5 month anniversary (sorry, it's long)
Newlife4me replied to momof4's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have the same problem with the first couple of bites. Then I have to wait about 10 minutes for them to go down and then I can finish eating what is on my plate. I don't think that I should stop after the first few bites because that would not be enough food. A few bites of food at every meal does not sound healthy. What are we suppose to do... stop eating... or wait and eat some more? -
Mine is the same way as Brenda. I have lost 28 lbs. since May 31st, which 10 lbs. were the first week. I had some fill problems, finally got those fixed and have been filled properly since Sept. 19 and have lost only 8 lbs. of that 28 lb. total since that last fill. However, I measure myself at the beginning of each month and to date I have lost about 35 inches all the way around! So to me... I don't really care what the scale says, although it is very depressing not seeing it move, but I will take 35 inches any day! People are really starting to notice and I feel better. That was one thing that always made me mad about Weight Watchers... it was all about what the scale says and not the overall effect. Anyway, you might want to start taking measurements once a month and see how that works. Good luck...

When you feel around where your port is, what do you feel. I used to feel the "flat" surface of the port but now It seems like I am feeling round parts, which I would assume are the sides. The nurse told me that my port had not "flipped or moved" and if it had, as of the last fill it had moved back. I had the band surgery on May 31st and latly when I feel the port it is rather tender and a little sore. Do you think this is normal for being this far out? I don't feel bad, but I notice the port more than usual. Any thoughts? Thanks - Sharon

Just a quick note to ask that y'all say a few prayers for us in Texas! Rita has now turned into a category 4 hurricane with antisipation of being a category 5 by land fall. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers...

If you are willing to come to Houston, I used Dr. Spivak and I think they are awesome. Not sure if they take medicare but below is the link about him and his practice and phone numbers. Wouldn't hurt to give them a call! www.lap-surgery.net

When you both had surgery to have it fixed, do you know what they did and is it assured that it will not "tilt" or "flip" again? I would hate to have it all done then have to do it again. I am also 3 1/2 months out from being banded and have not had much luck so far. My fills keep disappearing and we have checked and there is no leak, I have lost 20 pounds, the first 10 or so was when I was on liquids in the first week, so really about nine or so pounds in three months, I thought I would be farther along in my journey by now. Getting very discouraged! Thanks for posting your reply though, lets me know what I have to look forward to.

I thought it would be a good idea for those of you with personal websites documenting your weight loss to share your website address with those of us who might need a little encouragement!! The ones I have run across, I have looked at and congratulate you.

Thanks a bunch ladies. I will have some encouraging word to read!!

Okay, long story short... Have had 2 fills that have just disappeared (where they went I have no idea!). On 8/3 went in under floro to see if i had a leak. The doc put in omniplaque and said i did not have a leak. Felt a little bit of restriction for about 2 day and "poof" i feel like it has disappeared again. Called and made an appointment for Monday. They will check for any omniplaque left in the band and if there is none, she said I have a leak in the tubing. What was the purpose of floro if they could not tell if the band had a leak? Anyway, she said with a "quick surgery" they could replace the tubing. Has anyone else had to have the tubing replaced? I know some of you responded to my last email about leaks, but I was curious about specifics. I just want to get this right and get the show on the road. It has been 2.5 months and I have lost about 15 pounds. I know that is great but only five of those have been since the 2nd week after surgery. The rest vanished the first week after the band was put on. I am so ready to start my "new life" but am tired of the problems. Thanks for listening ~ Sharon

Wow, thanks a bunch Kathy. I will be busy reading all morning! I knew that Vera had some problems because she was nice enough to post last time I was having issues! I just never got the chance to read her story in depth. I just hope they find something so it can get fixed and I can start being a "loser"!!

I wish it was that easy!!

Okay, I know that we are not suppose to use aleave and advil, etc. but when it is "that time of the month", will pamperine hurt anything? Have got major issues with this "time" and am in a lot of pain and need to take something for the cramps. Any suggestions on medicines that will not hurt the band? Thanks!

