    APRIL 21st Sleevers!

The first few days after surgery, I was recovering at my parents place and mom made lasagna. Even though I wasn't hungry or really craving it, I has visions of diving face first into that platter and swimming around in it lmao

    APRIL 21st Sleevers!

Hey all the April 21st sleevers! How is everyone hanging in there!? We are about 10 days post-op and I'm curious how everyone progressing. How are we all feeling? What are we eating? Anyone working out yet? I've been feeling good. Still dealing with incision pain but am definitely happy to see most of my gas pain gone!! That was horrendous!! I subsist on cottage cheese, Protein shakes, Water, diet Snapple and broth. I keep telling myself I'll get creative and make protein pudding or eat the Popsicles in the freezer but then I forget lol I actually have started working out! I've been walking the dog everyday, 5-6 times a day and then started the elliptical yesterday. As long as I focus on controlling and keeping my upper body still, I don't exacerbate my incision pain and feel great! The emotional head game is never ending. Though I'm not hungry, I find myself wishing to dive, face first, into my mom'a lasagna. Mind you, a fourth cup of cottage cheese takes a whole to get down but this head hunger is wicked. I didn't have a scale here at my parents, where I'm recovering, and finally broke down and bought one. I was super happy at the results!! I was worried, despite feeling the changes in my body - my head really plays tricks on me!! I'm now at 254!! I was 267 the day of surgery and my highest weight was 301, back in August 2013, when I started this journey! I started the pre-op liquid diet at 282. In total, I'm down 47 pounds from my highest weight and 28 pounds since my pre-op started on 4/8 (3 weeks, 1 week-ish post-op) How is everyone else doing? Everyone hanging in there ok? Hope you're all doing well!!!
  3. Hey all!! I'm a newly sleeved Marylander (NY transplant). I was sleeved in Baltimore by Dr. Katherine Lamond on Monday, April 21st. I live in Annapolis and work in College Park and would love to find people in any of those areas for support/work out buddies/recipe swaps (for when I actually get to eat!). Surgery went well, gas is almost completely gone - thank goodness!! I'm dealing with some incision pain still but it's not too terrible. I've been walking a lot, even got on an elliptical briefly at the gym! I'm feeling great and losing weight, seeing differences in my body and am just generally excited about this journey (though also probably as anxious as well lol)

    Memorial Day Challenge

Ohhh a challenge!! Highest weight - 301 (August 2013) Monday, April 7 - 282 Monday, April 14 - 275 Monday, April 21 (surgery day) - 267 Monday, April 28 - 255 Memorial Day goal - 245 *fingers crossed* ( I really don't know if I'm being conservative or ambitious but we shall see! Honestly, has long as it's going down, I'll be a happy gal!) Good luck everyone!!
  5. Hey there! I'm an 9 days post-op (surgery on Monday, April 21st). I was just curious to get an idea of what people have been eating and drinking for the first 2-3 weeks post-op. My diet consists of: Water broth Diet Snapple Cottage cheese with unflavored Protein powder Pure Protein shakes I'm finding it a little difficult to get all my fluids and protein in for the day and yet at the same time trying to manage my silly head hunger!! I'm guess in just looking for other ideas and options to see how everyone else is doing. Also - anyone working out yet? I wasn't given a specific time as to when I could get back to the gym. I was told to walk 10 min every hour and to work my way up to 45 min of good aerobic workout, at least 4 times a week. Also, get a pedometer to measure and get in 10,000 steps a day (to include those from during my aerobic workout). I actually went to the gym yesterday and worked out in the elliptical for 35 minutes. It didn't exacerbate my incision pain, which was nice. And I felt pretty great afterwards. What types if thing are you doing?
  6. Hey there. It's Thursday night and I'm coming up on my fourth night being sleeved. My surgery was Monday morning. It's crazy how much you go through and prepare and understand everything "in theory" but in actuality it is so much more mind blowing than you realize. At least for me. I had a rough first night. It was my first experience with pain medication and I was reacting very poorly to it. There were moments of severe doubt and fear that I had gone ahead and done something terrible. But once I left the hospital, was able to shower at home and sleep in my own bed for a night, I felt exponentially better. And every day since has been better and better. I know it's only week one - there is still intense gas pain here and there and random incision pain as well. But I'm walking, I'm drinking, I'm working on getting my Protein and Vitamins in. I didn't realize I was surrounded by such supportive friends and family. People have been so open, honest and encouraging. It's been truly eye-opening and wonderful to experience. I don't know what the next few weeks will bring but I'm trying this positivism on for size and working towards a new life, a new me... Or rather an evolution of me Thanks!! Good luck to all who have been, are or will be on this journey!
  7. I haven't had this (only 9 days out from surgery) but I was told this is common. My surgeon starts us on Actigall two weeks after surgery, for 6 months to try and avoid fall bladder complications. Sorry you're dealing with this! Good luck!

    Down 31 lbs! Surgery 4/21/14

I gave in and went and purchased a scale for my parents house!! And I'm down 20lbs from my last weigh in at the doctor on 4/16!!! Yay! I'm so excited! I noticed the differences in my body, certainly, but having the numbers confirm it makes me so happy! ????????????

    Down 31 lbs! Surgery 4/21/14

How awesome!! I had surgery on 4/21 too but I haven't gone on scale yet. I'm recovering at my parents place and they don't have one. I was also told that for a little while after surgery, you actually gain weight from swelling and Fluid retention so I've been avoiding it haha if I can make it to my 3-week check up without jumping on a scale, I'm hoping for a fabulous outcome!!! *fingers crossed* Congrats and keep up the fabulous work!!!

How to get rid of gas

I had the same thing for the first three days and all I could do was put a heating pad on it and walk as much as I could to release the gas. I'm post-op day 5 now and my shoulder pain is gone. Hope that helps some! Good luck!
