Sooo... When will I poop? :D
mchaviano replied to jesswls's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also suffered horribly from constipation after my surgery. My saving grace has been fiber gummy supplements. I take 2 a day and voila! I've been where you are but it gets better! -

mchaviano replied to stormied7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am nearly two weeks post op. I promise you, I felt the same way. After the first week, you'll start feeling "human" again. I even went back to work because I was getting bored- a good sign! Hang in there! -
Hi guys. My surgery was April 21st. I'm a week out and feeling better and stronger day by day. So excited!

I am a week post-op and am losing weight very quickly. Anybody else? The morning of my surgery, I was 317. Four days later when I was discharged, I was 324... still shaking my head about that one. I am down to 305 now. (312 on Saturday, 308 on Sunday). Never thought I'd complain about losing weight. lol

That's when I started this whole journey. Funny how it seemed like the day would never come and then voila! Just like that. How are you doing?

Hospital Stay Question
mchaviano replied to Photo925's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it's just a case by case basis depending on your surgeon/insurance company. I am now a week post-op and was originally slated to stay just 2 days in the hospital. I had a reaction to the anesthesia and ended up with a very low heart rate. They moved me to the cardiac wing to monitor me for an additional 2 days. Strong heart, just not good with anesthesia.. my HR is now nearly back to normal. Honestly though, I can't imagine if I had come home earlier due to the pain and lack of Fluid intake. I know everybody's different so I wish you the best. -
What about meds, milk, coffee, soda, beer and other drinks?

I was in the middle of a "reply" when yours popped up. Yes, what she said. LOL Good luck! -
What do your incisions look like?
mchaviano replied to mommyjamie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! I cried when I saw myself in the mirror 5 days post-op. I know they're "battle scars" or whatever but geez are they ugly... I have four incisions and the largest one is the only one that gives me any discomfort. It looks tight and indents whereas the others do not. I am now a week post-op and it's gotten MUCH better. Still hurts to cough or stand for a longer period of time, but I'm able to yawn, get in/out of bed more easily and up/down our stairs. Good luck with your journey! -
Favorite multi-vit post op? please share!
mchaviano replied to mi75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My physician recommended Gummy-vites and Vitamin B12 sublingual tabs. Found them both at costco and am pleased with taste/texture of the gummies. My husband even started taking them! Still not a fan of the B12's.... working on it though. Good luck! -
Hi there. I have Aetna and am 6 days post op. Sounds like you may need to start from the beginning unless you have seen your physician on a monthly basis with weight documented, as well as a dietician and therapist. I used TMH Bariatric Center- wonderful group. I have a bariatric MD, dietician and therapist all in the same building. Once you complete the three month plan, and are not gaining any weight, the MD submits a letter of medical necessity and refers you to your surgeon. Once your surgeon gets the referral, they submit your paperwork to Aetna and from there is a waiting game. It was less than a week before I received my surgery date. You can call member services and they may be able to help you see where you stand. From start to finish, it took 5 1/2 months for the entire process. Good luck!

What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
mchaviano replied to bigjoe102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I've always been the "fat girl with a pretty face." I was the funny one that made the fat jokes before someone else could... I'm sure you know the type. I was diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) in 2004 and told then that I most likely would never be able to conceive. The thought KILLED me but my husband and I dealt with it and went on with life. I had my first anxiety attack that year and for months it felt like I was literally going to die. Over the years I developed hypothyroidism, sleep apnea, heart palputations (which actually ended when I stopped drinking coffee), an undiagnosed "abdominal pain" which eventually sent me to the Mayo Clinic just to be told that weight loss could improve my symptoms. During an ultrasound, they discovered I had a fatty liver, so we added that to my list of ailments to boot. Hip pain, knee pain, back pain, pain pain.... at 37, years of abusing my body had taken a toll and I was D.O.N.E. Not to mention that my new gynecologist put me on birth control because, guess what...it turns out I CAN still get pregnant! I was mortified at the idea of trying to carry a child safely at this weight. My best friend is large and went through two pregnancies, both resulting in pre-mature births and complications to both mother and child. No way was I going to put myself or unborn child at such a risk. It took me seeing pictures of us during our May 2013 Smoky Mountain vacation for me to see just how big I had become. I remember walking into our bathroom, taking a deep breath and stepping on our scale. It maxed out. MAXED OUT! I was 356 pounds and miserable. My husband has loved and supported me throughout this entire journey. I started my physician followed WLS plan in October 2013 and was sleeved just this week, Monday, 4/21/14. (That's another post all together.) I know this was the right decision for us and hope to add one more to our little family, the last straw. -
Battling regret.... I know it will pass after my body heals!
