  1. Hi Samcl1, Yes doing ok thanks, 6 months out and 4.5 stone lost so far. Still have hunger, which is unusal for bypass, but had it since day 1 of surgery. Have dumped a few times on small amounts of fat and carbs, but other than that feeling so much better and no regrets :-)

    I never feel full...

Hello it is my first time posting here. I am 9 weeks out bypass and thought I was alone in how it has gone for me. To had hunger (stomach) from about day 3 of this surgery, that grew worse than what it had pre surgery! The pureed stage (4 weeks) was very difficult and I ended up doing mash potato with low fat cheese, milk and salad cream just to fill fuller. Thankfully now I am on ordinary eating, but I can eat a tea plate size without any problem, along with able to eat most things, bread, Pasta, rice all meats etc. I do work hard at having high Protein meals and low carbs and find that more filling. Lost about 2.5 stone now. Gill
  3. Hi I'm new here but your post struck a cord with me. I started my journey in 2011 and really didn't want surgery it terrified me! I had 2 major surgeries in my life, hysterectomy and gall bladder removal and got myself in such a state I woke with fibromyalgia due to the stress. To cut a long story short I was only a stone or 2 over weight and diabetic, then hit menopause and piled weight on! By 2012 had to go on insulin. 2013 saw my having a pre op assessment for bypass but was still sitting on fence. Today I'm 5 days post op, nearly lost my first stone and so far so good but early days. Do lots of research, get a good surgeon in hospital with good aftercare. But one thing to bare in mind ....... You will read awful stuff as well as good stuff, but if you think how many thousands are having this surgery nowadays then realise many of them don't bother with writing on bariatric forums they are far to busy having a wonderful life and living again.

    Gallbladder matter

Had my gall bladder out by lap, easiest op I've ever had and I'm terrified of surgery. Was up,dressed and walking round the hosp grounds next day, then went home. Gill
  5. Hi, I'm knew here but could relate to your post. I have not had surgery yet, still waiting for a date here in UK. But totally terrified of hospitals and surgery! My son had a horrific accident many years ago when he was 10 years old (he is now 31) and I spent months in hospital with him as he underwent one procedure after another, it took its toll on both of us but thankfully he survived. I have chosen bypass because I'm diabetic and have fibromyalgia. It will help diabetes get under better control but won't cure the fibro in fact I've been told that it will probably make that worse to begin with so except a lot of pain after surgery due to the fibro, this hasn't helped my nerves! I'm going to see a hypnotherapist at end of September to get some help with this fear. The dying part is a normal fear after all we are choosing this surgery to better our lives not end it! But it depends on any other health issues you have and your surgeon, have you asked him/her what percentage of patients have had complications or death with them? All surgery comes with a risk and many surgeries have a much higher risk than the bypass. No surgeon wants to have patient death rates, it doesn't bode well for their career, so if you were a big risk they wouldn't be doing it until you had lost some weight first, maybe inserting a ballon to help you. It's the complications that concern me, I'm already anaemic and they can't fund out why, this will get worse after surgery. The diabetes is known as the "silent killer" but the fibromyalgia affects my quality of life much more and I live with daily pain, to add to that with further complications would finish me off anyway - It's important to focus on why you are doing or wanting this and try to stay positive, I know that's hard but if you can be positive about it, you almost always get a positive outcome. Take care x
