Any May 20th surgeries out there?
Dani_elle86 replied to teemarie1078's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wow! Everyone is doing fantastic! Keep up the good work! I was sleeved May 20th and am down 70lbs to 220. I Cannot freakin wait to be in onederland! (Maybe by thanksgiving?!) I eat 5-6 times a day-Greek yogurt with pistachios and low fat cheese sticks are my staples as are eggs and chicken. In the beginning I was super crazy about weighing myself and everything that went into my mouth. I still watch everything I eat, but it's not running my life like it was. I bought a treadmill and work out 4 times a week jogging/walking 2 miles each time. I also throw in some arm excerscises to combat excess skin. I feel fantastic and haven't been this size since high school! Keep it up everyone and enjoy your successes! -
Where are all my May Sleevers?
Dani_elle86 replied to sandirufophoto's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved May 20th and am down 55lbs. I've been at a stalling point for about 3 weeks. I just keep eating my protein and working out. I even bought a treadmill It can be defeating at times-like I thought maybe the weight would come off faster and easier-but this is marathon not a race. I'm down to a size 16 (4 sizes!!) and love how much more energy I have. I struggle getting in all my fluids daily as well, but I'm trying my best as am sure all of you are! Great job everyone and congrats on all of your successes ( scale and non scale)!! -
Where are all my May Sleevers?
Dani_elle86 replied to sandirufophoto's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved May 20th and I'm down 30lbs. Is that normal? I feel like this is moving rather slowwwwww. Like every pound is resisting. I know it's terrible to compare to others, but it's hard when others have lost 45-50lbs from the same week as me. I'm power walking about 4-5 times a week and eating about 800 calories a day. I'm struggling with being creative at meal time. There's only so much meat and cheese a girl can eat!! I avoid carbs/sugars unless it's some occasional fruit. Any advice/recipes? What do you guys eat when you want something sweet? Last night I had 1/4 banana cut up with some PB2 and that was delicious!! Glad everyone is doing relatively well besides the occasional struggle...we're on our way -
Am I doing anything wrong?
Dani_elle86 replied to asamannj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find myself saying the same thing all the time "I've only lost 25 lbs in 6 weeks". Then I stop and think-in what other world are you going to lost 25lbs in 6 weeks?!?! I mean it's incredible, and so is your weight loss. I made the mistake of weighing myself daily and comparing it to everyone else who had surgery the same week as me. We all have different bodies, different doctors, and different plans. I stalled my 2nd or 3rd week and was crying and upset asking myself 'What did I do?' Everyone else was losing weight and I wasn't. It's defeating. Finally I told my boyfriend to hide my scale and stopped focusing on the number. Instead I noticed my pants were a bit looser, and my tops fit a whole lot better. Just keep doing what you're doing and it will pay off! I measure all my meals (because I tend to eat too much too quickly) and I've found that 1/4c or 2 oz is pretty perfect for me to feel full and not have discomfort. My friends keep asking me how I'm doing and I keep saying I'm losing but every. single. pound. feels like its resisting...like my body doesn't want to let it go! Even though I feel like that I'm still winning! Any loss is a loss and it's more than I could have ever done on my own! You're doing great! Keep it up! -

Wow you've all lost so much! Makes me feel like I'm the slacker of the group :/ I FINALLY got my energy back last week. Haven't had too many complications. Everything I've tried to eat I've been able to keep down. Had a doctor apt today and they said I'm on track. I have another apt in 6 weeks and they told me I need to be eating 1200 calories by then (yikes!) so we'll see. The most I can get in at one time is about 2oz and I'm def still on my Protein shake-8oz a day! HW: 292 SW: 278 CW: 253 Congratulations everyone and keep it up! -
Feeling Like im doing something wrong
Dani_elle86 replied to xojessny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in the same boat sister! I was sleeved May 20th. I'm consuming all my protein and my Water and my Vitamins. I've been walking almost everyday (some days in just so tired) and the scale creeps. It's so reluctant! How did I stay at one weight (grant it it was unhealthy) eating 1700 calories a day and now I'm eating 500 and it's barely moving?! I sometimes feel so defeated like I'm doing something wrong and my body is just telling me I'm gonna be fat my whole life. I've skimmed through a lot of posts on here and we're not the only ones. It's defeating reading that people who had the sleeve the same week we did are down 20-30lbs. I completely understand. What I'm starting to see is that weight either falls off of you or it takes it's sweet ol' time. We've got to remember that we didn't gain it all in a couple weeks and any weight loss is a win! Hang in there and know that you're not alone. It's a journey and the plans we have WILL work...eventually lol. -
May 19-23 Sleevers, Roll Call!
Dani_elle86 replied to ChavaBling's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in the EXACT same boat! I'm down 14lbs and a little depressed about being a slow loser. I know I didn't gain it all in 3 weeks, but it's defeating reading the post that say 'lost 25lbs in my first week!!' I'm also hungry on and off throughout the day. I also have been eating more normal foods like scrambled egg whites and purred chicken salad (made with non fat Greek yogurt and curry powder yummmm). Maybe that's the problem? I'm still drinking my protein and eating yogurt for lunch but I'm trying to have a variety of things for my 'dinner'. I'm just gonna keep plugging away. -
My surgery was May 20th and I'm in the same boat. I feel so defeated and I'm beginning to question why I did this. I lost 12 pounds the first week and that's been it. In fact the scale said I gained 2 pounds. It's hard to grasp that before surgery I was eating 1500+ calories a day and maintaining my weight, but now I'm eating 500 calories a day and gaining. My friends/family keep asking how much weight I've lost ( trying to be supportive) and it just makes me feel worse-like I'm failing I keep track of everything I'm putting into my mouth. Everything is lowfat/no fat and sugar free. I'm getting 60 grams of Protein in me and my Water and my Vitamins...where am I going wrong? I know we're all feeling like this...I'm just ready for this phase to be over.

