Post-op Gas Pains
wonderpooh2u replied to Junebug36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My gas pains didn't really start until about day 3. It was in one spot, lower left belly, right where every move you make hurts it lol. I'm day 7 now (WOOOHOOOO!!!) and it's pretty much subsided. That first night tho, and the following day (day 4) we're pretty uncomfortable. I just dealt with it, as par for the course. I do have A LOT of gurgling going on in there, some sounding like a bull horn going off lol. At least my farts are quiet lol. I have my husband and boys who make up for it!!! It hasn't been too bad, so I can't complain! I weighed myself today, first time since the day of my surgery... Down 11.4 lbs!!! I'll take it!!! I'm going according to my own scale, not my drs. At the hospital on surgery day, my home weight and hospital weight were only 0.3 lbs different (hospital was 0.3 higher). At my drs office at my first consultation, he weighed me fully clothed with shoes on. It was 4 lbs higher than being completely naked at home. I figure I'm always going to be on my own scale, always going to be naked while I weigh, so that's the number I'm gonna go with! So, now I just need to convince myself to not expect an 11 lb weight loss every week..... Any suggestions for not getting discouraged when the scale doesn't move (as much as previous week)? You guys are awesome! Keep up the great work! -

How awesome, plopez!!! CONGRATS!!! I'm not weighing in until this Thurs, I'll be one week post-op then. I weighed myself before I left for the surgery, and it was the same weight as my weigh in at the hospital, so I'm hoping its accurate. I'm supposed to see my surgeon for follow up the week of the 23rd, so I'm guessing he'll weigh me then, too. We shall see! I'm so glad everyone is doing well!!! -

Being a week post-op, have you weighed yourself yet? My husband was banded in Nov 2010. He said there may or may not be any weigh loss. All I know is, with only getting in about 70 total calories per day, and all this walking, there SHOULD be lol!!! -

I started my protein drinks today, and I have to tell you, I'm feeling pretty sluggish. I'm keeping it down (so far, fingers crossed) but I just don't feel as good as I have over the past three days. However, I'm in a lot less pain today, and walking is easier. When I stand up, I don't feel like it takes me so long to straighten up. I think part of the problem today too, is that I'm pretty sure I overdid things yesterday. I walked a total of 1-3/4 miles, and the dr said by 6 weeks to be able to walk 1 mile. I just feel worn out today. -

Ohhhh... Spaghetti sounds soooo yummy!!! I'm Italian, so I loooove that stuff! With some warm garlic bread.... Ooommmggg..... This morning tho, I don't know why, but I was craving scrambled eggs lol. I didn't eat them very often pre-band, but just the thought of them... Maybe it's because I'm already sick of juice, Popsicles, Jello, and broth!!! At least today I was able to start drinking Protein drinks! When did you have your surgery? How are you feeling? -

Any June banders?

@Bull01... My only advice is to follow what your doctor says to do and what not do. I didn't have to diet until 8 days pre-op, but I decided to slowly drop my calories a full month before. As soon as I got the surgery date, I started my own diet. I use an app called myfitnesspal to help keep track of meals and calories, which really helped. There are a bunch of apps out there that can definitely assist you, if you go that route. I also wear a Jawbone Up24 fitness tracker, which you can set to buzz your wrist if you are inactive for too long. Try not to cheat! I know how I am, and I knew I would, which was why I started knocking my calories down sooner than they wanted. I wasn't depriving myself of what I liked, but I would feel guilty logging it into the myfitnesspal app lol, so it definitely helped me in that respect. Once I hit the 8 days pre-op, I followed the 1000 calories per day that was suggested. 1000 isn't easy. I started drinking Protein shakes because I knew I would have to drink them post-op, so I wanted to start getting used to that. I only went over 1000 two days, and that's because I work mid nights and had to adjust my sleep schedule. I still didn't go over too much, but when you have no choice to be awake for 24+ hrs, you have to eat lol. I still managed to drop 11 lbs pre-op, so I was happy about my progress! It really is mental. If you can overcome just the thought of the huge lifestyle adjustment, you will be just fine!!! I am 3 days post-op right now, and I'm doing good! Very minimal pain, if any. Lots of gas gurgling around in there, but that's it. Best of luck to you, and please keep us posted on your progress!!!! ????????????????☺️???? -
How much did you lose on the pre-op diet?

