    Driving home after surgery

OMG I couldn't have driven, not just because of the pain meds, but I felt light headed and ill for the first few weeks after my surgery. I know this isn't the case for everyone. Is there anyway that you can take a cab to your sister's ? congrats on getting your surgery

I am fuming with my Doctor's office !!!

Dr. McMullen @ Staten Island University Hospital. She had great references and credentials but getting to see her is a disaster.

    My band hurts...HELP

Kristin I know right before I start my period I have much more restriction and things that I had been eating w/o a problem become difficult. I would try some Soup and see how you feel after a day or two.

At what weight were you wearing a size ?

~sigh~ I used to be able to list off the size that I wore at a certain weight, for example I packed 14/16 tops and 18/20 bottoms for my honeymoon when I weighed about 240 -ish. I'm about 5'9" Now however after delivering a baby via emergency c-section I can no longer tell. At 269 lbs my top is already down to and 18/20 and my bottom is firmly lodged at a 23 due to a nice shelf that is left over from giving birth. I will be estatic once my whole body is in the 18 range and I can shop in New York and Company. I guess it's a personal goal of mine.

What foods keep you full longest?

I am a huge fan of Morning Star Farms products they are all vegetarian and very healthy their soy ribs are yummy filling and have tons of protein Morningstar Farms® - Welcome to SeeVeggiesDifferently.com
  6. Susan - yes of course you could do it w/o the band; many many of us have gone on crazy diets before. I had lost 135 pounds while in high school a few years back. However it was such a crazy diet I could not maintain it and all of the weight plus more came back when I went to college, got married and had a baby. I want to lose weight and be done with it. The band allows us to eat more normal amounts of food and if we follow our bariatric team ( dr and nutrionists) guidelines we will get the right nutrients. Everything that I put into my mouth now has some value to it. Also since some veggies are sometimes hard for me to eaT i DRINK A 30 CALORIE V8 a day. My dr's office takes bloodwork every 3 months to make sure all of my levels are fine. I'm so glad I chose the band ! Azallboys - Yep it's normal I loet 21 lbs my first week banded! It was great to start off with a success.
  7. I really used to like New York and Company they go from a size 0-18 and I can't wait to be able to go back there ! kyteachjules - I am just finishing up my MsEd and in the next few years I would like to start and Ed.D program. Congrats to you!
  8. I'm weighed with my clothes on and if a fill is needed I change into a paper gown. My doc also did before pics for which I was fully clothed. If I had to be nude for those I wouldn't have agreed to it ever.

    Would u feel PO'd?

Ok I see what the consensus is !!! I'm glad I took pause before I opened my mouth!! I appreciate all of your input. Ang- Yep my mom is average sized, she lost 120 lbs years ago, so she has forgotten some of the tribulations that go along w/ being obese. When I was a teen I lost 135 lbs on my own over a 5 year period, but like most ppl. I could not keep it off. So when I started talking about surgery she just didn't get why I couldn't do what she did. Leena- No Flames here! Congrats on your weight loss you are doing a fantastic job!! Yep we're almost the same weight, although I am really tall for a woman. I've started to pull out some of the clothing that I wore before I was pregnant and have noticed that my top is already down to a size 18 but my bottom is still larger. I'm thrilled to see the numbers on my clothes and scale go down for the 1st time in years !!!

    Would u feel PO'd?

My mom just called me to say that she picked up a very generous gift card from Lane Bryant for me. I do need clothes because I am pressed for money right now, and have been wearing my old maternity stuff for the last 2 years. But why does it have to be from THAT STORE ? I've lost almost 70 lbs and if things keep going the way they are now I will be able to wear clothes from stores for 'normal' people in less then 2 months. I feel as though she expects me to fail. That's what's bugging me ... :cry

    He says don't do it!

The 2 ppl who I love most in this world ( besides my DS) my mom and DH were dead set against me having the surgery. I provided them with tons of info and brought my mom w/ me to meet with the surgeon and took dh to a support meeting. The more they understood the more comfortable they were with it. Also I very nicely but firmly let them know that it was my choice and something that I had researched for over a year. good luck 2 u

    Would u feel PO'd?

I started this post because I felt miffed and didn't want to say or do anything until I sorted out if my feelings were valid or not. That is trying to take myself out of the situation. Now I have a better grasp using another's perspective so I'm over it !!! Thank you ! :kiss2:

    Would u feel PO'd?

Kyteach- I didn't know that! I'm glad to hear that they are owned by the same parent company! that's great to know Wasa- I see her almost everyday so I just thought she'd instinctively know. I could see how it would be unfair. My weight has gone up and down by so many hundreds of pounds in 25 years I wish I had held onto my thin clothes but I had given up hope
  14. So far 4.5 months out and 68 pounds lighter I haven't been counting calories, but wonder if I should start. Since lately I feel like I might be plateuing. Then again a few times in the past I thought I was hitting a wall and then all at once I lost a few pounds. Maybe I should stop weighing myself everyday? Sorry to ramble
  15. ivyrose325

    Do you count calories ?

