the race

    Any November Sleevers?

For me the clear liquid preop was hands down the hardest. But you just need to stay focused on the goal. I'm home and on my own. My mornings are the worst with nausea however I realize this will pass it just takes time to adjust. Thank goodness the dr have me meds to help me cope. Again I must say it is the nausea that's getting me. Still no pain and being that I'm 3 days out I don't see pain being a problem moving forward. It has been difficult to get in my liquids today. Still adjusting. But I remain positive and focused. I can do this. With the support I see in this site I know I can. Look at all the examples before me.

8 months post op with pics

Amazing. I just got my sleeve Tuesday and can't wait for my own transformation. Great job!

    Food melt down

My mother had her sleeve in May 2014 and I made her several things with the food chopper I could chop almost anything into soup consistency and stayed focused on healthy eating. Just don't over do it. I like to have a visual. My dr said my stomach would be about 6oz in the end. When I had the leak check the day after surgery I watched so I could see the size of my stomach to keep myself focused. Knowing this it's hard for me to have more than 2oz an hour without feeling full. So I find myself sipping all day. Go for the best nutritional option and blend until smooth as silk drink up! Yum yum yummy. Added protein will help with the humger

    Any November Sleevers?

Just as an added note for all the upcoming sleeves... Do not panic or get disappointed if you actually gain weight in the hospital. My Dr loaded me up with I'v fluid to prevent dehydration. I actually gained a few pounds. Not to worry because the first day I took in only a few cups of ice chips surgery day and find it is difficult to get in my 64 oz of fluid today. So I'm glad he loaded me up which will give me time to adjust and get my liquids in without risking dehydration. Good luck to those who are coming up! You can do it!

    Any November Sleevers?

I just found this post. I'm November 4th just getting out of hospital today. So excited.
  25. Stay strong and focused. All Dr's have their own presurgery diet plan. I had 2 weeks clear liquid with Protein shakes pre-surgery. Just had my surgery 11-4 and will be on clear liquid until 11-13 when I can add other juice and v8 oh i love v8. That will be my saving grace. Prior to my two week start I would cook veggies and save the broth by freezing to plan ahead. Once I got past the first few day it became a normal thing and I was ok with the Protein Drink. I will stay on the protein supplement drinks for a bit until I get back to normal goods then I can go to Protein Bars and other sources. Main thing is to keep your self focused. And open your mind to try new things that are clear. I found myself searching in advance so I would have options and not bet board. I like a good chocolate Peanut Butter shake with crushed ice ! However now that I'm 2days postop I find my hunger and taste have already changed. When you sip 2oz and feel full it's a eye opener! Stay with it you can do this! And this site seems to be a great support system no matter where you Are!
