Did I have surgery and become a negative person or is it just hormones?
KarenF1972 replied to jenlovestim's topic in The Gals' Room
I'd just like to say - not only have you had surgery which can have a huge effect on your emotions - but it sounds like you've had a lot of other major life changes going on as well! Take it easy, try to relax and have some time for yourself. Any if those things you listed can cause a lot of stress on their own, but particularly after surgery! -
Feel sick all the time
KarenF1972 replied to cjd2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt like that also right after surgery. I felt OK if I was sitting, but as soon as I got up, my heart would start to race and I just felt week. I was having a hard time drinking plain Water. I had a little bit of diluted apple juice but then I also started drinking some gatorade. That helped a lot! -
When I woke up from surgery I HURT!!! I had them get me an abdominal binder. I didn't use it in the hospital but it did help me at night when I was trying to sleep in bed at home. It will get better!!

I am 8 months out tomorrow and I was just wondering what all of you are doing regarding coffee. I didn't drink any for the longest time, but the last couple months I started up again. Full caffeine, one a day (sometimes 2 depending on the day!) I usually have a nonfat, sugar free latte to cut the calories, but then I'm still getting some Protein with it. What have you all been told about drinking coffee after surgery?? Thanks!

I was mainly concerned with the caffeine and the impact on the stomach, etc. My surgeon said no caffeine at all because it is hard on the lining of your stomach and can cause ulcers. But if I'm not drinking alcohol or eating sugar, I need one vice, right?? Since I haven't worried about my sleeve lately, I thought I'd be concerned about the caffeine damaging it somehow!

Sharp stabbing pain periodically on left side
KarenF1972 replied to rustyw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my sleeve 10/16/15 and still get some left side pain from time to time. It freaked me out when it first started. I'll be fine and then all of a sudden get it. It's more of an ache right below my rib cage. I messaged my doctor and they said as long as everything else was normal not to worry about it. -
Hey everyone - I had surgery in October 2014. I was just wondering what foods any of you were told NOT to eat. How about popcorn?? Thanks!!

Incision pain. Abdominal pain
KarenF1972 replied to Penny C's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery 10/14/14 and had some abdominal discomfort for a couple months. I would have to shift and move around to get comfortable. When I started exercising again, it increased. They told me not to worry that I was still healing. It's pretty much gone now but there are still times if I push in I can feel tenderness/discomfort probably from where there is scar tissue. -
I am 4 months out and losing by the handful each day. It is making me nuts. Pantene is supposed to be a shampoo that isn't the greatest for your hair in general. One of the ingredients, though I can't remember what. I went to Ulta and bought some Nioxin, as well as cutting my hair shorter. I have some days with minimal loss and others that are just scary!!! Good thing I started out with a ton of hair......

OMG! Just saw a coworker I haven't seen since coming back to work. She said "hey skinny! Welcome back! What did you do - go to a fat farm?" It's just making me laugh now (because I know she has no filter) - but who says that?????? -
Truly don't know what to do
KarenF1972 replied to Jennifer Rogers's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you are using the GENEPRO - they have a small scoop in the bag. One scoop is 30 grams of protein. I would start with that. I think if some things have more protein, they are harder to get down. I had to force myself to drink my Protein shakes. It's not a matter of "this tastes great", right now it's a matter of - I've got to get this down. -
You should be able to go to the web site and find the requirements in the plan brochure.....

October 2014 sleevers check in please!
KarenF1972 replied to Jen - a work in progress's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have the capsules so I have to break them open and sprinkle the nasty little omeprazole "seeds" into something and eat them. Yogurt, Protein shake or pudding typically work best because then I'm not chewing the medicine. YUCK! -

Nothing really symptomatic all the time. Was started on Prolisec in March cuz they thought it may be increasing asthma symtoms. I'm on Prilosec AM and PM since surgery so haven't had symtoms (that I've recognized anyways)! -

Hello my little October sleevers! How is everyone doing this gloomy, freezing day? My day is strange. Slept in this morning for starters. When I was laying in bed I started having some discomfort in my tummy - upper abdomen below chest. When I moved it would go away. After I got up, I was still having it a little bit. Now it's gone away for the most part but I have some shoulder pressure and a little discomfort in my back. (Some also at my lower ribs, but I had that from time to time before surgery - I think it's the way I'm sitting because moving around helps it go away.) Not sure if it's a result of being more gassy today, not having a BM for a few days (TMI!!) despite having some ground turkey/hamburger the last few nights for dinner or hitting the treadmill a little harder last night. Ugh! Eating and drinking fine though, so..... Keep on plugging on I guess. What are you all eating for meals these days? -
9 months post surgery in Michigan

I'm in Ypsilanti -
My understanding is that they will cover if you have issues due to the remaining skin, ie rashes, irritation, etc. (I'm in Michigan too. Yay!)

How long after surgery was everyone cleared to start doing ab workouts? Surgery was 10/14 and I was cleared to start jogging and lifting weights, starting at 10 pounds and increasing as I tolerated as long as it wasn't painful. Thanks! Karen

Abdominal work outs
KarenF1972 replied to KarenF1972's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah I had a 2 week check up and don't go in again until 3 months. I did an upper body work out last night but forgot how much core work they do. I did VERY small movements for the core stuff. My incisions are really well healed and a couple of them you can hardly even see any more. I'll try to gradually do a little more of them! -
I am 2 weeks out (surgery 10/14). At my 2 week appt, the NUT said we can add in starches - mashed potatoes, pureed veggies, refried Beans, eggs, etc. In my program, we weren't given a specific amount like - lunch 1/4 cup of refried beans. We are supposed to be at 700-900 calories, 80-100 Protein and 64 ounces of Fluid. When I first started with yogurt and Soup, etc, a very small amount would "fill me up". I read that most people weren't able to eat a whole scrambled egg when they first tried one. I had my first one for dinner tonight at like 6 and had no difficulty (slowly) eating the whole thing. Later at around 830 I had some greek yogurt to help get my meds down. Again, I ate it slowly, but had no difficulty with the whole container of yogurt. No discomfort, etc. Is this normal not to have difficulty with these things at this point? Thanks!