Has anyone ever had their band leak? I had 1.5 put in on 6/30 and went back 2 days ago and it was all gone. I had a fill of 1.2 that day and felt tightness but it is gone now. The doctoer said sometimes the band leaks. I am just wondering what they do it is "faulty"? Anyone know?

Went thru a bunch of tests with regular saline. The fill that I had last Tuesday was gone again when I went in this week. They sent me over to do the x-ray which showed no leak. They ended up putting 1.0 cc of omniplaque in and leaving it in. They could not however explain where the sline is going. Both fills with the saline just dissappeared. Kind of freaky! Anyway, we will see how this does in the next week or so and I will go back when the kids start school and have this level checked. When the nurse put in 1.5 cc of saline, asked me to go eat something and come back and she checked it again and it was already down to 1.2 cc. That was in a matter of 30 minutes. Seems to boggle everyone but the doc said he has seen it before but still could not offer any insight as to where it is going... who knows. I just want it to start working so I can get the show on the road!! Thanks for asking and I will keep you posted on what is happening.

Paula I know it will work soon, I just want it now! Thanks for the words of encouragement!! I will keep you guys posted on what happens.

Just got off the phone with the doctors office and I have an appointment for tomorrow to see if they can pull any saline out that was put in last Tuesday. I don't think they will get anything. I have no restriction what so ever. If there is no saline I will be sent to the surgery center for an x-ray to see if there is a leak. Wish me luck. I just want this to get to where is should be so I can get a move on!! It has been two months and I am getting really upset about it now. It just has not been what I have expected so I hope they do find a leak so they can fix it and I can start being a LOSER!! Thanks for letting me vent!!

Thanks everyone... you are all so helpful!!

I went for my second fill yesterday. I have felt no restriction what so ever from the first fill. When they were checking how much saline was there they found none. Either it did not make it in the port the first time or they said I might have a "leak". This time they put in 2 cc (in a 4 cc band) and I immediatly felt it. It was the strangest feeling. Anyway, that was to much, could not even drink water, so they reduced it to 1.2 cc. Has anyone else had the problem of it "not being there" after you had a fill. Also, I guess I have a problem deciding what is restriction. Is it when you feel "full" immediatley after eating about 3/4 ounces of food or is it feeling "satisfied" after eating. I have never felt "full" like the full after a binge( not that I want that!) but I am just curious what other peoples experience with restirctions are. Thanks!

Thanks Vera. I will look into those threads and find out what they say.

I had my first fill on June 30(1.5). I know that people have said that they feel "full" faster after a fill. Do you actually feel "full" or is it just a feeling of satisfaction and not needing to eat more? I don't actually feel full, but am satisfied. I am eating the way that I am suppose to... protiens first, fruits and veggies second, etc. I still think that I am "able" to eat more than i should be able to. I am eating less than pre-banned days, but the nurse said I would only be able to eat about 3 - 4 oz. I am pretty sure I am/could eat more than that. I measured my chicken out last night and it was 3 oz. but I also had cucumbers and watermelon on top of the meat which makes for more than the 3/4 oz. they said I would be able to eat. Are these things normal or should I actually "be full"? Can I call the doc back and ask for more fill already or should I wait a bit? Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks.

Hi, just got my first fill today (1.5) and I am very excited. Things have been slow for me, so hopefully this will kick it into gear! Wish me luck!

Hi Robyn We got banded the same day. I am having some problems because I don't feel like anything has been done. I do however, eat a bit less because I do feel full quicker, but since the surgery, I have only lost 10 pounds. I see that you have lost 22...is that since your surgery? That is great. Maybe we can "be email buddies" to help each other out! Good luck in your journey. I have a check up on the 30th and hopefully he will give me a fill so at least I can start losing weight. Talk to ya soon.