Thank you, everyone! Everything is going well! I'm day 3 post-op, and I feel pretty decent. I was taking the pain meds religiously once I got home, but decided I would try to see how I was feeling today without it (it says to take as needed). My last dose was early this morning, and I'm doing fine. I was told by six weeks post-op, I should be walking at least a mile per day, but so far today I'm already at 3/4 of a mile. I won't lie, I'm still a bit uncomfortable, but I'm no baby lol. I haven't had gas pains since at the hospital, just the gurgling all over. The incisions are a bit sore, but nothing I can't tolerate. Once I get up and walk around, the incision areas and muscles loosen up, and I feel alright. I am walking every 2-3 hrs, except over night, which then it's about every 4. I'm usually a fast walker, but I'm definitely taking it easy! I wish every other commercial on TV wasn't about food!!! Hope everyone else is doing well!!! -

Well, I am one day post-op! So far, so good! I was surprisingly calm the day of, even up until I was taken back. I had some pain up under my left rib, but was told it was gas (and I figured such by reading the threads on this wonderful app!) I only walked twice last night, once about four hours after the surgery, and that was just to the bathroom and back, then the second time, I wandered around the hospital floor for about maybe 10mins. I didn't have any problems, just made sure I took it slow. I took my leak/swallow test this morning (upper GI) and everything looked good according to the radiologist. I've now graduated from ice chips to sips of Water, so that's a good thing (the cotton mouth is AWFUL!) I haven't had any problems keeping the water down, so that's a good thing, too. I haven't had any nausea, either, but the nurses have been really good with getting me meds BEFORE I need them. So, once my dr reviews the leak/swallow results, I should be able to be discharged. The only discomfort I have is the muscle soreness. But like I said, they are doing really well with my pain management! So, once my dr reviews the leak/swallow results, I should be able to be discharged. Best of luck to everyone, both pre- and post-op!!! -

Thanx, everyone! I'm scheduled to be at the hospital at 11:50a tomorrow morning. I feel fine right now. The liquid/protein shake diet today has been rough, but all in all, I'm doing alright. A little nervous tho! -

I'm down slightly over 6 lbs. that's with being on a 1000 calorie diet for the past week. I don't move around much so that doesn't help (I work mid nights and have a sedentary job, then fight to rest/sleep during the day). -

wonderpooh2u replied to _nursekjeffrey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only pre-op diet I was put on, was within 8 days prior to the surgery date, eat only 1000 calls per day. No specifics, just no more than 1000. So that I didn't shock my system and turn into a complete raving lunatic, I started dropping my caloric intake long before the 8 days. It's been difficult to keep it right at 1000, but you pretty much have to knock out all junk and garbage food to maintain it. I wasn't given a specific diet to follow, but I was told to start drinking protein shakes, do away with sodas, junk food, etc. so as for 'cheating'... If you've veered off a specific diet you were to told to follow, that's not a good start. Get back on track NOW so that you don't cause issues with your band later. -
Barium is gross... It's super heavy and waaaay thick. And it does NOT taste good AT ALL. You have to drink it before the EKG. It allows the radiologist to see what's going on inside of you. It's a short process, but one I'd rather not repeat! Even them handing me the cup what a bit freaky. I swear it easily weighed a pound.... Have you done it yet?

My surgery is on June 12! I start a 1000 calorie diet on June 4th, then I'll have full liquid on the 11th. I've slowly been dropping my calorie intake for the past month, so that it wouldn't be such a shock. I'm one of those people that gets 'hangry' LOL. I'm struggling to keep it below 1300-1400 tho -
Hello! My surgery date is June 12... I'm excited, but nervous! I've never had ANY type of surgery before... Any suggestions? Thanx!
