    Approved!

My mom and husband will be there to help with my son. I'm not allowed to lift over 10 lb for the first 2 weeks and nothing over 20 lbs until after 4 weeks. My son is already the size of am average 2 year old (big boy of 24 lbs and 29 inches tall) so I won't be able to lift him for probably 5 weeks. But hopefully once the incisions are healed I will still be able to cuddle as long as someone lifts him for me. That's what I'll miss the most. But it will be so worth it!
  2. I am officially approved for my October 13th sleeve!! I am so excited! I'm most nervous about the 2 week pre-op liquid diet. I'm also nervous about the recovery because my son will only be 10.5 months old so I won't be allowed to lift him. But I just keep telling myself that it will all be worth it! I can't wait for a healthier me and all that will come with that. Any other October sleevers?
  3. I'm so sorry to hear that. Antibiotics can have that effect unfortunately, esp on top of nerves. I'm looking at an October surgery and just got my EGD results back. I was super surprised to find out that I'm positive for H. Pylori and chronic active gastritis. I have absolutely no symptoms though, other than mild pernicious anemia that just requires a monthly vitamin B12 shot, which I just learned can be caused by H. Pylori. Did you have symptoms before the antibiotics? My appt with my doctor is Friday and I'm wondering if I'll need to do the antibiotics since I'm pretty asymptomatic.
  4. I look forward to having another baby at a more comfortable weight for pregnancy. I was miserable towards the end of my first. I look forward to wearing my "skinny" clothes that have been in my closet for years and getting rid of all my "fat" clothes. My hubby is just as excited to get some closet space lol. I look forward to being able to easily get up and down off the floor playing with my son. I look forward to doing an endurance race with my horse. Or even going on long rides without the fear that I'm too heavy for my horse. I would love to try ziplining. I could go on and on. Overall I look forward to just being a more healthy, comfortable, and confident me!!

    Gastritis and H pylori

There are people who have no symptoms so I'm hoping it won't be a problem since I have none, and that the sleeve won't create symptoms.

    Gastritis and H pylori

I see him next Friday. I just think it's weird that I don't have any symptoms. I'm so afraid that he'll tell me I'm not a good candidate for the sleeve because of it.
  7. My pathology results just came back from my EGD biopsies. First I found out that I have a small sliding hiatus hernia, now these results say that I have chronic active gastritis and am H.pylori positive. All of this has been a surprise because I have no symptoms. It was just supposed to be a routine EGD for pre-op. Has anyone else had this happen? Do you know if the gastritis will interfere with getting the sleeve done?
  8. I had my EGD done on Monday. I was told they took a biopsy because I have a small slipping hiatus hernia. Total shock because I have no symptoms. I have my appointment with my surgeon next Friday to discuss the results. I know that hernias like this are common and can be caused by anything from pregnancy, obesity, to heavy lifting. My surgeon normally does the repair during the WLS procedure. However, depending on size it may not even be anything to worry about. If it does need repaired though, does the repair make the healing time from surgery longer?
  9. I started my 6 month supervised diet and exercise program 4 months ago with a BMI of 42. I have lost 8 lbs and my current BMI is close to 41. I was told by my surgeon/doctor's office that if my BMI drops below 40 before I start my 2 week liquid diet then my insurance (BCBS) won't approve me for surgery since I have no co-morbitities. I've provided the necessary proof that previous diets and weight loss attempts have not been permanent for me, hence the reason for getting the surgery. I am trying to make changes and prepare myself for life after surgery but feel like I'm being hindered by the fear of losing too much. I feel like they should use my starting BMI. Anyone else had this issue?

    EGD

Thanks everyone! I'm so excited to get another step in this process done!

    EGD

I am almost 4 months into the 6 month required pre-op diet. I am getting all my other pre-op requirements done so I can hopefully have my surgery in early September. Tomorrow is my EGD and I don't know what to expect. I've never even had so much as my wisdom teeth out. Any advice?
  12. My BMI is 42 which qualifies me automatically for the sleeve. My insurance requires a BMI of 35-40 to have an underlying health condition related to being overweight. I don't really have any other health problems. What I'm wondering is if I loose weight during my required 6 month diet/exercise program and get below 40 will my insurance deny me?

    Judgemental People

I'm trying to be more confident and I think I'm doing a good job but I'm also a people pleaser at heart. Sometimes I find it difficult to think about people's negativity. But I agree that being upfront gives you control. It might just surprise people and leave them unable to be negative! Lol
  14. How is everyone handling telling people about their sleeve surgeries? I am still not sure if I want to tell everyone or not. Unfortunately, I work at the hospital that I'll be getting mine done at so all of my coworkers will know. There are also family members that work there as well so I feel like complete secrecy will not be an option. It's not that I'm ashamed of it, I'd rather not deal with the judgment from people who don't understand or the people who are just jealous and/or rude. Also, there will inevitably be comments made afterwards about my appearance so I'm not sure what approach to take.
