    Getting back into solids.

You know what I'm finding frustrating? How much stuff out there is "bready". Italian restaurants - pizza, heros, rolls, etc - all the stuff I like. I'm done with fast food, except for my Wendy's chili. Chinese and Japanese have rice - chinese fried rice worked ok before my fill, don't know how it will work later. It's so much easier to eat mushies. But, I guess if we don't progress to solids, we'll have problems keeping food above the band and feeling full longer.

    Pre-op

I had to do a liquid diet for 14 days prior to surgery. 5 slimfast optimas, 2 cups veggies and 3 oz lean protein, plus sugar free jello and ice pops and chicken or beef broth. The first few days were the worst. By the end of the 14 days, I didn't even want all of those slimfasts.

I was 312 on surgery date and got the 14 cc band put in.

    Pre-op

Don't be scared, you'll pull through just fine. I'm 4 weeks post op and am back to work and eating food again.
  5. I'm in my 4th week post-op and I'm sore sometimes. Today the weather is very nasty and I'm sore, almost like I'm bruised underneath the port. I'm sure if I took some advils it would feel better, but I'm busy reading these postings to go get some!! LOL

    can"t burp

That is so funny - I can relate to it. The guy I'm seeing has very bad ulcerations in his stomach and he is CONSTANTLY burping. I figured if he could do it, so could I. And we would have a burping match. After my surgery, I couldn't burp, so he would burp and ask me if I felt better! I'm having a much easier time now, and I'm almost back to where I was pre-op.

    Exercise and port pain

I was told the only exercise I should do is walking until I get my first fill and then I would get new instructions on exercise.
  8. you can mix it in a blender with ice, skim milk, instant coffee and different extracts. makes a nice, very filling shake.

anyone cheat on pre op diet?

I would have a slim fast around 10:00, another at 11:00, a salad at 12:30, another slimfast at 3:30, chicken at dinner time and then 2 more slim fasts at night before I went to bed. This was pre-op. Post op, I would have a diluted slimfast (1 can of slimfast and then fill the same can with milk and mix up in a bottle) around 12 noon and then another around 9:00 at night. coffee, juice or Water throughout the day.
  10. I had that. It's because of the internal swelling. I felt like mine was choking me. It goes away once the swelling starts to go down. It took me about a week before I started to feel better.

anyone cheat on pre op diet?

I did a 2 week liquid diet, 5 slimfasts per day, chicken or beef broth, 2 cups veggies and 3 oz lean protein. I didn't cheat once, because I was scared that if I did, the doctor wouldn't do the surgery, and there was NO WAY I was going to do that liquid diet again.

    When is your 1st fill?

I go November 6th for my first fill. I wish I could go now. I'm hungry all the time. I notice that I can't eat as much as I used to in 1 sitting, but my hunger is definitely coming back. I've been introducing solids into my diet, but for the most part I'm still on mushies. I've had chicken breast - hurt going down, and I've had sausage - the thin kind cooked crispy, it went down just fine. I had baby carrots and celery last night dipped in ranch dip, went down just fine.
  13. I'm "supposed" to still be in the mushy stages, but I've been eating all kinds of food so I tried a chicken breast. It was a little dry, so I put some teriyaki sauce on it to moisten it up some. Took small bites, chewed and chewed and chewed. Honestly, it felt funny going down. Unless it is VERY moist, I don't think I'll be having chicken breast again anytime soon.

    can"t burp

I had the same feeling. Now I'm always burping, when I eat something, when I drink something...

    I tried chicken yesterday....

A friend of mine who had the band done in June has no problem with white meat chicken. But judging by how hard it was to get down, I'm going to do dark meat chicken.

    I tried chicken yesterday....

No reason, just wanted to try it.
  17. Good luck. Let me know how you feel afterwards. I want to tell my doctor to fill mine all the way up so I don't have an appetite!!!

    New Member in Brooklyn, NY

Dr. Ren did my banding and they gave me 3 weeks off on disability. Lord knows I could have used another 2 weeks because really, who wants to go to work when you can stay home and get full pay? LMAO!

    NYU group

I wouldn't go to any other doctor other than Dr. Ren or Dr. Fielding. They are both the best out there.

    Wanting to eat more.

I can't wait until I get my first fill on Nov. 6th. I feel like I can eat anything. I haven't tried chicken or steak yet, but geez, I feel like I've eaten everything else!

    Gaining weight??!!! WHAT?!?!

Same thing happened to me. They told me that while you are in the hospital, they pump you full of fluids through the IV. Your body retains it. Also, the two scales might not be in sync. I was 2 pounds heavier 8 days after my surgery than I was 2 hours before surgery.

    diet?

I did 5 slim fast shakes per day, 2 cups of veggies, 3 oz. of chicken grilled with lemon, sugar free ice pops and jello, and chicken buillion. I also had to have skim milk, no sugar and lots of water.
  24. I was banded on the first and oh my goodness do I feel my appetite coming back. Today I have eaten a small cup of yogurt, 1 cup of cottage cheese, 1 cup of chili with some garlic and herb bran crackers, and a small cup of broccoli, bacon and cheese Soup. I can't wait to get my first fill so I get some restriction. I feel like they are gonna tell me I gained 10 pounds when I go back to the doctor on Nov. 6th!

    looking for a Dr.

Philly is not to far from New York City. I recommend my doctor - Dr. Christine Ren at NYU. She's the best of the best. Her husband is Dr. George Fielding, the surgeon who brought the lap band procedure to the United States. I had my surgery 3 weeks ago today and I was not in any pain whatsoever after surgery. 2 days after I had surgery, I was walking around Home Depot.
