June 2014 Sleevers Check In!
Hoginona04 replied to SnohoGal98296's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Exactly 7 days post-op for me. Have not had any issues, and feeling great. Down 17 lbs from the morning of my surgery. Sipped for the first two days, and still had the pain / burps, now it doesn't phase me. Kinda getting tired of water and Mio falvored water, but this is the path I choose. Cooked the family a massive pan of lasagna the other day, when I say massive, I used over 5 1/2 pounds of cheese for that bad boy. Never sampled a bite, not even a quick lick of the spoon from the sauce. Feeling good, been doing everything I would normally do, except lifting anything heavy. Now looking forward to the Phase 2 part of the liquid diet. Never thought I would be happy to have some cream of chicken soup. -

Travel? Where in the USA would you take your dream vacation? Why?
Hoginona04 replied to Kitt3000's topic in The Lounge
I've been lucky enough to have traveled across the US, but I have to say my (new) home state is one of my favorites. Louisiana has a mixture of all the other states stired up into one. Our food is second to none, and anything and everything is celebrated with food and drink. Hunting and fishing are excellent. New Orleans has so much culture and history, you may never want to leave. Michigan is also quite beautiful. Spend a day or two in Frankenmuth then travel north to the UP. Plenty of camping, trails, & fishing to be done. -
90 Day Supervised Diet - Can You Lose Too Much?
Hoginona04 replied to mnmlst's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was instructed to not go below the 40 BMI, because my insurance wouldn't cover it if I did. So during my 6 month supervised diet, I had to control my loss. I'm sure every insurnace company is different, but that is what was suggested / told to me by my NUT.. -
Damamn and Kafjhi usually. Mainly I'm offshore, Damamn is where we fly into and Kafjhi is the port we leave out of.

How about a part time Middle East worker. Oil field worker here, that spends half the year in the east and half back home in the US. Currently in Saudi trying to get to that oil, but have spent many months in Sharja, Dubai, & Abu Daubi.

Can you live off just Protein Shakes & Vitamins?
Hoginona04 replied to Hoginona04's topic in The Guys’ Room
I appreciate the replies. I will return to work about 3 weeks after my surgery. So I will serve my first rotation during the liquid part of my diet. I already have Protein powder and chewable Vitamins at work. Speaking the the dietician about this, she seems to think it will be fine, and help me to lose weight faster during the golden stages of weight loss surgery. I also ordered me a food steamer to bring back to work. So I shouldn't have any issue with snatching some frozen chicken breasts or fish filets and cooking them myself. My biggest worry was having an issue (leak) because of something I ate while back at work. I do not want to go to a Saudi hospital if at all possible. Now that I know that Protein shakes and vitamins will sustain me, It looks like i will be on a self imposed liquid diet for the first eight weeks. Not a big issue, I am mentally prepared for it, and looking forward to shedding the pounds and getting healthy. -
Dr Fernando Garcia - my experience
Hoginona04 replied to BackToHot's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Thanks for sharing. My insurance is covering my surgery here in the states. But I can honestly say, one more hoop, and I was headed to Mexico myself. That being said, I have yet to recieve my surgery date, although the insurance has approved me. So Mexico may still be in the cards. -
Today is my first Anniversary for my Gastric Sleeve
Hoginona04 replied to H-1971's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Great job. Would you mind sharing your pre and post ops stats. -
Not gonna do it. I was drinking 12-24 cans a day. Decided to quit 2 weeks prior to my first NUT appointment. First thing she said was to get off soda. Its been 6 months now, and I dont want to have that monkey on my back ever again.

Who starts pre-op diet this week?
Hoginona04 replied to MiraNJ's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Started mine today. The weird part is, my doctor did not require a pre op liquid diet other than just clear liquids 24 hrs prior to the surgery. After reading these forums, I decided I would just do it anyways. I had gained 4 lbs on my last required weigh-in. But the nut was ok with that, and my insurance approved me. -
Food after surgery
Hoginona04 replied to losingsoon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I keep reading where 'your taste changes after surgery', well I hope that is true. I am scheduled for surgery on the 4th of June, and nervous about eating again. My issue is, I absolutly hate yogurt, cottage cheese, and cold cheese of any type. And I would rather go hungry than eat chicken. So my mush phase of the post op is going to be rough. On a good note, I love the Protein shakes. I have 5 different flavors from 3 different brands, and enjoy each and every one of them. Hopefully canned tuna and Protein Shakes will tide me over until I can get to the Beef / Fish / Seafood part of the plan. -
How Long Btwn Submitting to Insurance and Surgery Date?
Hoginona04 replied to mnmlst's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
12 days for approval from my insurance company. And 3 weeks for my surgery date, only because I am out of the country and wont be home until then. It could of happened much quicker. -
I took some classes online. I have a wierd situation. I work out of the country for a month, then home for a month. (oil field) So my Doctor has been very accommodating with my situation. The Dietician I worked with discussed all the pre and post- op cans and cant's, so I feel comfortable with that. But I was expecting a pre-surgery diet, and it wasn't reccommended. Go figure? I have never dieted in my life, (other than the 6 months insurance requirement) but I have fasted many times. Usually 14-28 days of strict Water fast. So doing a liquid diet will not be an issue.

