    August Sleevers Check In

Stacyfae, I'm two weeks post op, too, but have only had protein shakes and chicken broth. I have my follow up w/my surgeon today and am expecting to get the green light to begin having soft and puréed foods. I'm so ready but I still haven't mastered getting 60 grams per day of protein shakes down. This is definitely a slow learning lesson. I don't know how much weight I've lost since the surgery, because they didn't weigh me that day. I suspect it's about 8-10 pounds. Dreamgirl45

Yay!! You are on your way now!! Like everyone has said (and as I found out after my surgery last week), walking helps relieve the gas pain. :-)

    Sleeved this morning!

Karen, I don't think I can tell the difference! Maybe it was head hunger. It was around lunch time and I felt as if I could/should eat something.

    Sleeved this morning!

Day 7 post-op and omg! I'm so dang hungry. I just chewed on a small piece of fajita chicken then spit it out before I could swallow it! Now having a cup of chicken broth. Can't believe that I have 7 more days of this. Can't have soft food until my follow up with the doctor. Good news? I'm down 10 pounds since pre-surgery.

Jenn, great post. Have you tried semi-freezing your protein drinks or getting shaved ice to crunch on? Might help. Good luck on your continued road to recovery.

Kd5wzr, For your cream of wheat, maybe a drop of agave sweetener or honey. i noticed the agave near the honey in a local Walmart in my town. That combined with the cinnamon might be tasty.

    August Sleevers Check In

Hi Ayscott74, we were sleeved the same day. Thought I'd give an update on my post-op day 5. I'm feeling ok. Did not sleep well last night and woke up feeling "weird." Could not discern whether I was having gas or surgery-related pain. Managed to get down 20 gram protein drink, but it took me 3 hours! I fixed lunch for my daughter and it smelled so good (sweet & sour chicken w/veggies and rice), and I wanted some. Instead, having cup of beef broth. Here's to continued healing. Can't wait to be out of this phase and to have something as small as a spoon full of mashed food.

  10. Hello all, My doctor has me using a leg compression machine for the next two weeks (following my surgery 3 days ago). Problem is I can't seem to find any information telling me how long each day that I should use the machine. Does anyone have to do this and if so, how long do you keep this on each day? Thank you, Dreamgirl45

    AUGUST 2014 SLEEVERS GROUP

Hello, fellow August sleevers, I was sleeved Monday, Aug. 11. Returned home Wed., Aug. 14. I am able to walk at a slow pace, but I still have some pain, gas and nausea associated with the pain medication. Trying to get in my 60 grams of Protein (liquids) a day, but today I only got down about 25-26 grams. Did not feel surgical remorse after I woke up in recovery, but I did feel some sadness that I couldn't "fix" things before I had to turn to surgery. Oh well... here's to living a healthier and happier life! I wish all of you August sleevers a full recovery! Dreamgirl45

Taken Chances, don't be ashamed. You're human a we all make mistakes. I fell off the wagon about 3-4 times, but got back on track (as much as I could) each time. Good luck. I'm sure you'll be fine.

    Sleeved this morning!

Sleeved this morning, Aug. 11. Mostly gas pain right now. Doctor said surgery went well. Wishing you all much success in your weight loss journey.
  15. Hello, all! After about a month of waiting for my insurance company to sign off on my surgery, I finally got approved this week. I honestly cannot believe it. I've already competed psych counseling, nutrition counseling, blood tests, EKG, etc. I start my two-week pre-op liquid diet July 28 and get sleeved Aug. 11. For the most part, I have family support. At work, those closest to me have said things like, "You're not large enough. You don't need to do that. Please reconsider," to "How long will you be out? I better get in my vacation time in before you go." One co-worker looks at me in a sad, troubled, puzzled expression when she sees me and explained that her neighbor had WLS and it was a bad experience. So, it's quite a challenge to share my news with people who don't get "it." And that is okay. It is not for them to "get." This is for ME! Sorry, for that virtual self psych-analysis. I must admit that I am a little nervous about surgery (I don't like any kind of hospital procedures), but I'm eager to start living a healthier life. Would love to hear from anyone else getting sleeved in August, what your chief concerns are and where you're located. My surgeon is at UTSW in Dallas.

    August 2014 sleevers? Let's chat!

How are you Ayscott44, and others who got sleeved today, Aug. 11? I pray that all went well. Had my surgery at 7 this morning. I'm feeling a lot of gas pain, but praise God, not much surgical pain. About to try walking. I've had crushed ice today and one cup of water with lemonade Crystal Light in it. I sipped it down in four little cups that each held 2 tablespoons worth of liquid. Took me about an 30-40 minutes to get down 2 tablespoons. A couple of times I felt as if I might throw up, but it didn't happen. Emotionally, I'm ok. Did not cry before I was wheeled in to the OR. In fact, as the anesthesia was settling in. I was singing Kenny Loggins' "This Is It!" out loud. :-) Thank you all for the encouragement and I hope that we all have a great recovery and wonderful next phase of LIFE!!

    August Sleevers Check In

Hello all! I cannot believe I'm getting sleeved Monday! I've been on a pre-op diet for nearly 2 weeks, so even if I could have a "food funeral" this weekend, I wouldn't want to. So funny to me now. Does anyone have any last minute advice of what I should do pre-surgery.... or what I should buy for when I come home from surgery? I'm planning to buy my protein drinks/powders and liquid Tylenol. Anything else anyone has found to be helpful? Thanks!
  18. I'm posting because y'all have become a great source of support for me. I am on Day 3 of my 14-day Pre-op Diet and I am feeling physically ill right now. I fell off the wagon tonight. I'm supposed to have 2 Protein drinks and one sensible meal per day. Today I had one drink, a chicken caesar salad for lunch, and a turkey sandwich, with frito corn chips, slice of cherry pie with scoop of vanilla ice cream for dinner. Is your mouth gaped open? I feel so sick. I WILL get back on track tomorrow. I'm under a lot of stress at work and personally. I realized that I ate today to comfort myself and to handle the stress. Then EUREKA! It hit me again-- this is how I've gotten into the condition I'm in now. Y'all, pray for me. Please tell me how you're handling your pre-op diet!

    August Sleevers Check In

Lorraine, it's something how so many of us are having the same emotions. I'm Aug. 11. I'm scared. I'm excited. I'm hopeful. I start my Pre-op diet Monday. I keep telling myself that it will be mind over matter. It's so important to stick to the plan. In the past, something like this would have been so difficult for me. I'm hopeful that I can see it through for 2 weeks.
  20. Indecision, thanks for the motivation/encouragement. One thing I haven't read anyone describe is the pain after the surgery. I know everyone's threshold is different, but can you describe what it was like when you first got home? How long did you "feel" pain? Also, do you ever feel "normal" again with the tinier stomach? Thanks.

    August Sleevers Check In

I'm getting sleeved Aug. 11 and starting my Pre-op liquid fast July 28. I'm really getting nervous. CANNOT believe it's about to happen. I'm excited for what's to come. I'm SAD about wasted time and opportunities, experiences that could have been richer and fuller. And, I am HOPEFUL for a healthier future.

    August 2014 sleevers? Let's chat!

How are you feeling? I honestly cannot believe it's about to happen. I had my Pre-op meeting with my nutritionist today to discuss the Pre-op diet that I'll be starting Monday. I just really can't believe it's here. How are you preparing mentally?