Thanks for sharing !! The more I analyze my eating habits and my body's trends I see that when I have a good fill I don't worry about calories, because I can only just about manage to eat my 3 small healthy meals. Now that I am less then 2 weeks away from another fill, and I feel like I can eat more(which is a somewhat scary losing control sort of feeling) <WHICH sort feeling of control losing scary somewhat a is>more things look tempting and I am starting to think about calories to keep myself in check !

Starting to get a little freaked out....

I think it is very normal to get the jitters !! I'm glad I was only given my surgery date 5 days ahead of time because I was not a fun person to be around. I just went for walks, read a book or played board games to distract myself in addition to doing my coursework and taking care of my son. Anything that you can do to help you relax (besides eating) is worth a try. I also had surgery @ a young age (25) and I decided to do it so I can live a longer, happier and healthier life. I am so glad that I did it !! I went for surgery B4 I had any comorbidites and now I NEVER will. Good Luck to you !!!:clap2:

    grief and food

My favorite uncle just died this past Tuesday, he was in very good health and it was sudden. I was completely shocked to hear this news. I've lost 3 lbs in 2 days and I don't feel like I can eat anything I think I have had some Soup. This is a complete shock to me when my father died 15 years ago when I was just 10 yo I gained a 70 LBS in 4 months because I just ate constantly. Is it normal not to be hungry? I understand that this must be part of the "head work " that goes along with the band. :think
  18. My long term goal has been feeling very far away and I have been trying to think of a good mini goal to set up for myself. At first I thought it would be great to weigh as much as I did on my wedding day by our anniversary, but then I realized that I can't lose 40 lbs in 7 weeks, so now I am trying to think of something else. What are your mini goals and how did you pick them? Thanks ! :clap2:

    NSV (Non Scale Victories)

I can't believe that I'm posting this, since it's so personal, but it's a big deal for me and I feel comfortable on this board... When dh and I were intimate over the weekend, I was able to get into a position that we haven't been able to make work in about 2 years due to my weight.:biggrin1: it's so worth giving up diet coke, bread and pizza

How Do You Set A Reasonable Mini Goal ?

Thanks for the advice ! I'm still trying to come up with 1 that will work for me:scared:

    Your NO-NO list

I have to agree that what I can eat changes with the time of the day and depending on my fill. lately I have a horrible time with broccoli asparagus beans soy nuggets ( before my last fill I could ) no matter what size portion and how slowly I take it I get the slimes with these. On the one occasion I tried broccoli it got stuck and I felt as though I couldn't breathe !!! What I don't get is why i'm always able to eat tofu but soy is very if-y

New York Times article about WLS

"There are at least two ways to think about the rise in bariatric surgery. On the one hand, isn’t it terrific that technology has once again solved a perplexing human problem? Now people can eat all they want for years and years and then, at the hands of a talented surgeon, suddenly bid farewell to all their fat."<O:p</O:p <O:p This particular paragraph peeved me the most! I am sure that we can all attest that bariatric surgery is a tool. None of us “suddenly bid farewell” to our fat, it takes a combination of exercise, smaller portions and better food choices to see significant weight loss. Earlier in the article the authors stated “In certain cases, some people also learn to outfox the procedure by taking in calories in liquid form (drinking chocolate syrup straight from the can, for instance) or simply drinking and eating at the same time.” By the authors’ own admission the successful bariatric patient needs to change dietary habits and behaviors, since the procedure itself is not enough to guarantee weight loss. In my opinion these individuals have not only proved their ignorance about the challenges of being obese, by suggesting that simple aversion therapy would work, but they can’t even formulate and support an argument ! <O:p

    Why'd I just PB?

I had my second fill on Tuesday. I did two days of all liquids today I tried to eat 2 soy nuggets for lunch and I got a horrible feeling of acid and phlegm building in my stomach and then I started hiccuping and my lunch came back up:think I cut everything into teeny tiny pieces and chewed very carefully. Also I felt very hungry physically. So I just don't get it. Any advice I really don't want to lose my band :help: Thanks

    Don't save your skinny jeans...

I also wanted to add that you can get extra life from your clothes if uou can find a good seamstress they are usually reasonable and depending on the garment they can take in a few sizes !

    Don't save your skinny jeans...

When I started I was wearing my materinity clothes even though by DS was 15 months old !! :faint: I was easily a 30/32. I have never been so happy to fit back into a size 24, my pre preggo pants !! Hopefully I won't be in those for long though !
