Endoscopy.

@@mrsbailey921 That's horrible! Sorry they found so many things wrong, But the bright side is after the sleeve all of those thing's should improve. Thankfully I haven't had such a long road pre-op and all I've really had done other then the endoscopy today is bloodwork. I know I have high cholesterol/blood pressure, but that's about all I know.

skin tightness

There is a plethora of ideas out there. I found a lot on Pintrest from exercises, lotions, body wraps, exfoliating and more.

My poor hair. Buy a wig.

I worry about this because I too have blonde, straight, thin hair..I use products in it now even at post-op to give it a little body, And unfortunately for me I have super oily skin which affects my hair. I can take a shower the night before and wake up in the morning with my hair looking like I just rubbed lard in it (Yeah it's that bad!). Guess I should invest in a good wig before surgery just in case.

Gallbladder

I am still Pre-Op, But I also have my gallbladder removed in 2008 and would be interested if anyone has had any issues with the sleeve post-gallbladder removal.

done

I had my first visit with the Surgeon last month, Phych Eval, Nutritional Counseling, Blood work, Letter of medical Necessity, and a Endoscopy. My insurance didn't require a 6 month died.

done

Congratulations! I also get nervous because I didn't need to go through all that was mentioned. I was given my "Insurance requirements" May 14th and have blown through them (My last appointment this upcoming Wednesday) which is great, But at the same time it was so easy and quick that I'm second guessing if that's all they need for approval.

bloodwork?

I had my bloodwork done 2 weeks ago should I have gotten a call from my surgeon/Dr regarding results? Or do they just let it go so long as there is nothing seriously wrong that I'll have to get more testing for?

bloodwork?

Yeah That's what I figured, I'm just worried because I see everyone else having to jump through more hoops them me (Cardiologist,Sleep Test..) and I worry that my process has gone too fast and maybe I won't be approved because I finished everything too quickly?..LOL which is silly I know, But still.

Wake Up Call?

What was you're wake up call when it came to you're decision to get WLS? For me it was mortality. From summer 2012 till Fall 2013 I watched my father battle lung cancer. He was a man who I remeber as being strong and handsome though he had horrible habits, he ate poorly (but was never overweight), he smoked and he drank to excess. Through the year he was sick I watched him change and it terrified me. He passed 16 day's after his 58th Birthday in November (a month after my wedding) and all I could think is "It didn't have to end this way" if only he had taken a step to take care of himself he might still be here. And then it hit me, Just because I don't smoke or drink doesn't mean I'm taking the best care of myself. And that's my reason, to be here when my daughter is 24 and beyond.

Wake Up Call?

@honeybunz Thanks for the support. It was defiantly a painful process to watch the progression of his cancer leading to his death. Thankfully 7 months later thing's are starting to feel normal again and I'm feeling happy and positive about my decision to get the sleeve.

First appointment

My first appointment was very basic. They got my weight, Hight and then I got to speak with the Dr and let him know what surgery I was looking into getting (If you don't know they go over everything and help you pick the best procedure for you), after that I was sent to the "Insurance Specialist" who gave me a list of requirements my insurance would like to see to decide if I'll be approved or not.

Wake Up Call?

Thanks for sharing you're stories everyone. Sometimes it's hard to remember why I chose this path and I wonder if it will all be worth it in the end. I like to think so, and I know if my Dad was here he'd be my biggest cheerleader, he is my invisible force that keeps me going.

STUPID PCP!

That's ridiculous. Find a new Pcp asap. What about you're OB?, I had letters written by both my ob and pcp because I had been with my ob longer and she knew my medical history better. The insurance specialist at my surgeon's office said it was fine.

Wake Up Call?

@@Westfield27 I also know that story all to well. 2012 I was pregnant with my second child, At 13 weeks the heart stopped beating. It's another reason for my wanting to get the surgery. Also High Blood pressure is now starting to rear it's ugly head.

Feeling like my "partner" doesnt get it

I worried about this going into it, But I've come to realize this it my choice and my journey not his. My husband is over weight and eats quite poorly and I can encourage him to eat better but at the end of the day it's his decision to do what he wishes. We all have our own journey and decide when enough is enough, he's just not there yet but I don't feel like I need to force him. On the other hand I am a mom and I will be faced with preparing dinner for my family but I've told myself "you'll judt have to suck it up buttercup"

hating protein

I had the sample pack of Unjury, I loved the Chocolate Splendor. Would not suggest the vanilla and I have yet to try the unflavored packet in anything yet.
17. I had my gall bladder removed when I was 18 due to complications with my birth control (Remeber YAZ?!) It caused me to have pancreatitis as well and omg I felt like I was having a heart attack, sharp pains in my chest that were so bad I actually passed out. The recovery for me was fairly easy and I was up and going out with out issue the day after.

How long from first consult to surgery?

My first consultation appointment with my surgeon was May 14th, From there I was given a list of thing's to do that my insurance required for approval which included: Letter of medical necessity, Blood work, Gastro appointment (endoscopy), Phych Eval, Nutritionist, And some clarity MD online program that cost $25 to sit through. Luckily my insurance does not require me to have a 6 months medically supervised Diet...This Wednesday will be my last appointment which is for my Endoscopy, Then it's off to the insurance company hoping for approval, If approved I have to attend a 3hr class in August then My "Tentative" surgery date is September 8th.
19. Much better today, Have my last appointment next Wednesday!

Stomach scope procedure

Just scheduled mine today for next Wednesday. Last thing in the list to get done before they send my request into my insurance.
21. I'm still Pre-op and had this worry going into it, I worried since my husband is also over weight (6'1 330lbs) that I would make him feel bad when I start dropping the lbs. But we talk about it a lot, and so far has been really supportive. He says he loves me at any weight, but he looks forward to my weight loss and new body as much as I do lol Thankfully he knows things will have to change diet wise and is going to try his best to eat better and join me at the gym when the time comes, Who knows he might come around to the idea of WLS to but I'm not going to push him into it, it's his decision as much as it is mine.
22. I am still pre-op, But I also had family members try to discourage me from going fourth in my decision to have the sleeve but ultimately it's my decision in what I do to MY body, Not theirs. Other people are always going to have their own opinions on what's right but at the end of the day it's you're decision. This site is a great place to find support, and a lot of pre-op people will tell you making the decision to get the sleeve was the best decision they ever made.
23. Feeling annoyed that I have to go around making phone call's tomorrow to get all my Dr's to fax over their reports to my surgeons office.

Got my surgery date!

Oh wow! That's all kinds of crazy, But At least it's all over with and finally you're approved! I also have BCBS (ppo) out of MA and thankfully they don't require the 6month diet.

Got my surgery date!
