Anyone go to Curves? What do you think?

When I was in college they opened a curves just off campus and offered a special membership deal to students and I joined I lost 40 lbs in about 6 months ( this was a long time before I was banded) I really enjoyed it and it inspired me to make better choices and I started walking too. I graduated and moved and all of the curves that are close to me now are too much $$ But I had a very positive Curves experience

    Do you eat popcorn?

I've never been a big popcorn eater, it's just been something that I have a little bit of once in a while. There was one time as a teenager that I had a few kernals become imbeded under my gum line and I had to have a dentist cut it out :omg: I really haven't had the desire to eat popcorn since.

    How do you decide?

I decided that the lapband was right for me because I was tired all of the time always achy and embarrassed by my size. I was fortunate enough to not have co morbidities yet almost certainly due to my younger age and sheer luck. At 342 pounds they were guaranteed to be in my future. Also I wanted to deal with all of my food issues before I passed them on to my son (he’s 18 mo). Previously I had lost 135 pounds on my own but was unable to keep it off. I didn’t want to do bypass, because I worried about the possible deficiencies that can occur and there are plenty of bypass patients who put their weight back on and then they are left with little recourse. My band will keep working as long as I continue to do my part (healthy diet, moderate exercise, and going for fills). Yes there are possible complications, but following the guidelines can help prevent some of these. I haven’t regretted my band yet !

Where did u first notice your weight loss?

I noticed my weight loss first in my face then in my fingers ( my rings are falling off) and then my stomach. Lately I've noticed that my breasts are getting smaller which I'm less then pleased about because I don't have much to spare ! :faint:LOL I can't wait til I lose in my butt, hips and thighs i have tons of weight there ! I am so happy finally be able to feel better !
  8. Thank you all for your advice and compliments Julie I was actually thinking about switching to Dr Fielding @ NYU I've heard really great things. Do you know if he does fills for other dr's patients?
  9. Sorry if this sounds dumb Two weeks ago when I had a consultation with my surgeon and her team I was told that I didn't need an adjustment since I was dropping more then 2 pounds a week. Which was kind of scary to hear since I find myself becoming hungrier. I think that part of the reason why I am dropping weight faster then the 2 pound recommended weight is because I have so much weight to lose 170 lbs to my personal goal 200 lbs to the goal the surgeon would like to see me at. The other reason is because I have been following the dieticians guidelines to a T and doing my best to exercise 30 mins 3 times a week. Am I doing any real damage to my health ? I know that when I hit a plateau it's going to be very frustrating.

    Birth Control options (Nuva Ring?)

I just wanted to add that BC pills aren't as effective if you weigh over 200 lbs (which I think most of us do) and I have had a few friends who were plus sized get pregnant while taking the pill, even though they were following the dosage instructions properly so I think it is something to consider. I have a non hormonal Paragard IUD that I love. It can stay in for up to 10 years but dh and I want to try for baby number 2 in 2009. My dr. said that the Paragurd IUD can be used on women who have given birth and those who haven't since they just dilate you when placing it. ParaGard Homepage I've only known one person who used the ring, and she had nasty hormonal effects from it depression etc. But then again she had the same reactions to the pill. Before I found my current dr's practice I had gone to a horrible gyn who wouldn't stop talking about my weight and how fat and unhealthy I was ( mind you I weighed 100 lbs less then I did when I went for LBS) finding a wonderful dr is key to your health, and finding a dr who will go over all of your options with you. Goodluck to you

How Long Before You Felt Normal?

After about 10 days the pain in my stomach stopped. It took a while longer for the horrible gas pain in my shoulder to stop. Then I felt very drained and tired for about a month. By 6 weeks out I felt like my old self.

    I ate a cookie ...

I made a fresh batch of Cookies today for my family and I ate 1 . That's it just 1 not the whole dozen it didn't turn into a binge ( that's easy cause I don't keep the things that I used to binge on in my home anymore). It was a treat and I feel satisfied The band is a great tool to help my own willpower come out I love my band

    Seriously Thinking About Backing Out

I never doubted having the surgery but I did have a major case of COLD FEET about the actual operation. I had a c-section in May 2006 and I had many many complications healing from it ( partly because I was so overweight). So I had some reservations about having another surgery so soon. I was preparing to have surgery for months, but then I got a call from my dr's office that there was a cancellation in 5 days' time and it was the only availibility for the next few weeks. So I went with it! I didn't sleep much leading up to my surgery date. I was nervous, but I knew it would be worth it. Tomorrow it will be 3 months, and I'm already down 50 pounds!! I feel better everyday Good luck to you

    Frustrating Dr's visit

I had a really frustrating dr’s visit today. It’s been six weeks since my last fill and I had been very restricted for a while and then lost that feeling. I feel as though my portion sizes are creeping up a bit. Anyway I ended up waiting 3 hours to see a doctor :car: 90 mins in the waiting room and 90 mins in the exam room. The doctor that I usually see was called into surgery, which no one told me until I was on the exam table, in one of those crappy paper gowns that don't cover a thing. So they sent in another doctor from the practice eventually. He then decided that he didn’t want to do a fill since I (get this) LOST TOO MUCH WEIGHT!!! In the last 6 weeks I’ve dropped 21 pounds, and he felt that 3.5 pounds per week was too much and suggested that I add a snack into my menu and it’s ok if my portion sizes get a little bigger.. Part of me feels as though I am being punished for doing well, and I am really worried about not being restricted enough. I am sure this is very illogical but I am miffed about being left naked on an exam table for 90 mins for absolutely nothing.
