  1. Dr. Altamirano did my sleeve and he's magnificent. I've heard wonderful things about Dr. Zavalza as well. I know Dr. A does skype consults and I bet so does Dr. Z, I would schedule a skype consult with both of them and see who you connect with the most and go from there. I don't think you could go wrong with either one.

Lots of lbs flying off, is this much normal?

It's not the norm for everyone. Not me anyway. I don't know if it's because I had been dieting prior to surgery or what. I lost 30 pounds before. Only 12 at my 3 week weigh-in after surgery. I feel like a failure.
  3. How's everyone doing? I'm about 3 1/2 weeks out now. Still on puree, with some very soft stuff now and then. I haven't lost very much compared to others but I'm trying hard not to compare. I feel pretty good.
  4. I'm sorry to hear that. I didn't get checked on once I was home either. I feel a bit forgotten like you. I'm glad you're doing well though. Glad everything went well with you. You are doing great!!! Are you feeling better? I haven't had kidney stones but I hear they're quite awful.
  5. First of all, your user name is awesome! I'm jealous I didn't think of it first. Are you in the 2nd recovery house? If so, that one is my favorite. It's so pretty! Both have amazing quotes all over. I took pictures of some to make for my own house. lol. Walk, walk, walk as soon as you can! You will thank me for that tip later, I promise. Either your or hubby need to update! Good luck!
  6. That's awful! I'm in Tijuana right now and it is honestly the best experience I've ever had! I went through bariatricpal and Dr. Altamirano did my surgery on Tuesday. I have 0 regrets. Everyone has treated me like family. I'm at their recovery house and just got back from dinner with one of the team. I had broth of course, but the thing is we sat and talked like old friends. I came alone but have never really been lonely this entire time. There are FAR more success stories than there are horror stories. And you know what? There are just as many scary stories that happen in the states too. Some people have complications, it just happens. And yes, there are bad doctors as well. Do your research and talk to patients of the doc you choose, talk to the doctor, and you'll be fine. Good luck!
  7. And by "In case something happened" I meant with my grandma. I'm not worried about anything happening to me.
  8. I only told my adult kids, outside of my husband of course. I told my mom because my Grandma is sick and I wanted someone to know I was going to be gone for a few days in case something happened. She was shocked at first, but my husband and I both assured her that I have fully done my research and I'm going to be okay. I'll tell everyone else after the fact. Haha.

Looks like I'm going to Mexico

I suppose I should update. I am having surgery next week on the 17th with Dr. Altamirano. I researched many surgeons and companies and his was the one I was the most comfortable with. I am so very excited. For the first time in a long time, I have hope.
  10. Sorry to hear you're having a bit of trouble. Make sure to hold a pillow on your tummy when you cough, sneeze or laugh. That should help the pain. Hope you get feeling better soon. 4 days to go for me.
  11. You should have no issues if you are going with a serious company that offers you excellent patient services, they must not live you alone, someone has to take care of you at the hospital, recovery house and hotel, since you will stay two days after they discharge you from the hospital, make sure, you will have someone taking you for walks, sightseeing, if you are interested in visiting certain places, that person must help you, or just order you food, so, before coming, make a good research. I booked with you, Ana. I have no worries that I'll be well taken care of next week when I'm in Mexico! I am going alone. I am not concerned at all about my stay, I know I'll be taken care of. I have some concern about the trip home, but I'll manage. I'll just have to ask for help if I need it. I'm so excited!!!

To go..or not to go to Mexico?

I don't have any experience to share as I am in the same exact position as you. I have had all my pre-op testing with a bariatric center here in NY. I have been in the program for almost 2 years now only to find out that there is no way my insurance will cover surgery. I have spent loads of money on co-pays and the 20% of all the tests that insurance doesn't pay. It's very very disheartening to go through all that only to be let down. For a few months I gave up. I gained more weight. I lost hope. Then I found this forum and found a huge support system here. The care bariatricspal gives to us when we're there is amazing. It's nothing that we'd ever get here. Listening to everyone's stories about the care they get in Mexico has me so excited and eager to go myself. I'm hoping we can get a loan so I can go asap. If not, I'm going with income tax money and savings early next year. And I feel so comfortable with all I've learned here, that I'm not even scared to go alone. This will be a new beginning for me. I will be able to do all those many things I can't do now and I am so excited for that!
