I actually have a friend that had the by-pass Feb 22 and has lost 100 pounds. Which is great for her. I on the other hand valued my life to much. When I was doing my research I read several surveys that were done comparing a by-pass and lap-band at the end of 2 years the lap-band was still lossing weight or maintaining while most by-pass patients had stopped loosing and some were actually gaining. My aunt had it done over 2 years ago and she has already started gaining weight back (15 - 20 pounds) Now I am not saying you can't or you want with the band it's possible. My thinking was if I have to work harder to take it off, then my life choices will be better in the long run. So for me, if I couldn't have had the lap band then I wasn't going to have surgery. I wouldn't take it back for the world...I think you are doing great...stay strong and just keep working at it. The "compare in two years" - that is exactly what I would do if I were you.

Question: Liquid Diet Before Surgery
gordonfamily3 replied to NJChick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes that is true. My doctor is one that requires it before, I was told it was to help shrinken the liver so the surgery will be easier for the doctor. It actually wasn't that bad...I will say it was alot easier at work then home and weekends. -

Well your not alone..we went to a birthday party yesterday for my cousins little girl. The cake looked so good while feeding it to my 2 year old son that I just had to have a few bites. Hey the way I look at it...a few bites is better then a whole big peice like I use to have...I will say yours looks better then what I had yesterday. Oh well today is a new day!!! -
You know I have ready on here of people going back 3 days post op. Well not me. I was out of work for 7 full days and then part the rest of the week. I was very tired but was able to manage ok. I know 3 - 4 days would have been to much for me. Good luck....

Wow that is wonderful...you have made my DH and I jealous. Our rides don't look nearly as nice. There is one the end of Aug my DH is doing it goes from Ashville, NA (the Biltmore House) to Lake Lure, NC (where the Water scene from Dirty Dancing was filmed.) It's the "Ride for Kids" it's great... Thanks for sharing and making us all a little jealous.. But we can travel through you. :-)

Darcey, I sure hope you are feeling better. Thanks for letting us know. I would say you have a great doctor to help you out. It's so hard to find a good caring doctor anymore. (I love mine also.) I admire you for keeping up with your new lifestyle. I know it will behard but be strong and it seems that you will have the will power to make it happen. So good luck...

I wish it would have been around when I was 25...having it done now I would never change my mind. With that said...what you are feeling I think is normal. I thought the same thing. All I could think about is what happens if something goes wrong...what will my husband and son do. I finally got over that and felt this was the best way for me to loose the weight and keep it off. Good luck with your emotions they are tough thing. I think if you go through with it then you will love it.

Hang in there Melissa, that Dove want kill you. You are so right about loosing weight prior to surgery. It can only help. I admire you for sticking to it. Everything happens for a reason..I truly believe that. I talked to (my) Kami yesterday and she is probably going to come. I told her where and when. I will remind her again as time gets closer. I took my first Water class last since having surgery. It felt so good. I am going to do that 3 days a week...Walk the other days. :-) Keep motivated... Hope everyone has a great friday... -

gaining weight back after the band
gordonfamily3 replied to lovecats85's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have to say I love by band. My husband and I researched all the differnet types of surgery out there. We only felt confortable with the band because they weren't messing with any of my organs. It's completely reversable. One of aunts had the RNY and as already gained weight back. I know it can happen with me but knowing I have the band makes me think about it before I put anything in my mouth. I know it's more work on my end but that is ok..it's a lifestyle change. Good Luck on your choice as you are the only one who know what is rigth for you. My Dr told me that if the lap-band wasn't what I wanted that this was always the first step for me. I could choice another surgery. I told him not for me that I was going to make this work for and it was going to help me loose all the weight I want to loose. -
Welcome to the LBT...I to have a wonderful supportive husband but having other bandsters to talk to is great... Again welcome...

I have a problem with our 2 week liquid diet...I talked to the dieticain and she said as long as I get my protien and keep calories @ 700 - 800 I would be fine. That is what I did...they reason for the liquid diet is to shrink the liver. It is earier if it's smaller for the surgeon to do the surgery. I know everyone I have asked had had a couple of light meals. Stay focused and know it's almost over.... Good Luck!!!

gordonfamily3 replied to DrPleatman's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks so much for taking the time to post here. It is nice knowing there are Drs out there that really care about their patients and others. I look forward to hearing more from you. (I was a lucky one my insurance paid 100% of it, it would be nice if the insurance companies would come around more for everyone.) -
Mental case: side effect fat
gordonfamily3 replied to Dragonwillow's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Melissa, I saw the same doctor you are seeing. What is going to happen is the lady is going to show you pictures and you are going to have to give a short story with a start, middle, end..you are going to have to tell their feelings and why it was brought on. They you will take the test...you want answer all of it. I don't think there was any abuse type questions on it. I do remember it asking if I thought about sex alot. Hope this helped a little.... -
Just wanted to say Thank You...
gordonfamily3 replied to Parvathi's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would have to second that...I think the reason I have been so successful in so far is because of the support and stories and just knowing that if I ever needed anything I have 100's of people to turn to. Thanks so much!!!!! -