June 2014 Sleevers Check In!
Hoginona04 replied to SnohoGal98296's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I get back to the states on May 31st and have surgery scheduled for June 4th. Starting to get a tad nervous, but glad to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. -
Finally got my approval from the insurance. Spoke with my cordinator and she said they will schedule me for the 3rd or 4th of June to help me out with my work schedule. I guess I'm starting to get the gitters. Been thinking about this for years, and jumping through hoops for the past 7 months. I was not told anything about a pre-surgery liquid diet. But I am going to go ahead and go with a Protein shake for Breakfast and liquids / Water the rest of the day, just in case.

I have UHC Choice Plus and had to do the 6mos of dieting, 5 yrs of medical history, Psyc eval. That being said, I jumped through their hoops, and the paperwork was submitted on May 1st. Approval Letter came on May 12th. Finally! Time to schedule the surgery.

I know hindsight is 20/20. And I'm late to the game chiming in here. But I would of reccommended taking a loan out against your 401K. I had to do this once, interest rate was 3.5% and was paid back to myself. The only real cost was the admin fee and the loss of gains I could of had if I hadn't taken out any money. Glad you was able to work out something, and get the ball rolling.

I started this journey back in November. Paperwork was subimitted to UHC on May 1st and I received approval yesterday May 12th. My case worker at the Bariatric Center has been awesome, and helped me out every step of the way.

Can you live off just Protein Shakes & Vitamins?
Hoginona04 replied to Hoginona04's topic in The Guys’ Room
Thanks for the replys, it was just a hypothetical question. I plan on following the surgeons guidlines to a 'T' if possible. I know there will be some issues since I can not stomach yogurt or Peanut Butter. I guess like most pre-op newbies, I want to get the best results as soon a possible with this new weight loss tool. Another reason I asked is because I work in the Middle East on a rotational schedule. 5 weeks on 5 weeks off. So my food choices are very limited as far as the post surgery diet. I am able to bring Protein powder with me, but food items are a big no no. Veggies and the like are plentiful here, but meat is very limited uless you can stomach mutton. ( NOT gonna happen, smells and taste like furry boot leather) The beef is poor quality, and something I would not feed my dog if I had it at home. We only get canned tuna packed in oil, and the fish selection is very limited and only served on certain days. Our cooks are all from India, so everything is slathered in oil and fried on the stove top with enough seasonings to broil your spincter after each meal. We do have eggs and boiled eggs provided daily, that is one option. Mabye that will clear up some of the questions as to why I asked about the protein. About 3 weeks after my surgery, I will go back to work, and I am just trying to figure out what my options are. Do I want to live off protien shakes, no. But I also do not want any compilcations post-op. And i really dont want to go to a hospital over here because of a post surgery issue. And if that means drinking shakes and eating Vitamins for 5 weeks, well so be it, I guess. -
What do you consider your ideal pants size ?
Hoginona04 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in The Guys’ Room
I'm currently waiting on insurance approval. But my goal would be 34-36. Currently sporting 44's. -
now for the waiting....
Hoginona04 replied to daw3378's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My paperwork was submitted to UHC on the 1st of May. So I am in the same boat as you. Please keep us updated on the process. -
how long did you wait 2 ride your motorcycles fellas
Hoginona04 replied to sugarbear34's topic in The Guys’ Room
I'm pre-op, and wondering why you are waiting so long? Can anyone be more specific? Not something I have talked to my doctor about, but I have rode my bike to his office and brought the brain bucket in with me. So he has to know I ride, hell I have probably wore a Harely shirt to every visit. Just wondering why you are waiting. I hope to ride mine the next day or so.
