I think it works differently for everyone. The are some common themes but usually surgeons and nutritionists all have slight variations on Post and Pre OP protocol. Expect a ton of gas (both ends). It gets better but it's sucks. Don't even try to hold it in. Get it out quickly. You will feel better. Taking meds sucks for a few weeks until you can swallow them whole. Some can take whole pills the day after surgery. I wouldn't advise that unless your surgeon gives the OK. Crush or get liquid version. Men seem to lose faster than women. It may just have to do with the larger frame and heavier beginning weight though. You will see quite a few posts in plastic surgery once the weight is off. But it's uncommon for men. Keep in mind plastics are a great way to get rid of loose skin (and you will have loose stomach skin), but it is really painful and leaves a scar. From what I have seen, few regret having plastic work. But the are other ways to work on loose skin. I. E . Skin elasticity, muscle increase, tone workouts. You need someone to talk to. Therapist, shrink, nutritionist, doctor. This forum is a great resource but you need a pro. If you are on psych meds you should be closely regulated. Depression or anxiety are usually what got us here in the first place. So it's important to control neuro pharmacology. Don't self medicate. Men usually have it's easier since we don't have raging hormones constantly/monthly. Men also seem to need more Protein. The standard Water intake its 64oz. You should be drinking more but it's going to be tough to hit 64oz for a while. Good luck to you. -
Does this sound good?

That sounds amazing. Keep up the good work. You're rocking it! -
I do enjoy my coffee but I could take it or leave it. But I am trying to open my food choices so I don't get tired of something. The other day I made some decaf 10 oz and put a half scoop of Isopure unflavored Protein powder in the mug. I was blown away when it stirred up nicely. The taste was a bit off but more than a fair trade off. The next day I tried to duplicate my experience and couldn't get the powder to dissolve. I am not sure I did anything differently. It was not edible as the clumps tasted like some type of batter gone wrong. My questions: 1) any tips on getting Protein Powder to dissolve completely? 2) I have seen a number of opinions on decaf vs caffeinated. What are our feelings on caffeine and why?

Looks like its a trip on the Amazon highway for a food thermometer for me. Thank you for the responses

Great idea on adding protein to cold first. But how can you warm the coffee back up once dissolved? I tried to microwave a drink with protein powder once before and it turned into lumpy chunks of sadness. Thank for the suggestions

How the hell are we supposed to get in enough Protein and liquids in a day? I am lucky to get 2.5 oz of food in per sitting. And that makes me feel stuffed for hours. I struggle with getting in Water. Not because I don't want it, but because I feel so full. I am five weeks out (April 25th) I am trying to cut down on shakes but my protein intake has decreased substantially.

Why am i feeling this way
Josh2xh replied to LaurieC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The consensus here seems too be low blood sugar. But it sounds like dumping syndrome to me. In know it's very rare with sleeve patient's. -
Are you passing enough gas? I have found ways to evacuate the premises so I can relieve myself of the gas. It helps dramatically. If I hold it in I getting serious bubbles and am really uncomfortable.
-
I have been pounding fiber and am still having trouble. But maybe it's lack of water. I can't seem to get enough in.

I use to love poached eggs too. I tried some the other week and almost gagged. You gotta have some carbs and salt to choke them down. Scrambled eggs weren't bad. But that egg salad recipe sounds great. Also I just bought egg beaters today because the have 5g of Protein. I think 1 large egg has 6g. Not much difference for the fat, and cholesterol reduction. Hopefully they taste OK. Maybe I will try them with cottage cheese as was suggested.

Hang in there. Post Op isn't fun. Read alot here so you know what to expect and what is normal. You will be just fine.

Getting this tightened up!

Ouch. The thigh stitches sound really painful. Let's hope they heal quickly. -
Is 48 greens of Protein enough for a 12 hour shift? I worked 11 hours today (hadn't planned on it) and was scared when I only got in 54g of protein.

I am wondering if taking any of your supplements late in the evening might be causing the Dark Urine.
-
Your pain doesn't sound like this... But I feel a gurgling and pressure in my right side after eating or drinking. It sticks around for hours unless I take a walk. The pressure is just air trapped by food or liquid moving through my bowel, but it's uncomfortable.

Did anyone get in all of their fluids and protein the first week?
Josh2xh replied to ChavaBling's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am one month out and I am fortunate enough to be able to gulp water. Even still I have only come close to 64oz of water alone, a few times. I feel like I am always putting something in my mouth constantly. -
I spent some time considering how to address questions about my weight loss. In the end in decided I honestly don't care if someone knows I had the surgery. However, what I did care about is having to explain the entire process 200 times over. That being said I don't really know what the best explanation might be. I think it depends alot on what people already know about you. Thier is definitely a stigmatism about people who undergo surgery (no matter what kind). People who I feel deserve to be part of my life and I know genuinely care about me, I would tell. Casual acquaintances get to hear a story based mostly in truth... Either I am on an all Protein or liquid based diet. People seem to relate to what they themselves have experienced. All people have struggled with weight issues. So relating to them on a level they can comprehend seems to get me out of conversations faster. I can be proud of my accomplishments with family and friends who actually care.

Just curious when you are taking your supplements? I.E. calcium, multi-vitamin etc...

Not bad with banana. Nor as good as with chocolate though.
-
I enjoyed it very much in my chocolate shakes but not so much in vanilla or with coffee. I suppose that makes sense though. I am almost through my banana shake today. Maybe I will add some and see how it mixes.

Beautiful my friend. I just ordered some. If it doesn't kill me I will love you forever.
