  1. Hi everyone, this is actually my third post, ...ever. I probably should have started here, but didn't know how -- so here goes. I'm 41, obese, sick of yo-yo dieting, and sick of being disappointed in myself. I thought i had made up my mind to go ahead with the band, but i read some of the posts about erosions, slips, failed bands, and they started me thinking about long term success. Does anyone have any info on long term success/failure rates? if you read some of those posts you get the idea that the band is like a time bomb. I really had so much excitement and hope going for a while, and now i have cold feet. Thanks, Jmarie:help:

    2 days post op

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum. I had decided to get the lap band, and now am having second thoughts. What scares me the most, I guess, is erosion. I know about the risks with the proceedure, but it seems the more I read, the more concerned I get with how long the band will last, and erosion an eventuallity if you keep it long enough. Is there any good data on patients 10 years out, for example, and how many have had problems? Thanks, Jmarie
  3. I'm new to the forum. I had made up my mind to get the band, (self pay) and I knew about the possible complications, but I guess what I never thought about was, does anyone really know what the complication rate is? I mean, it seems like many people get complications after a certain period of time (3-5 yrs). Is a complication just a matter of time? Is a 3% errosion rate time dependant? I'm so bummed about this feeling i have that you only have so long with a band before it fails, and then it's back to square one. Can someone help? Jmarie