May 19-23 Sleevers, Roll Call!
Dani_elle86 replied to ChavaBling's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Whew! I thought it was only me! I was sleeved on May 20th. I weighs 276 on my day of surgery and have been at 266 since Thursday (almost a week). I know, I know-I need to hide that damn scale and stop weighing myself. I just keep thinking...4 oz Protein drink for Breakfast, another 4 oz for snack, 4 oz of nonfat Greek yogurt for lunch, and 4 oz of a 'tuna melt' without the bread for dinner....how am I not losing?! I used to eat over 2000 calories a day and was stable. I know everyone goes through this, it just feels defeating. I also had a hernia repair. For the first 10 days I had a lot of pain right in the center of my chest...this has died down thank god. I can usually get 3-4 tiny bites in and then it starts to hurt. I'm sure I'm eating too fast, but gosh does that hurt! So then I stop, because it's so uncomfortable. This might also be weird but right next to my belly button, right below my one incision I have a lot of pain-like a pulled muscle. It hurts most when I have jeans on because my jeans sit there. It even hurts when I bend down sometimes. It's not constant, but it's annoying. I'm getting about 50 oz of Water and 50 oz of protein a day. I'm working on it lol. Best of luck to everyone! -
This weekend I'll be making a trip to visit with friends I haven't seen in a while and I'll have the opportunity to go to Trader Joes. I know that's not a big deal for some of you lucky folks, but my closest one is an hour away . Hence this being a big deal lol. While pursuing around here and other sites I remember seeing some 'must-haves' from TJs but I didn't write any of them down. I know they carry alot of unique and healthier items...so what should I get? Anyone have any must haves? Or reccomendations/ideas? Favorite items they only sell there?

Philly sleevers?
Dani_elle86 replied to sleeved215's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A little north of Philly-near Allentown. Had mine done 5/20 at Lehigh Valley Hosptial. Doing great so far it's nice to 'meet' all of you! -
I would start cutting back as soon as possible. I only drank 2 cups a day and had migraines from withdrawl when I first started weaning myself off of it. I thought 'it's only 2 cups-let's do this cold turkey!'. Nope. You're already gonna feel like crap after surgery-the last thing you want is to add to it. I started out cutting my coffee in half and then cut it ounce by ounce. Then I switched to tea...now I'm used to not having it. Best of luck on your surgery!

I also had a hernia repair, but they didn't mention any kind of discomfort after surgery. It makes sense though. Thanks! -

Surprisingly Supportive
Dani_elle86 replied to Derouin4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your surgery! That is awesome that he's being so supportive! Perhaps he had some time to think things over while you were in the hospital and realized how important this was to you. My boyfriend was very skeptic and not the best either before my surgery...now he's using my food scale and making sure I'm getting all my Protein . Hopefully this version of our guys sticks around! -
2 Days post op - stomach cramping
Dani_elle86 replied to Sissy02's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Two days post op I woke up in the middle of the night and was miserable. I didn't know what was wrong I just had pain and gurgling. I couldn't sleep-I woke everyone up. I just started crying and asking if I should have done this to my body. Definitely a low, low point for me. I'm 9 days out now and haven't experienced it since. It gets a little better each day. Just hang in there! -

Dani_elle86 replied to teemarie1078's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey guys! Had my post op apt tonight...lost 12lbs! They cleared me to advance and take my vitamins. I asked about that pain I'm having when I'm eating...they said it's either because I'm taking too much in or I'm not giving it enough time between bites. So I tried soup when I got home and still had it I literally just put enough in to coat my mouth. How big of sips/bites are you taking? How long do you wait in between each bite? Anyone else have lots of little burps or hiccups? I feel retarded like I can't feed myself properly lol -

Dani_elle86 replied to teemarie1078's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm a week out...I've had cream of wheat with stevia, protein, and cinnamon, vanilla Greek yogurt, a tiny bit of the inside of a deviled egg on Memorial Day, sugar free pudding, and a nibble of cheese that my dad just smoked. It was still warm and gooey so it was pretty much pudding consistency. All without any trouble -

