    Bladder Infections.

I just finished two rounds of very strong antibiotics for a kidney infection. Basically I had a UTI that I had NO symptoms of ( I mean nothing) and so since I felt fine it progressed up to my kidney. 2 1/2 weeks ago I ended up in the ER because the pain in my back was so severe !! Tests showed that my right kidney was enlarged from the infection. I am finally feeling better although I am still tired often. Has anyone ever had a no symptom UTI that was caught by chance ? Or once it had progressed further ? Obviously if I felt ill I would have gone to the dr. at the first signs. it is so scary that it progressed into an upper tract infection. Since if a kidney infection is left untreated it can cause sepsis !!
  3. I'm going out for Indian food tonight, which is a treat since I haven"t had any since being banded. Does anyone have suggestions on what to get? Today my restriction is pretty tight, so nothing to heavy. Thanks for the help !!! Oops I meant Indian !!!
  4. Thanks !!! I ended up having some Baingan Bhartha which is pureed eggplant with onions peas and spices. It was so good !! I also had half a veggie samosa which required major chewing on my part ! I skipped the rice and tried a bite of garlic nan which went down ok since it was toasted and flat . The best thing was that I had tons of leftovers !
  5. Ebony- I walk 90 mins a day 5 days a week I do have loose skin a lot on my arms, some on my stomach and thighs. Also my bust size really decreased and I have thought about augmentation more then once. Maybe someday I'll go for plastic surgery but since insurance doesn't cover those procedures I'm not sure that it is within my means.
  6. You have already made great changes that are going to help effect your health for the better!!! Your exercising is a great habit to have gotten into! Also think about it, I know that without my band not only would I have not lost but I would have gained !! So not only have you lost almost double what my 2 yr old ways but you have taken steps to stop the scale from ever going up again! Please remember that I had A LOT of weight to take off !!!! 170 lbs to get to a healthy BMI ( I haven’t done it yet) and 200 lbs to get back to my weight a decade ago. When you are super obese it takes more calories just to do everyday things, because your body just has to work harder. Also to have gotten as heavy as I was I had to be constantly consuming much then 2000 calories a day so then to suddenly drop down to between 600-1000 calories a day after banding made my body tap into my fat stores. Now that I am smaller my body uses less energy on daily activities so it gets harder to lose. The bandster rules that I follow include drinking at least 8 glasses of Water a day to help me stay hydrated and for me it keeps cravings at bay. Not dinking for 45 minutes after a meal so u don’t push the food through your stomach or worse overfill your pouch and vomit. I try to eat Protein first like my tofu, cheese or Beans first then veggies. I rarely have carbs because they are hard to digest and don’t have much nutritional value. I also stay on top of my fills food becomes to tempting when I am loose!! Please try this thread http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f137/slow-losers-unite-49233/ there are lots of others who feel like u do !!! Good luck !!

    Embarrassed by Weight Loss???

I personally find it matters on how much tact the person has. If it is a sincere comment like "You look so great! Good For you!" I am flattered. I got one comment one time that still makes me shudder. It was from my sister in law's friend who only sees me twice a year. Her exact words were "Oh my god you look great!!! I mean you like lost an entire person !!! You were so big before ! I mean wow!!!" Geee thanks !!!
  9. "So the secret to the band success is really inside YOU and what you make of the tool " So true !!! This made me think of the line from the Wizard of Oz : "You've always had the power, my dear. You've had it all along." - Glenda, the good witch The Lap Band Just helps to bring out your own inner will power Congrats you look great !!!

    Boo Boo Kitty's Story

Boo Boo, when I first joined Lapbandtalk a few weeks after being banded I came across one of your posts with your signature at the bottom with a before and current picture. You really helped to motivate me and helped me to realize that large amounts of weight could be lost with the band not just RNY. Thanks !
  11. Hi I was banded on 7-31-07 at Staten Island University Hospital, and while I have worked really hard to make my band work,I have had nothing but problems from the "support" staff . There have been several incidents of missing test results, botched appointments, and billing miscues. My surgeon was fine, but to go through all the problems with the staff for a dr. who is just "fine" doesn't seem worth it. So I am considering going to NYU for my care. Are you happy with the level of competency? Do you see the dr's for your adjustments or is it done by an RN? Did anyone else transfer their records to NYU? Thanks!!
  12. I have a few events coming up that will require a bathing suit. I refuse to sit on the side lines after having dropped so much weight, like I have done for the last several years. This put me in the precarious position of purchasing swim wear. ACK !!! When I was a teenager I had dropped 135 lbs on my own ( of course I couldn't keep it off) and only had mildly flabby arms to contend with. Ten years later and I am not as fortunate. Besides my arms, my thighs are awful and I have a shelf for an abdomen from having a c-section. Yet some how I am now nearly flat chested ( weight loss and nursing perhaps ?) A plastic surgeon could make a fortune off of me. Ok enough complaining so my body isn't perfect and I am probably being overly critical anyway I purchased a black Tankini top ( off the rack for Macy's Misses section YEAH!) and am looking for men's board trunks ( ever notice how men's trunks go down to the knee and women's boy shorts stop just under your bottom ?) I figure I can throw an old tee over my make shift suit. Does anyone have any suggestions ? Or their own experiences ?

