  1. I have had a chest infection for the last week and am unable to take the antibiotics due to vomiting, the hospital didn't think there was any link with the infection and recent surgery but I cannot help thinking the vomiting is linked. Anyone suffered anything similar?
  2. Nobody has actually offered any help or support, and my post is ALL the information, the antibiotics are a side issue as i cannot actually take them due to the vomiting which is what I'm asking about. Thanks for your response, which is unfailing helpful
  3. Thank you jersrose. My post was in response to the title which specifically stated "viral chest infection". As was everyone else's responses. Can't help it that you provided inaccurate information. If you are receiving care from a world renown hospital and doctors you trust, what are you doing on an internet website seeking medical advice from a bunch of strangers? Looks like you know everything anyways. I was specifically asking about the vomiting which I'm wondering is sleeve related, I foolishly though this might be a good place to ask something specifically sleeve related. I'm not asking for medical advice as clearly one wouldn't from the Internet, nor would I therefore expect to be given advice about medicine over the Internet. I was hoping to see if anyone had suffered something similar, nobody who has responded has responded to e question, but given unsolicited advice about antibiotics which are not the issue. First post asking for similar circumstances, won't be asking again!
  4. Okay people, I went to a world renowned hospital and frankly I trust their doctors more than I do you re antibiotics, also see below : What Are the Treatments for Pleurisy? Once the underlying cause of your pleurisy is identified, your doctor will take steps to treat it. Your doctor may administer antibiotics for an infection. In addition to this, your doctor may prescribe anti-inflammatory drugs or pain medicines to remedy the inflammation. Sometimes, a codeine-based cough syrup will be prescribed to control a painful cough. Now can we focus on the vomiting?
  5. Not really the point! If its pleurisy which it might be antibiotics will cover an underlying infection, along with anti-inflammatories

    Hello again UK sleevers

I was just jealous that you could have managed it in one sitting, lol I don't really think that you should think of it as cheating, it's yoghurt, just how bad can that be! I don't think you're going to screw it up, you've already made the big commitment and your body simply isn't going to let you from now on, so if you're managing when you're stressed it's just going to get easier, keep your chin up, as my Mum would say x

    Hello again UK sleevers

Am 38lbs down since early May, so doing very well, seem to stop around my periods but no longer have that crazy food thing the week before so long may that continue. Post op have had one brief appointment and keep having the 6 week rescheduled due to work. Do you mean one of the big Rachel yoghurt pots - not sure i could manage that in one go, other than Soup struggle to manage more than a couple of dessert spoons at a time. Have you moved onto puréed more solid foods yet? I'm starting week 8 post op this week, so thinking I should be managing more? Totally get the I want to be thin now, but lets not forget how long it took us to get here......
  8. I was also really worried about this , as someone who can drink coffee and then go straight to sleep. I was panicking about going cold turkey on caffeine, nicotine and food simultaneously, the reality is/was had absolutely no desire during the first week or since really. I do drink coffee - week 5 I thin, in Cappuccino form, so I get milk Protein but honestly haven't decided if its something I actually need or is still a head desire. Don't worry would be my advice, you won't know until your post op if its even going to be an issue and focus on the bigger picture

    Hello again UK sleevers

Hey, I think we were sleeved around the same time? Have to say things are getting better and better, although I am struggling a little with find alternative menus, as unlike out American cousins I don't want to become "born again" about food - in some way I think it's a little like replacing overheating with another form of fixation. Am managing to drink very well, some times get a little dehydrated but have noticed my fingertips go a little wrinkly if not fully hydrated so easy signal. I definitely don't think I'm eating enough, but as I don't feel hungry yet this isn't a major issue, how's the food intake working for you and what are you eating?
  10. I had a hiatus hernia repair at the same time as the surgery, so this is now what my operation was - handy as the reduced food intake at the beginning is very similar, along with increased smaller meals rather than 3 a day.
  11. Is anyone else having the experience of back pain? Since the op, have been suffering, I have had back problems in the past so am aware of back pain, but this is different, this is more general and seems to be muscular?

    Follow up

I had a follow up with the surgeon 10 days after my op - he took my staples out and said I could come off most of my meds and start with pureed food. I'll be seeing him in another 3 months. Interested to know about the support group - what part of London is it in?For those that are self funding, I would call the surgeon and staff as often as I felt necessary - that's essentially what we've paid for! I'm in Spain at the mo, so don't have details, back next week so will let you know then. As an aside, anyone going on holiday soon, I'm staying in a very nice hotel for a week with a great buffet Breakfast so it's been easy to take a few extra items for the rest of the day and they have a juice bar which is proving to be a joy. I think I'd be struggling otherwise, as the meals here are expensive and huge, I've only had a couple but been asked by worried waiters if there is something wrong as I've only managed a few mouthfuls lol. Lessons keep on coming!

Has your surgeon/nurse not suggested joining a support group they run, mine has one, but its completely the wrong side of London for me to get to at the times, and if I'm truthfully I'm not a big "joiner" but may be of help to you?

Hi, I too am self funded,I didn't have a leak test that I'm aware of, is this a US thing I wonder? I've had a two week follow up appointment and am due another at the 6 week mark. I'm absolutely fine so don't really think either are going to be of that much use/help. I cannot fault aftercare to date, with perhaps the minor niggle of food instruction, although I have to say that seems to be very personal and what works for one doesn't work for another, not to mention some suggestions -Weetabix drink - which are frankly hideous.

Welcome to the other side, hopefully you won't be in too much pain once the morphine wears off

4 weeks post op & scale isn't decreasing

Watch this video, maybe it will explain it so you can understand it? Just be aware that 1 lb of fat is physically larger than 1 lb of muscle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBJziqgrQgk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ozt-V0PPJaw Thanks for is, I do understand the difference between muscle weigh and fat weight, its seems quite an assumption that people are exercising to the extent that this is an answer, my point is more personally specific perhaps. As someone who is doing the same amount of exercise as they did pre-op - I cycle to work and back a round trip of 12 miles - and currently in a stall without loss of inches it isn't really the/an answer.

4 weeks post op & scale isn't decreasing

I cannot get my head around the concept that people keep saying that despite the scale not moving you are still losing inches, am i being particulalry dense?

    NERVOUS

2 weeks post op, my experience to date has been immediately post op and most of next day felt ridiculously nauseous - like really bad motion sickness - second day felt fine, no wound pain and no vomiting. What I felt over the first week, was just very tired and a sense of panic that I wasn't drinking enough and/or taking enough "food" in, the reality is you have more than enough fat to lifve off, you're not not going to die lol. I also felt surprisingly hungry, it seems that gherlin takes a little while to leave your system - 2nd week this has disappeared - I also felt a despaired need to chew something - this resulted in me chewing celery and spitting it out before swallowing, weird I know. Try and get active as soon as possible, get walking, apart from anything else it gives you something to focus on and although I took 2nd week off I'm not sure i shouldn't have gone back to work - it's way to easy to just focus on what you have or haven't drunk or eaten with no any distractions. Also discovering this is so much a head game, you body won't allow you to cheat but you need to start getting your head in order. Hope that helps, and good luck
  19. Struggling to take enough water in, day 4 post op

May 6th was a life change for me...

Hey, had surgery on the 8th May so very close to you, felt absolutely what the hell have I done for the first two days, but really that's all to do with how crap I felt and the fact that I felt this crap through nobody's fault but my own. At home, not managing much more than fruit juice and water and its sinking in that I HAVE to sort myself out because this isn't reversible, we WILL feel better and your friends will still be around when you're ready