I'm also having a hard time getting in my fluids. I also have a little pain-it's actually kind of sharp. It doesn't last long, I'm not sure what's causing it though. Mine usually happens when I'm trying to eat something. It kinda feels like a gas bubble, but I don't know. Maybe I'm taking too big of bites? Or too close together? After a second or two it goes away. My post op apt is Thursday, I plan on asking then. -
Hello! Im looking for some advice, or maybe something to look forward to. I'm 5 days post op and just started full liquids. I still don't feel hungry and have been doing really well-haven't needed pain or nausea medicine for a few days now. I know I'm still a long way off from eating whole foods, but I was wondering when everyone started incorporating fruits and veggies into their diets? My parents have a huge garden full of beautiful vegetables like broccoli, string beans, tomatoes, and beets. Plus, I live in Amish country so soon all the fresh fruits will be in. That's one of the best parts of summer-all the fresh and affordable produce. I'm wondering if it's a matter of what my new stomach can handle (perhaps puréed fruits and veggies?) or if I should wait until a certain stage? Thanks in advance!

I tried some tomato soup with non flavored protein mixed in and my stomach loved that. By loved that I mean it stopped gurgling lol. Actually felt like something was in there. Tomorrow I'm gonna try some other strained soups and try to get protein in. I've been handling skim milk well, so I may be able to try some plain yogurt-we'll see how dairy goes. Cross your fingers! Tonight my parents had a cook out-juicy burgers and hotdogs on the grill. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong my head hunger was in full swing, but the smell was delicious and it made my mouth water...but I wasn't actually hungry for it. I ate soup and protein instead lol. Good luck on your next phase and your recovery! -

I'm so glad to hear everyone is on the road to recovery! I also have no drains, catheter, or stitches. I had to go to my family doctor today because my blood pressure has been alarmingly high since the day after surgery. I'm usually 126/70 and it's been 164/104 for the past couple of days. My surgeon couldn't pin point if it was maybe drug interactions, or my body adjusting. All in all I just have to monitor it for a couple more days. Hopefully it levels out. I had a really rough night home the first night but last night I slept like a baby and felt great today. I find that I need a 2 hour nap in the afternoon, but whenI wake up I feel like my battery has been recharged lol. I started incorporating my protein shake but it's hard... I feel like I'm just consuming, consuming, consuming. Like my entire purpose in life is to be constantly putting something in my mouth. I have a LOT of gas today, but it's moving so not a whole lot of pain, just awkward noises and gurgling. How is everyone else doing? -

Dani_elle86 replied to teemarie1078's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did so well in the hospital only to come home and have a horrible night last night. I was up every 1-2 hours just walking, letting Water hit me in the shower, and sitting up right. I made the mistake of thinking I only needed the anti nausea medicine if I was consuming something. At 4 am I woke up with terrible pain. I'm struggling with determining what is gas pain, what is is pain from my incision ( I have one incision that is sooooo sore), and if it's my stomach that wants something or is just nauseous. I was a wreck not knowing what to do. I'm trying to stay a head if the nausea medicine. I've been eating pops and Powerade. I have no problem staying hydrated. I tried to incorporate some Protein in my broth-I think I had too much because I spit some back up. Along with some bile. That was no fun. This is rough. Who ever said we took the easy way out....hah! This sure as hell ain't easy. I hope everyone is having a good recovery. -

Dani_elle86 replied to teemarie1078's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery was at noon yesterday. Woke up in quite a bit of pain. Two of my incisions that are close to eachother were really burning. Felt a little like he cut me in half lol. Once I was out of recovery I was pretty drugged up and don't remember much. I sat up though last night and could use the bathroom on my own. I've barely used the morphine pump. The nursing staff keeps calling me their ray of sunshine bc apparently a lot of people don't do this well. I had the test done to test for a leak and...NO LEAK (thank god). Hopefully starting fluids soon bc my stomach is kind of gurgling, but no hunger. Overall the worst part is the soreness but it's not unbearable. Hope everyone is doing well! Best of luck on all your recoveries! -
New to forum, considering the sleeve
Dani_elle86 replied to Sbagdan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Sbagdan- I was always one of those who was never going to have surgery because to me it seemed so drastic. I found out that there was a free information night given by one of the surgeons and told myself 'this doesn't mean I'm getting it, but I should inform myself of all my options'. I went and was quite taken back by the presentation and statistics. Still, I wasn't convinced though. So I did more research on my one. I took it literally one step at a time and always kept in my mind that if I didn't want surgery, then I could back out at any time. Somewhere along the line I began to feel empowered-like for the first time I was taking control of my health and then I knew it was the right decision. Surgery isn't for everyone, but you'll never know if you don't start some where. Luckily you've come to the right sport where there is a ton of info from people all over the world-at every stage. The funny thing is, I have not come across one person on here yet that has said 'boy I wish I never had that surgery done'. Best of luck to you-no matter what you decide.