    OMG!!! - Wen!

I had a serious case of insomnia the other night and saw and infomercial for Wen. I was curios but didn't want to spend all that money for nothing. Now I think I will give it a try!

TO MUCH of a good thing?

Sorry this happened to you!!! My mom ( who is NOT banded but lost over 100 lbs a decade ago very slowly) had the same thing happen to her last yr. My dh had to rush her to the hospital while i was away. at first her docs thought she had a liver disease but it was her gall bladder. Hers had built up over years. I think it is a risk whenever you lose a great amount of weight. I hope you are feeling better!!!

    Vitamin Water ?

In addition to Protein shakes, crystal light and coffee I am really starting to like Vitamin Water. The thing is 1 bottle has about 250 calories in it !!! I can't drink a whole bottle at 1 time , but was just wondering if anyone had thoughts on vitamin water? Do you think the extra Vitamins are worth it or is it just sugar water ? Right now I have it on occasion as a treat & it hasn't affected my weight loss but I am not sure that it fits into my new healthy lifestyle

    Vitamin Water ?

oops just rechecked the label, it's 150 calories per bottle Jack- I am thinking it has to be because the 3rd and 4th ingredients are types of sugars

    Soda soda soda

I said good bye to diet soda the night before surgery. I have had a sip since and it just doesn't do it for me anymore. I love coffee now and Vitamin Water I have to be very careful with the vitamin water though cause it has calories :tt2: but I like it almost as much as I used to like soda

    I need motivation!

Gail, I think that is awful that your dr. won't fill you because you gained a little. I would think that is a sign that you need more restriction!! Can you find another dr. to do your fill?

    Is fried/grilled tofu a mushy?

I LOVE tofu teriyaki and from my experience with that, I have to say that tofu itself is a mushy, but that yummy crunchy skin really isn't . Can you pry the tofu away from the skin ? take care

    Drinking while eating

I tried taking a few small sips after eating once( I was so thirsty wish I had thought of the ice cube thing) and all of my food came back up. Certainly not an experience that I plan on repeating . I have read other posts where ppl. state that they feel as though the food is being pushed through their pouch leaving them hungry sooner. Yet I have also read about a lucky few who can sip and seem to have no problems Now I wait until I feel as though the food has passed through the band to sip
  21. ivyrose325

    question?

I had the same problem post op when I was on liquids my surgeon's nutritionist told me to take Metamucil. It really helped, and once I started mushies the problem stopped.

    Empire Blue Shield EPO

I didn't have EPO at the time of my surgerybut I do now and they cover the cost of office visits for me now ( not the fills though) the consultations and floro

When did your weight loss "slow down"?

I have to say that for me the first 115 lbs just flew right off. The last ten I have had to really fight for and I still want to lose 47 more. I have pretty decent restriction right now, I make healthy food choices so I am pretty sure that I am going to have to change my exercise routine to get to goal. Right now I walk 5X a week for 90 min blocks I guess maybe I need to try taebo or something different.

Those of you that drink alcohol

I have been sitting here all night trying to figure out what's wrong with my band since I have such bad heartburn. My GERD has been gone for the last year since banding. I was sure that I had slipped (even though I can still eat the right portion sizes) Then it occurred to me this all started after having a Mikes Hard Lemonade last night. This was my first alcoholic drink in the last year and I am pretty sure it's the culprit. Right now I am waiting for the antacid to kick in I definitely have not missed the reflux !

Who has or is getting banded in July

I was banded on 7/31/2007 It is the best decision that I ever made. I remember that the hospital called five days before and said that there was a cancellation and they had an opeing for me , or I'd have to wait until 8/14 I jumped at the sooner date ( so not like me) and haven't looked back since. Good Luck to you
